VA 777 on SYD-MEL 01NOV11

DJ9502 is showing check in is 180 minutes before departure. This cannot be right, this must be when check in opens. There is no way 300 people for a flight leaving at 10:30 will be checked in by 7:30.

When I booked it was, and I did. But I will go to the counters anyway. One long cue to check in over 300 people.

Great thanks, I was just called by a Virgin rep explaining about the 777, will be ferried to the aircraft by bus. There will be no meals served, just juice, water and a snack.

You must be at the airport 90 mins prior to 10AM.

I'm on DJ9502 now as well. I just tried the web check-in, and was rejected.

I'll have to hope that the lounge angels in MEL can find me a nice seat up front.

Are AFFers meeting up in the lounge in SYD? Is there a particular meeting spot, secret handshake or other identification method used? (I've not been in the SYD Virgin lounge yet.)

Hey TimB, yes it will as Virgin has just sent out a new email (to me, at least) saying that it is extending its double status credits offer, on bookings from today until 13 November, for travel until 13 Jan 2012.....

This flight is unlikely to sell out anyway, so we will not be taking up stranted passengers, Qantas domestic will be back to normal from tomorrow morning.

If I was in Sydney/Melbourne, would have certainly done this.

Feel free to fly a 777 up to Queensland to clear the backlog two.

Edit: Am I the only one that noticed the little red triangle is around the other way for the 777 flight? Is that taking a shot at Qantas perhaps?

It was blank the first time I looked, and then a red star when I actually booked.

Do you ever get the feeling that VA are testing us to measure how much detail we notice on their website?

BTW, I'm currently sitting in the MEL VA lounge, waiting for DJ 805, which has been delayed until 6:40 due to air traffic delays in Sydney. They've very kindly seated me in 3A for the flight up, while they weren't able to check me in for the flight back.

So I bit the bullet and booked on DJ9502 - using points it was only 6650 + ~$49 for a PE reward, and I was preassigned 1A (J seating)... Have never actually been on a 777 before - should be interesting!

Got sucked in , having the day to myself, & also booked on DJ9502 . Will be doing a quick turnaround in Melb & return on DJ849 2pm service which I think is a new BSI aircraft . I will be the one in the purple checked shirt if any other AFF's want to say hi.
