VA Global Wallet

Hi Brissyflyer,

Thanks for pointing the HKD being shown as HK$150! Our card partner has just confirmed to us that the fee is actually HK$15! The new version of our PDS has been updated and our Website will be updated very shortly. Sorry to alarm you!
Enjoy HK! :)
I did a search and can't easily find an answer, when looking at the ATM fees for Global Wallet the Hong Kong fee is dramatically higher than anywhere else at HK$150 (A$20ish!!) whereas everywhere else seems to be around the $2-3 mark. Is this an error in the fee schedule as the website and PDS both say the same or is Hong Kong really high for some reason.

Looking at actually using this for an upcoming trip and seeing if the fees for cash are better than my CBA account.

Thanks!

Thank you for looking into this, much appreciated. It is looking like a better option than using my CBA keycard for cash withdrawals and while the Citi Plus account looks good I can access more ATMs with the Global wallet card and earning Velocity points is nice too.

Not sure how that can be the case. You can use whichever ATM you like with the Citi Plus card in HKG...fee free...it doesn't have to be a Citi ATM.

Sorry - I have tried to search around here and the web but just wanting to confirm with the VA global wallet - with the inactivity fee, is it like the Qantas Cash card in that if you have no balance, you won't be charged the fee after 12 months of inactivity? Thanks heaps

Thought that the inactivity fee has been removed for both VGW and QCC.
Sorry Edit: no hope (for VA anyway), its still there, $1 a month if no activity in 12 months.

Qantas Cash has removed the inactivity fee. Suffice to say I don't see why VA is not following up soon enough.

But in any case, if you had a zero balance on your Global Wallet, I'd say you'd get charged nothing is my guess. Would be rather riotous if they forced your balance to go into debit due to inactivity (and then of course charge you possible further fees for holding a debit balance).

Hmmm, they are using smart marketing :D. I recently (a week ago?) booked 2 return tickets to AKL for May 2014 (using my Amex Free Flight offer), so they sent me this email today:

Your upcoming trip to New Zealand could be your most rewarding yet.

Take the hassle out of your trip to New Zealand by remembering to use Global Wallet[SUP]®[/SUP] on the back of your membership card. As a Visa Prepaid travel card, you can load your own money to the card, transfer it to New Zealand Dollars and also earn Velocity Points on your purchases[SUP]1[/SUP].

By transferring funds in to a foreign currency wallet, you'll lock in the exchange rate so you know exactly how much you have to spend plus you can avoid foreign exchange fees[SUP]2[/SUP].

You've already got the perfect travel money solution at your fingertips, so what are you waiting for? Load it today[SUP]1[/SUP].

Anyone had any success loading the card via credit card bpay? Seems odd to me I cant Bpay from a virgin credit card to their global wallet.

May 15 mate.
May 14s gone.

You can't pay off one credit card with credit from another credit card unless its balance transfer.
They probably see VGW as a credit card, AMEX as a credit card, never the 2 shall meet!

Mods.Am on iPod please excuse.
VGW is actually issued by Rev and Cuscal but just uses Virgins name. Not really linked.

Have you ever had your card cancelled while overseas ? Is it easy to reactivate it ?

Have taken my QCC and VGW both at the same time to NZ, used them, and they both work.
Never had the card been cancelled, either by me or the issuer, but at one merchant, I don't know why, I kept forgetting the QCC PIN, lucky I had some Nzd$ enough to pay for the meal, but then, I had a thought, maybe the card got nobbled, or cancelled, because I typed my PIN in wrongly 3 times, but nope, at the Superette at Lyttelton NZ, the QCC worked with tap and go.
You can change the VGW PIN online.
But before I get bitten, no, I have not (had the card/s cancelled), or ever needed to reactivate my VGW while overseas.

The ability to Bpay from a Credit card to another account (of any type - savings, credit card, whatever) is almost non existent, so it is no surprise you can't Bpay yourself in this case!.

But the ability to reload a gift or multi currency card with visa is almost universal so why they don't allow this is beyond me.

Hi all,

So I have the QCC finally working and access to website.
There are no fees or requirements to use in a period on the QCC with $AU

Is this the same for the VW?

Do you have to use it now in a certain time to not incur fees or has VW scraped that too....

They are both the same other than FF points earned now in $AU spend?

Anyone know which ATMs in Australia won't charge fees to withdraw cash? Suncorp wants $2.50, haven't tried any others yet.
