He has a 19,000 person rally this weekend. I suppose he will be closely observed.

... like any President, at any time 🙂 . I think there is a media thing where someone has a lens on the P at all times when the P is in public?

I'm reminded of the West Wing plot where President Bartlett developed Multiple Sclerosis, initially with occasional weakened arm movements. It was concealed until he lost power in his legs and it became sorta obvious and then there was a scandal. He went on to win re-election.

Can we start a West Wing thread. One of the greatest tv shows ever.

The original comment was perhaps about calling people “vermin“.

Sorry but the KKK was set up by Democrats and basically for most of it's history continued to have a majority of democrats as Klansman.
Remember the first Republican president was Abe Lincoln.

But I was replying to the white hoods comment.Never seen a rat or mouse with a white hood. ;)

Yep my post was offensive enough for you to respond to it huh? But you conveniently ignored the bigoted unintelligent comment about the 'vermin soiling the streets' - amazing!

I thought the OP was just "suggesting" a line of "reason" that might be used by the potus in election mode, rather than expressing a personal view.
The potus has , in the past , used very divisive concepts and language with some success , especially using social media.
One assumes that the a very hard line law and order election campaign may now be under consideration.
The silent majority who are now facing increasing theft and crime would , one assumes, be likely to find such a commitment attractive.
To that end the protests may have , quite fortuitously, gifted extreme right wing politics and election winning tool.

The other potential area for exploitation is the cultural censorship. If you start removing comedies and start rewriting history to suit the narrative of the day, what's the difference between that and the censorship that the CCP uses to promote its agenda in China? It's a very fine line.

Whatever the case, the DSA presidential election later this year is going to get really really ugly.

One would’ve expected POTUS to declare yet another war but apparently is supporting some updates to the police. Minneapolis did try quite a lot of training and the force did a number of courses to get over themselves spending quite a lot of money but it hasn’t stopped them executing people.
I agree, I fully expect to get very ugly but will be very pleasantly surprised if not.

In discussing with colleagues in the US, most seem to see two very different groups - protestors and the rioters/looters, with sympathy for the former and none for the latter. Most that I've spoken to would seem to support a crackdown on the latter, but not the former. So any action would have to be careful in choosing the right target. Although the people I spoke were all in proximity to cities where the protests and rioting/looting took place. If the actions were far away, it probably makes no difference whether rioting or protesting - all the same.

Not much difference between the editorial policies of the New York Times and those of the CCP's Official Organs, after the NYT sacked/forced resignation of the opinion editor who (gasp!!) allowed publication of a Republican Senator's opinion piece supporting his President (Oh, the horror! The horror!). NYT staff apparently were 'frightened' and 'felt threatened' by its publication, so the opinion editor had to go. Like the CCP, NYT it seems won't allow publication - even opinion - of anything not in line with its own ideology. Getting closer to 'our' ABC's position every day.

Indeed, but you can always count on some vendetta-driven posters to take everything as a personal attack and then hurl egregious abuse that, if received by them, would prompt the loudest whining imaginable.

I wasn't talking about news media and I wasn't talking about Trump (IMHO with Trump never a more apt statement than you reap what you sow). In news media there are outlets that favour one sides of politics to the other. There is plenty of pro-Trump media out there too. Opinion pieces are opinion pieces, as long as they aren't masquerading as something else.

I was talking about censorship of comedy and other cultural pieces. People can live with NYT not allowing publication of certain viewpoints etc, and I doubt that would change a single vote. But when entertainment is censored to support particular narratives that is another thing altogether, and if taken too far, could well send a range of liberal-leaning people occupying the centre of the political spectrum towards Trump and therefore backfire rather spectacularly (if the end goal is to reduce racism!)

New York Times and the CCP - not much difference? Not much hype there then.

It is true that the NYT does not support inter alia a Republican senator’s suggestion that sending in the troops is a good idea, and probably not legal. Other staff did not support the view either. Perhaps those towing other media baron's views and the fanboys could learn something about integrity.
The reactionary coterie plays their broken record to agree with exaggeration, distortion, hype and ensuing obfuscation, and not to forget calling people vermin.

Ignoring the obvious hyperbole around the CCP, I’m not sure exactly what your issue is here. Isn’t a private company entitled to lean whichever way they want politically? There are plenty of publications that do not allow liberal opinions. Nothing wrong with that, it’s their choice.
