US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

I think my Oct GUM trip may have bitten the dust. :(

My initial sector is MEL-PVG, and PVG is the longest stop on the trip, was 71 hours. Now it seems the flight is not operating on Friday, the day I planned to depart and we've been moved to Saturday. Zero award space showing at all that week. I'd consider going Thursday and get the visa, but I'd guess US negotiating with CA is incredibly unlikely. Plus I now have to draw attention to the ticket and it's PVG stopover at 30k!

Given that PVG was the 'real' destination I'm not sure that 47 hours will cut it...and the trip, which I'm struggling to get buy in for from my OH will likely be vetoed now!

So I emailed CA in Melbourne...they seemed agreeable to moving to the previous day rather than day after the original flight...unfortunately they said WL it and they will clear it. Hmmm, I know they don't do waitlist...but what are my chances??

You need to get CA to put the segment in the booking first. Then you can get US to revalidate the ticket and remove the other segment. US won't add or WL the segment but the operating carrier can if they are willing. I have done this with TG many times with regard to schedule changes.

Yes that's exactly what I asked them to do. I'll write back and say US don't offer wait listing for awards and see what they say.

A question regarding an upcoming itinerary.
Booked a redemption in F with only one leg in F which was BKK-HKG on TG600 on a 747-400 to experience first class for the first time and selected seats 2E/F.

Now when I look on my TG page, the plane has changed to a 777 which does not have a Royal First Class and we are now in seats 12A/B.

Just wondering how this will affect our first class experience at Bangkok airport? Does anyone know if we will still be able to get the free massage before our flight?

A bit disappointed to be missing out on the only first class leg, but still quite happy to be enjoying business on all the other legs.

you will ill qualify for a 30 minute massage as a business class passenger.

if the flight has been downgraded, and the whole ticket is now in business class, you might want to get a refund of miles.

Thanks for that - yay for still getting a free massage :)
And missing out on the buggy is not such a big thing.

Am a little bit wary of calling up and asking for a change or refund as it is a GUM itinerary. Can a ticket be reneged once ticketed?
I don't think there is anything untoward with my ticket - just want to be careful.

Quite dramatic TG changes for SYD here I think from 26 Oct! I have an F booking on TG472 at Xmas time...well I guess that's buggered! Fortunately I was going to canx it anyway and already have a backup plan. 773 = no F class obviously.

THAI NW14 Sydney Operation Changes as of 24JUN14 | Airline Route

THAI has updated its Bangkok – Sydney schedule for Northern Winter 2014/15 season, which sees 3 weekly TG471/472 service operated by Boeing 777-300, starting 26OCT14, instead of Boeing 747-400 aircraft.
TG471 BKK0815 – 2135SYD 773 246
TG475 BKK1820 – 0740+1SYD 744 D

TG476 SYD1000 – 1525BKK 744 D
TG472 SYD1705 – 2235BKK 773 357

It's the classic TG time machine!

I'm also on 476 so rushed to check mine as well but all still good. I did ask Thai about the schedule changes a while back and received this response:

Thai Airways said:
TG476 has not been affected, and it is unlikely that it will be affected.

Make what you will of that.

YMMV

The infamous TG aircraft changes... Too bad for the loosing the F cabin bcworld. What's your backup plan?
I have some F bookings in Aug/Sep which look safe ATM but who knows what will happen between now and then...

the TG morning flight seems to be pretty immune from too many schedule or equipment changes.

I commented before USDM left star that forward bookings should try and stay with 'safe' flights to try and avoid schedule changes and cancellations.

When TG announced the ridiculous schedule change for TG472 for the summer season, the one they later reversed after everyone had been inconvenienced with rebooking, I thought, this booking is very risky. So I booked EY J from MEL-AUH-LHR using Velocity points. To be honest I've been thinking for a while I'll probably pick this over TG F anyway, what with the limo at both ends, superior service onboard etc. I've also been waiting for TG to do something like this, so I never did book a positioning flight to SYD. I should add my booking is with LifeMiles, not DM, and a oneway, so I'm hoping for free cancellation but at worst 50USD. So no great drama for me.

I did exactly the same thing! Had a heartstopping moment while checking! My F flight is 3 days after the schedule change!

I have an extremely complex F GUM itinerary in Oct but took this advice and left plenty of room for schedule changes so haven't been affected.

Mine is Ok as these changes come in after my flts in Set-Oct. smit, your flight is 'after' the schedule change and you're ok?

Well they just did...on the first call! I couldn't convince CA to do it.

Just waiting for CA to come to the party now as promised...

So closing this one out...I hope!

Miraculously US waitlisted the segment. I assumed it had cleared as at first I saw the 2 segments on my US itin, the one Air China originally moved me to, and the second the one US WL'ed. Then only the WL'ed one was shown. Online with US you don't see 'Confirmed' or 'Waitlisted'...only 'Active'. So after the duplicate segment disappeared, I called up to try and get the ticket reissued...the 'Accept Changes' button was not shown online.

At that point they told me they couldn't ticket...they didn't give a clear reason why but in reality I think simply the waitlist hadn't cleared yet. Instead they told me 'Air China is no longer a partner'...um, yes it is! I was told they had a supervisor there and let's try and rebook the whole thing on OneWorld...bearing in mind this is a GUM trip I said...NO, LEAVE IT ALONE!

I tried calling the Air China Aus 1-800 number...they were hopeless, sorry there are no seats on the 9th or the 11th...tough! So I called back a number from Melbourne that I had a missed call from an earlier day. The guy who I spoke to was super helpful. He explained he'd been checking on it regularly, that the waitlist hadn't cleared as the relevant person in Beijing wasn't in the office but he was going to follow up and let me know. I got an email later that day saying they'd cleared the waitlist.

Sure enough, when I logged onto my booking on usairways.com the 'Accept Changes' button was now shown. Against my better judgement, and sick of speaking to US agents, I decided to click the button. The spinning US flags appeared, but never went away, I left it for several minutes. I opened up my reservation in another tab and all looked well, no longer a message that the itin changed, however I was immediately suspicious that the ticket numbers had not changed. Checking the ticket on the Travelsky system today I could see that the ticket details were not passed to Air China. I tried to call US a few times today and each time waited on hold for about 30 minutes before giving up. Finally on the drive home from work I called again and got through quickly. Explained the situation to a super nervous sounding agent who really appeared to have no clue what she was doing...she kept saying there were no seats to give me, even though I knew they were 'HK' - waitlist confirmed but not ticketed. What followed was quite bizarre, I think she got the manual out and essentially keyed lots of stuff in manually, as she did it she whispered every keystroke out loud...it was very odd! It sounded to me like she was doing some kind of long sell type thing. Eventually she told me new tickets were issued. Finally, plugging those new ticket numbers I can pull up the flight details in Travelsky!

I really can't speak highly enough of the CA service on the Melbourne email address.

So it looks like the GUM trip is definitely a go...no more schedule changes please!
