Haven't booked anything using USDM for a while now and feel like I've been missing out!

Have been using Lifemiles due to short notice travel to South-China and never seem to get space on QF/CX into HKG.

To add another data point to our growing list, it seems mpm/rules are still not that much of an issue if you get lucky.

I recently put on hold BNE-SYD-HKG (dest)-ICN (48hr)-NRT (stop)-SYD-BNE

90000 points and $270 tax inc quick ticket fee. 2 days before departure.

Was going to ticket straight away, but last minute work came up :(

MPM wise your itinerary is actually under! ICN is farther away from BNE than NRT, so ICN would be classified as your destination. MPM BNE-ICN is 7205 miles. Your journey to ICN is under MPM, as is the return.

The only oddity is the allowed second stopover (you have one in each HKG and NRT). Which is usually something they are very strict on!

yes MEL-Traveller, you are entirely correct, ICN is further and as such would become my destination. It was just that I was feeding the agent segments for a HKG/NRT trip and had no intention of going to ICN at all but was forced to due to the CX seats from HKG-NRT disappearing whilst on the phone to USDM. As such, I had to think of a way to get to NRT on the spot and ICN seemed easy enough (plus I wanted to eat some bibimbap :)). She didn't notice the "slight" glitch in the itinerary and it even made it through rates desk too.

So is it ticketed yet or not?

Putting something on hold and having it ticketed can be two very different things.

It was not ticketed due to work forcing me to postpone the trip. I guess the most important hurdle was the rates desk and that came back fine so it would have been ticketed if I went ahead there and then with that particular agent. Of course, if I called back and got another agent, that would be a whole new story.

Set a record with Nicole from the US Call Centre today - Hong Kong to Japan flights booked and ticketed within 18 minutes of calling up! Luckily the availability mirrored what I had found on the QF website:

CX HKG to KIX 2 pax in Business April 2015 (first class not available on this routing for our preferred flight date)
CX HND to HKG 2 pax in First May 2015 :p

Total mileage was 35K per pax - very happy they split the mileage requirement for mixed J/F :D
Fees per passenger were USD$40.44 tax + USD$50.00 award ticketing fee.

Very excited about this one - it's such a brilliant redemption rate for premium cabins on CX, and looking forward to trying the new CX Haneda F Lounge.

It's taken a while for me to do my first OW booking but just booked 2 pax for next year:

MEL-HKG-EWR CX J
LAX-HKG-MEL CX J long daytime layover in Hong Kong

110k miles + $122.13 pp.

Agent was really good...call time 17 minutes.

Ticket immediately and manageable on CX.com

My KVS recently expired...but all flights I booked showed available on both JL and QF so I was hopeful! Might not renew KVS for a while so no more MPM requests! ;)

I too am really missing award travellr I don't know what happened to them . I have a brought kvs tool but have no idea how to use it.

Ticketed for my mum & step dad this week with CX in J 27/07 - two happy 70 yr olds who haven't traveled together overseas before

CNS - HKG // HKG - MAN (had to overnite more then a 24 hrs so is a stopover)
MAN - HKG - CNS

taxes - $365 + $50 each.

booking was not without hiccups & some could've been avoided if I had my brain into gear :(

1st agent booked under 1 pnr and said would split later no prob ( * maybe I should've asked them to do that in the beginning ?)
2nd agent, can't split no way, you have to share your miles to the first account, HUACA
4th agent says can't do but I'll check then says no prob
Next prob, won't go to rates there's a problem with itinerary, 3rd agent had changed date for me for prior itinerary CNS-HKG-ZRH//MAN-HKG-CNS but didn't tell me there would be an overnite in HKG that was longer then 24 hrs so it was a stopover : (next lesson, I should've and normally get them to repeat it back to me)
Must change itinerary or give up, Find inbound CNS-HKG-MAN with the same 'stopover' PROBLEMS SOLVED & ticketed immediately ! phew... !

Successfully got 2 x SYD-HKG-BOM(dest)-HKG(stop)-MEL-SYD in April. All in J, with CX except the MEL-SYD leg with QF obviously. Wasn't very flexible with dates b/c it's for a wedding, so I can't believe my luck to get almost the exact itinerary I wanted.

On hold for 72 hours using USDM today 2 x pax in J, BNE/HKG overnighter, HKG/CDG destination, MIL/HKG, no return HKG/OZ yet, I can see awards for date wanted on various airline sites inc. Award Nexus but they can't.

you could be seeing phantom availability on other sites (BA and QF have that problem). Check each day to see if anything new comes up.

What does JL show?

just checked, nix, how many do I need to look up, really this is ridiculous, think I'll buy a Q Y seat BNE/HKG/BNE and try for upgrade lottery.

Was USDM able to see anything at all? To SYD/MEL/CNS/PER/ADL?

Not that I am giving this as an endorsement - but how about Malaysia Airlines via KUL? If MH has availability you could secure those and possibly pay $150 to change at a later date if something opens up.

Yes, operator knew her business, looked up every flight to the cities above, didn't try MH viaKl but would be another in transit stop. Going to look up new dates for whole trip, see what happens.
