Plenty of JL F availability at Christmas so I booked:

SYD-NRT (stopover)
NRT-CGK (dest)
CGK-NRT
NRT-SYD

All in F and I don't have to decide between beach and snow. Not bad for 120k miles and $194 taxes.

That is a brilliant itinerary. I like the simplicity of it.

I've always found it so strange that the one place JL operate F to in Asia is CGK! No wonder there's always availability!

I guess other than MPM it doesn't breach any rules? Your flying to a 1W hub on their carrier.

If JL decide to extend the SYD F service, then CGK in F could become the 'new GUM' (albeit significantly more expensive?)

big market for F travel into and out of Indonesia. SQ regularly flies full F cabins ex SIN... a very short flight and very expensive. I suspect GA reintroduced F to try and capture some of the market.

aside from MPM it breaches the 'stopover must be in direct' route rule.

Excellent well done :).

Be looking for similar in J / F from OZ via NRT or HKG to CDG Sept/Oct next.

From what I understand only one stopover or more than 24 hours is allowed?.

What is F on JAL like?

Only one stopover or open jaw permitted for the entire itinerary (not each way).

We want to go from OZ to CDG, stopover in HKG on return for a few days.

What happens if on way over there is no connecting flight HKG to CDG?

if there is no connecting flight within 24 hrs (after which it will be considered a stopover rather than transit), you need to find alternative flights to bring you within the rules.

OK thanks.

What is the maximum milage allowance?

What is the maximum milage allowance?

Depends on the origin and destination and cannot be calculated, only looked up. No free tool exists to look up MPM.

I'm assuming you're going from Cairns. MPM is pretty generous 12,090 - M25 is 15,112.

So even if you can't get the direct from HKG-CDG going through LHR, FRA, HEL or similar would easily be within MPM. You could even go CNS-HKG-DOH-CDG using QR and stay within MPM.

Thanks for that, yes many options if going out of CNS or HKG, even another OZ city be OK.

A few months back found many award flights out of HKG using AS miles via DXB to VIE.

Just waiting for the 330 days out to book both outbound and return.

Friend of mine ticketed SYD-xSIN-LHR,LHR-xHKG-SYD starring BA F on all legs excpet HKG-SYD with QF J. Paying 75,000 miles and $950 taxes.

This is the same friend who booked a similar first class trip to Europe for 70,000 total miles for two passengers, the same time last year.

I am surprised by her luck!!!!!!!

Just booked my first US Award flight. Was pretty easy (about 20 minutes all up), though I called a couple of times earlier today and couldn't get through.

Booked 2 x return J Award from PER-SYD-NOU all on QF for August next year. Not bad for about $900 (approx $700 for the miles and $200 for taxes booking fees) each.

The agent was struggling to find the airports so I ended up just giver her the airport codes and flight numbers (searched using the AA site).

First booking for me done this evening. Took 20 minutes and the CSO was polite, helpful and fast. Used Skype to ring the US number. Not a complex route (compared to some I have read) Booked 11/8/15 MEL - HKG on CX, 12/8/15 HKG - SFO, returning 1/9/15 LAX - BNE, 3/9/15 BNE on QF - MEL in J. She charged me US$187 and 90,000 miles. I double checked the miles by asking her to confirm it was booked in business which she confirmed. So now I have 20,000 miles left that I will have to do something with! Very happy and it was easier than I expected.

I can confirm $187 is about right - we were charged the same a month ago for almost the same routing.

The computer seems to have some problems with pricing - we were originally quoted 280,000 miles each, then 120 each (for F). This was confirmed when I logged in to our accounts immediately after - but by the next day it had been corrected.

Wll be chasing down the QF booking ref just to make sure I haven't been booked into Y for the LAX-BNE leg. Presume ringing 131313 and giving ticket number will solve this?

did you manage to get QF F up to HKG or J to HKG then F on CX to USA?

business to Hong Kong. QF F was sold out (not unexpected a week before departure). I honestly don't know if I would have taken the QF F, pretty close call given both a transfer via SYD and much longer transit time in HKG - an extra 8.5 hours of travel time over CX (3 hours to do the SYD connection and 7.5 hours transit in HKG vs 2 hours on CX)
