US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

So currently have the following on hold for 2 pax for travel Jun/Jul:

SYD-BKK TG F 747
BKK-LHR TG F A340
FRA-BKK TG F A340
BKK-SYD TG F/J 747

Unfortunately only showing 1 F seat in the return BKK-SYD leg and second passenger (me :-() is in J.

If I ticket the first award (they are booked seperately), does anyone know what the chances of Thai releasing another seat in F would be? Currently I can see 7 seats for sale (went down from the 8 that was showing before I put the first ticket on hold)...

just keep an eye on it. I would think it is a pretty good chance. I've seen F2A2O2 before just prior to departure (meaning the flight only had 2 F seats and the airline was willing to give those over to awards).

the availability of the award seats is NOT dependent on ticketing. It could open up even while the one ticket is on hold.

There will be a USD150 change fee however.

Thanks!

I may wait a bit and call up later tonight/tomorrow to see if its opened up. The BKK-LHR legs has been booked into I class for me as well (even though there is currently at least 2 F seats available, so thats 2 legs in J. Will have to get that corrected!

I would try and avoid the A340 flights if the 747 flight is available and the timings suit. If you prefer day flights maybe take the A340 in one direction and the 747 in the other (BKK<>LHR).

Nothing available on the 747s (only Y). Need to be there for a wedding so locked into specific days. While not as nice as new F on 747/A380, still better than J... Though was tossing up with EVA and possibly go J (but 3F/1J won over 4J)...

The Mrs and I had a Y ticket from BKK to NRT as no J or F was available at the time. The rest of our flights were all in F. About 3 or so weeks before the trip I saw F open up and although it took 2 or 3 calls they got us in F for that flight and no change fee was applied. I believe the rule is that if you've already reedemed for F you don't need to pay the change fee but YMMV.

Just saw this posted elsewhere...note the horrible new timing of TG472 SYD-BKK...and the fact it will misconnect with all the night time departures to Europe...LHR, FRA, CDG etc.

The change may be limited to certain dates and not an across the board thing but check your bookings carefully!

Yup...and also note that the F lounge is closed 1-5AM.

Someone at the Novotel may have influenced the decision? ;)

Fond memories of killing 5hrs in the Thai F check-in area waiting for the checkin/lounge to reopen in 2012. Everyone should do it! ;)

The one in Row A when you enter the International terminal? I hope they had those massive air con's running and hope you had an unlimited supply of cold towels and water ;)

That's the one. We had done ICN-BKK and were to fly out in the morning to SYD. Didn't have boarding pass for next flights so just asked what we could do consdiering it was only 5 hours (I think) I distinctly remember it being really cold! I slept for a couple of hours while the other half watched movies. Fun to look back on it!

P.S Anyone notice not much J MEL-BKK availability even 4 months out? Or is just me?

Yeah I'm not surprised you were cold. The Mrs and I have slept on the level in between arrivals and departures waiting for a BKK -HKT in PG to open up. I can assure you that the memories are vivid but they were not fond. PG domestic lounge seemed like heaven after 4 hours of that.

It does...but if you search on the TG website for that date...and multiple others I checked you get the 2045 departure time.

i suspect with the 0300 arrival they will have a special lounge arrangement similar to what they had in effect a couple years ago to cater for one of the AU flights that arrived at something like 4am?

It was a combined first and business class facility.

while it can be a case of YMMV - it is more the norm rather than the exception that a change of class - even where the higher miles have been paid (but a member accepted a lower class at the time of booking), will attract the change fee.

Fair point MEL - Been lucky with 2 changes with no change fee and one change with a fee (but that was going from an all J ticket to two flights in F). Just about to lock in what I assume will be our last redemption on USDM - Update shortly.

Ok so just booked the following for travel to North America in Aug/Sept. Bit tough this one as NA avail was virtually non existent (due to the holidays I'm assuming) but still pretty happy with them:

1st ticket
MEL - BKK - TG J
BKK - PEK - CA J - 10 hour layover
PEK - YVR - AC J
YVR - YYC - AC Y - (destination)

YYC - NRT - AC J
NRT - BKK - TG Y (stopover)
BKK - MEL TG J

Points were 110K and taxes including the booking fee were $234.39

2nd ticket
MEL - BKK - TG J
BKK - TPE - BR J
TPE - YVR - BR J
YVR - YYC - AC J (destination)

YYC - NRT - AC J
NRT - BKK - TG Y (stopover)
BKK - MEL - TG J

Points were 110K and taxes including booking fee were $219.54

The reason for the 2 separate tickets is that the Mrs and I need to fly out separately but are on the same flights on the way back home.

Phone call took about 40 mins but relatively painless. Total number of points left in my USDM account.....17 :)
