Bernie Sanders leaps to New Hampshire primary favouritism (Oz on-line, probably paywalled):

Bernie Sanders has had a last-minute surge of support to cement his favouritism in the critical New Hampshire Democratic primary as voters cast their ballots, while former vice-president Joe Biden continues to slide in the polls.

The candidates crisscrossed New Hampshire for a final frantic day of campaigning ahead of Wednesday’s primary that is likely to confirm the democratic socialist Senator Sanders and the 38-year-old former mayor Pete Buttigieg as the frontrunners for the Democrat nomination to challenge President Donald Trump in November. Both candidates were virtual equal winners in last week’s Iowa caucuses.

The New Hampshire primary also threatens to derail the campaign of the former frontrunner Mr Biden, whose polls have continued to slide since his disappointing fourth rating in last week’s Iowa caucus.

Mr Biden left New Hampshire early, failing to show up for his own results party, a sign of how badly he expects to do in the crucial primary. Instead, he headed to South Carolina, the fourth state to hold a vote at the end of the month. He desperately needs a win there to revive his campaign after finishing fourth in the Iowa caucus.

An early call, PB won't get the nomination but whoever gets it will invite him to be VP. Tgat guy can pull in a lot of centrist voters.

Still going to lose to Trump.

I honestly don't know how EW thinks anyone will take her seriously after pretending to be Indian her entire life.

Such elegance, such grace, admirable:

Mike Bloomberg

@MikeBloomberg
.@realDonaldTrump - we know many of the same people in NY. Behind your back they laugh at you & call you a carnival barking clown. They know you inherited a fortune & squandered it with stupid deals and incompetence.

I have the record & the resources to defeat you. And I will.
Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump
Mini Mike is a 5’4” mass of dead energy who does not want to be on the debate stage with these professional politicians. No boxes please. He hates Crazy Bernie and will, with enough money, possibly stop him. Bernie’s people will go nuts!

Yes, apparently there’s more than one. And integrity seems to be very hard to find these days in governments. Best to blame the public servants and send them on integrity training, but not to do it themselves. Genius.

From such a very stable genius

No, you've got it all wrong The public servants have integrity but no influence. The politicians way is to act with integrity,is to let their advisors do all the dirty work (by setting expectations, but never giving them specific instructions) and that way you have plausible denial. 🤪

Except DT, where you shift the needle and establish a brand where integrity is not expected, and indeed would cause great shock if you did act with integrity. That way you can put your foibles out into the open, admit to them and sing them from the hilltop, everyone (that counts) cheers, and you move on to your next one fingered salute to half the population. Brilliant. The man is quite brilliant (in that respect).

Apparently, the people of New Hampshire are very keen to show their support for DJT

Apparently people of New Hampshire are very keen to show their support for DJT ..... given it's a one horse race, it's quite a result.

Scary if you are of the Democrat persuasion. They are going to have to find a way to get people out to vote in November.

Early days, but for any Dem runner, staffer, supporter - you'd be devastated to see these type of numbers / records come up.

Voter turn out numbers are always interesting due to the voluntary nature of their system. As a comparison the top ten Democrat contenders in New Hampshire got 290,800 votes in total - while Trump was the only Replublican contender. But as we've seen in the past, supporters of a losing candidate don't automatically switch to the selected candidate - as we saw in the previous election when Bernie's supporters weren't enamoured with Hillary

US presidential race: Mike Bloomberg ‘considering’ Hillary Clinton (Probably paywalled)

Amid reports that Mike Bloomberg could team up with Hillary Clinton by making her his running mate — powerful Clinton ally Capricia Marshall is joining the former New York City mayor’s presidential campaign.

After the news broke on Saturday that internal polling found that a Bloomberg-Clinton ticket “would be a formidable force” to try to take down President Trump, Mr Bloomberg tweeted, “I would not be where I am today without the talented women around me. I’ve depended on their leadership, their advice and their contributions.”

Democrats debate:

Warren: "I'd like to talk about who we're running against — a billionaire who calls women fat broads and horse-faced lesbians. And no, I'm not talking about Donald Trump. I'm talking about Michael Bloomberg."

Ouch!

Can we see where his feral supporters get their stuff from?

Sanders ahead in Nevada.

From the BBC:

Bernie Sanders has cemented his status as the Democratic front-runner to take on Donald Trump in November's US presidential election.

He is projected to win Nevada's caucuses, and early results suggest he is on course for a large victory.

There is a long way to go, however, until a nominee is confirmed.

Early results also suggest former vice-president Joe Biden has performed better in Nevada than in the other two states which have voted so far.

Interesting in that story is that the BBC describes Elizabeth Warren as a 'moderate'.

With 3.9% of the ballots counted in Nevada, Mr Sanders, the left-wing senator for Vermont, has 54% of the vote, ahead of Mr Biden on 18%. The field is then split between a number of other moderates, including Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg, who trail further behind.

I know Sanders is out there, but does that make Warren a 'moderate?

Will be interesting what affect COVID-19 has on the election. Still 8 months to go, but 8 months is an awful long time in politics. But if COVID does take hold in US, and the economy suffers, an economic downturn always makes it more difficult for the incumbent (even with an excuse like COVID). But also if creates health care challenges, depending on how it pans out could really hurt or really boost Bernie, given that universal health care is front and centre of his platform.

Meantime I've heard some conservative commentators suggesting republicans need to start taking Bernie seriously (in fact Carson Tucker, said none are, except Trump). In essence (although not literally) they seem to be saying he's a nutcase, but look what happened when we put our nutcase forward ....
