Unfortunately, the LAX-//-FLL run increased in price from around AUD650 to AUD1000 about a week ago.

Hi serfty, do you know the rationales behind such sudden price hike? Increase in demand? Income recovery? To many status runs ;)?

Thanks Voyages & Serfty, everyone else too.
So, hmmm, hows this one sound, LAX-DFW-FLL-DFW-BOS-MTJ via ORD?

Or, maybe another way?
Any suggestions?

Thanks Fellers!
Got it sorted,

Lax-Dfw-Fll return 420 SC

Fll-Ord-Bos return 360 SC

Lax-Sfo return 120 SC.

900 SC's.

Hang in there, it may drop back more.

What I am missing (especially for my AirNZ status) is the AUD350 LAX/SFO rt for 120 SP/SC ...

Do you mind letting us know what the total cost was?

Not a worry,
The LAX-DFW-FLL (Los Angeles-Dallas Fort Worth-Fort Lauderdale) return first class ticket bought on the "Instant Upgrade" price was AUD $761 including taxes.
420 SC's

The FLL-ORD-BOS ( FLL- Chicago-Boston)return first class ticket bought on the "Instant Upgrade" price was AUD $1051 including taxes.
360 SC's

The LAX-Las Vegas return first class ticket bought on the "Instant Upgrade" price was AUD$497 including taxes.
120 SC's

Sure, I could have done the LAX-FLL run twice, I wanted to go to Fall River near Boston though and I would have still been 80 SC's short.

I had a rush of blood to the head and threw in the quickest return flight I could find to get an extra 120 SC's, LAX-LAS is quicker and a little cheaper than LAX-SFO.

So, I know Serfty's probably doing a face palm right now, but for what I spent to get 900 SC's. it's O.K.
Not great, but O.K.

Not at all. :D

If you wish to go somewhere and you can maximise your SC earn relatively cheaply in doing so that's a bonus.

Enjoy you trip.

I sure will thanks, I vaguely remembered a famous post of yours where you worked out a route that gave 1000 + SC's for around $1000?

C.R.A.F.T, and couldn't find it again.

More like 1200 SC's for $3K in total ... those fares are long gone.

I'm looking at doing something very similar!

Question for everyone though, do AA sometimes deploy their retrofitted 757's on the domestic runs (e.g. LAX-DFW)??

I noticed they don't indicate the subtype operating the route, clearly if it books into First it is one of the old config 757s at the time of booking, but what if they sub in a J equipped 757 - does that mean you get 'downgraded' to J and get the corresponding SC - or do they just keep your ticket bucket type and seat you in business.....?

No domestically if you are in P, A or F paid fares then you will get First Class status credits. I mention "paid" as it is possible to get into First (A) by other means (eg an AA Frequent Flyer Upgrade) however this isn't treated as First (A) even though your booking class is First (A).

Hi Tuppaware - I am struggling with this tool. I can access the website, select fares from Brisbane to say New York (around $6000), select dates, but then the pricing system seems to go crazy price wise including a $18,000 fare. Am I missing something here?

Tuppaware apologies for the cryptic message - for some reason AFF will not let me reply with quotes or links. Very frustrating for all involved. I meant to indicate tool I am talking about is the fare compare tool.

Ummm.... I may not have interpreted the problem correctly here... but I'm pretty sure Farecompare simply looks at published fares.... NOT availability.

Could that be the problem?

Can you replicate the lower pricing on ITA??

Could be the problem or just plain user error:oops: I couldn't get a website with ITA. Is it under another site name?
