Well first I don't think many Australians got Hydroxychloroquine because Trump said it was good.probably beause QLD doctors have gone public.
Been on the news up here every night of the week.
Second there are literally a hundred trials going on using hydroxychloroquine which suggest quite a few experts believe it is likely to be successfulPlus small studies have already suggested a benefit in treatment.Sure they are small trials and not conclusive at all but certainly a pointer to further studies.
And from the CDC-
"A study in China reported that chloroquine treatment of COVID-19 patients had clinical and virologic benefit versus a comparison group, and chloroquine was added as a recommended antiviral for treatment of COVID-19 in China [6]. Based upon limited in-vitro and anecdotal data, chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine are currently recommended for treatment of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in several countries."
"Due to higher in-vitro activity against SARS-CoV-2 and its wider availability in the United States compared with chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine has been administered to hospitalized COVID-19 patients on an uncontrolled basis in multiple countries, including in the United States. "
There is a large study based in the USA to collate experiences with the use of hydroxychloroquine in treatment AND prevention.
Then there is a letter to Pres.Trump from the AAPS including this-
"We thank you for helping to make the long-established anti-malarial drugs chloroquine and
hydroxychloroquine available for treating COVID-19. In our opinion, a “compassionate-use exception” is
not needed because these drugs are already approved for another use. It would be needed for a not-
yet-approved drug such as resdemivir."
Third the fellow that died was because he drank fish tank cleaner which contains chloroquine not hydroxychloroquine.funny I can find no reference for Pres.Trump saying drink fish tank cleaner
And it's use for Covid-19 treatment is because stocks in Australia have virtually disappeared meaning patients that really need plaquenil for their autoimmune disease can't get it.
And finally I don't know where you get your 42% from.In the USA Pres.trump's approval rating is now over 50%.
