VA Cancellations, Delays growing?

Aus Aviation has the full transcript from SRB:

“Even right now people are not booking Virgin Australia because they’re worried about what might happen,” Branson said in the footage obtained by the newspaper.

“I just would urge both sides just quietly sit down in a room, get it sorted, think about all your other employees.

“Managers have to manage for the long term to keep Virgin Australia going in five years, 10 years, 20 years.

“Unions have to try to get the headline numbers in the short term.

“If one section of Virgin Australia goes too far, that means every other section’s going to have to go too far, and very quickly the same thing that happened to Ansett could happen to Virgin Australia.”

Some potential weather challenges late next week along the QLD coast if Jasper hangs around. Unknown exact course however will cause disruption for a few days regardless.

Could be a challenging 8 weeks across the networks with all sorts of curve balls, Rex 737 seems to be facing the lesser of challenges.
REX has their own problems, the pilot 'exodus' and the blaming of QF 'stealing their pilots' as per their usual whinge due to said low wages at REX.

I didn't see any prediction of collapse in the article by Bain.

A mention of this can change quickly by Branson.

I'm sure there's many ppl on the 'real' poverty line that would be happy on ~$50k with a 15% pay rise on the table.
What 15% payrise are you taking about? The one where they had to raise it from minimum wage because it was mandated by the government? They haven't even made an offer to the unions for crew.

Nothing about mandated by the gov.

Offer has been made, if this offer not for crew?

I assume the 32% above award is only Cabin Managers who under the award would likely be paid a small portion more vs other crew, so it inflates the figure a bit. Most cans are laid 30-50% more vs the award.

Twinaislse, is this 5% a year over three years or 15% off the bat?

15% of 2020 rates doesn’t even quite account for CPI, so anything less, or delayed increases to subsequent years is a paycut. It really should be at least15% straight away and then 5% in subsequent years - and that would only maintain the original 2020 rates described as “emergency”.

Fairly sure they took a pay cut also in 2020?

Sign this or farewell someone I thought mentioned

A few months back the government raised the minimum wage. The company had to raise base wage as part of this due to they were paying minimum. They actually made it out like they were doing us a favour with it too.

No. I didn't receive the email. Their first "proposal" wasn't substantially enough to motivate anyone. We've been waiting for them to come back with an official offer so we can vote but so far it's been crickets.

Amazing we’ve got people in one breath whinging that they’re not getting 5 star service or missing their pre departure bubbles, however on the other hand seem to believe that they’ll receive that while advocating for staff to receive the absolute bare minimum pay.

Ohh, but if they don't like it they should just get another job though....

There has been no offer to crew and some of the numbers that my friend has shared showed single digit increases over the agreement. That amount will easily put them under the modern award by next year when it's increased.

And yes, as I posted before, a large majority of crew in Australia got a pay rise because of the increase in the modern award.

There was an offer, it was rejected by the union, hence back to the table this week / Wednesday.

15% over 3 years yes it's a single digit yearly increase.

Any increases in the media I would read with a grain of salt. I mean look at this ridiculous claim in a Sky New article. 60%!!! Rubbish. My mates are telling me for some crew, it is as low as 9% for the duration of the agreement.Screenshot 2023-12-12 at 2.06.54 pm.png

So we are to take any media reports as grain of salt.... instead take the word on an anonymous forum posting a friend of a friend told me this ? Really.

I dare say the AFR is a reasonable source of info/news.
It's no news.com

Comparing the offer against the award is a misconception. There are so many other variables in the deal, half the time it’s not the headline dollar figure that the teams are negotiating over, it’s the clauses, conditions, roster, and so forth.

I do find it laughable that they are also coming out claiming the long term viability is at risk. Private Equity gives a rats about the long term? Them plus all the management will be out once they get their payday. The employees care about the long term viability, that’s why they are fighting for a decent offer!
