VA 777 - best seats

I believe VA are now starting to enforce the 'Premium Only' option for pre-selection of Row 5. I have an upcoming flight to LAX in 5C, and touch wood, no one in 5A yet (mind you, there's only around 3-4 seats in J allocated entirely, and no one else in the rest of row 5).

If someone is in 5A and the curtain it off, I may ask if they can keep it open; not sure how i'd feel about a 14 odd hour flight in a small space with someone I don't know (I like to be in my own little world when flying so headphones on and what not).

I have had row 5, just me and my SO in the middle, curtained off both sides! Was a fantastic flight.

Flying to LAX shortly ex-Perth in J. Tossing up between DJ and NZ. NZ is 772 from Perth then 773 to LAX.

SQ sector length is too long. Did it once - 17.30 hours is painful.

I didn't want to start another thread, but mods feel free to do it if you think it's right.
What are the best Y+ seats on the VA 777?

I like the bulk head row 10. Others have said they don't feel there is as much room as other seats but I like the fact no one can recline into you....

I took row 11 because of fear of the 'bulkhead factor' on my trip - and regretted it. Row 11 was fine, but row 10 would have been better - even allowing for the provision of an ottoman in lieu of a fixed footrest.

I had row 10 Y+ and didn't mind it. IFE is from the seat arm so a bit narrower. Leg room is fine for sitting but I didn't like it for sleeping as I couldn't stretch out enough. I liked no recline into me but for sleeping I would move to a seat further back if there are some free.

As for J seats, Row 5 is nice, really nice. Had Row 1 also and liked it too but I prefer the seclusion of Row 5.

Thanks. I have done row 14 before and found the (slightly) limited recline a bit annoying. Was wondering about row 10 but at 6'1" I want to stretch my legs out. I am 12H going over and 13C coming back at the moment with nobody next to me (so far...still two months away).
In answer to the OP, I have been in row 4 before and it was great. I don't think there is truly a bad J seat.

Does row 10 have less legroom?

Dragging up an old thread!

I've allocated 1H/K but I see that seat guru says 1K has "bad" legroom. How bad is it? I'm not 6 foot but I do have long legs. Was in a bit of a rush when I booked and didn't get the chance to investigate seat options.

Row 10 has less legroom by up to 45cm (18") when compared to row 11 - I would avoid travelling there again in favour of any other row in the PE cabin (or Business :p).

Can't comment on 77W row 1 in business, but it is to be avoided if in PE on a Trans Tasman (ZK- registered) 737 - it has less than the 77W Row 10.

I've moved over to 1A/C. Looks better. Looking forward to trying J :D

A good move. 1H/K is next to the toilet and whilst this is usually not a problem in J the A/C side is better. I also prefer row 2 and back because of the galley.

sorry to bump an old thread but think I just screwed up and would love to know if I have or not before I call VA tomorrow.

I booked 1 adult and 1 child into J on VA 8 on 8 July - I was able to allocate seats and selected 5H and 5K - thinking great nobody else would like to put up with my 4yr old (he is a very very good traveller and not a pain at all).

Today I shifted my Dad from Y+ to J as I finally had enough points - did it through the call centre and she linked the booking and shifted us to 5DFG - which is great I hope......

1) do you still get the closed off curtains in 5DFG
2) just went to seatguru and this whole row is coming up as EXIT ROW - my son will be 5 on this flight home - have I screwed up and should I call VA to shift us to a non-exit row?????

thanks

Whilst it is near the door it is not an exit row and yes, those seats are curtained off. You will enjoy the experience

Seat guru is wrong! (I would not rely on it at all - far better to ask here ;) )

... And yes, you get the curtains. (There are three "enclosures "- 5AC, 5DFG & 5HK)

Miss QStatus has travelled in row 5. Its the most private and its her preference. (but often she must go Y or Y+ because he who pays the bills calls the shots).

Seatguru is wrong about Row 5. does not matter which seat in 5. its all good.

Its not going to affect you but if traveling solo in Row 5 then you may be sharing a curtained "private" area with a complete stranger.

So there are separate curtains that partition off 5AC, 5HK and 5DFG??? Now that would be very private indeed! :o
