VA Global Wallet

FWIW Ive never had an issue swiping the GWallet card for points and then using another card to pay, contactless cards need a little longer (and at a closer proximity) to process than the typical swipe through the reader will allow it

But I can see a problem with using this card. I swipe my Velocity card at BP to earn points, but use a different credit card to pay. Simply swiping the membership card at the eftpos terminal with the Visa on the back, is almost certainly bound to cause an inadvertent Paywave transaction. We shall see.

This happened to me unfortunately, the contact for the Paywave actually registered before the swipe for the points. I found 2 workarounds, firstly swipe from the bottom up to register for points first, though still a risk. Secondly (this is what I have done) suspend the card so it can't register for Paywave, still works for points. I un-suspend it when I want to use it, for me the only reason was to lock in foreign currency at today's rate ahead of a trip later in the year, YMMV.

Hey Everybody,

Have been a velocity member for years and never bothered with the global wallet as I use the Citibank Transaction Plus account when travelling abroad however I had a thought today that I was hoping someone could answer for me as I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

Could I get apply and activate a Global Wallet card and load it with AUD and then use the money loaded on the card to pay off my velocity amex credit card given the global wallet card is a visa prepaid card and not a credit card? I could then effective "double dip" and earn additional points at the rate of 1 point per $2 spent on the global wallet.

Thinking of giving it a shot and if it doesn't work just withdraw the funds from an ATM for free.

Might've been covered elsewhere, but just contacted the Global Wallet CC, & the rep confirmed that any purchases from an overseas website paid for with FX loaded on your GW will earn the Foreign Rate of $1:1 pt vs the local rate of $2:1pt

Hi,had my GW for years but loaded $100 to see how it worked.received it the next day and today went in and bought something for exactly $100 and when i put savings and my pin it declined as it was the wrong account. So I selected credit and put the pin in and it went through and on the receipt where the card details appear it said approved also.
The cashier then said it didnt go through on their system and when i checked the money was gone but in my history it said. Roger David +$100.00 shouldn't it be -$100 and it also said pending. Will they receive it when its cleared and not pending? is that how it works because if thats how its works like when you pay off an AMEX card thats ridiculous?

Had you made sure the funds had loaded? takes at least 1 business day & you receive an email confirmation when the funds are available

You course it had been in since Monday.now their call centre is down still since yesterday.already put off!

For some strange reason it says + amount while the transaction is pending. It then changes to -

Why is it pending?every other visa card I use is instant yet this will probably take 3 days.won't be using this anymore

I have a Coles Mastercard and whenever I make a purchase it comes up pending on the Card app and site but is instantly approved at time of purchase.

Slightly off topic but I have used QFF debit card when travelling to Bali last 2 times and it has been flawless for me in usage. Has anyone had any dramas with the VA Debit Card???

No Dramas with the Velocity card- USA, Europe and Asia. Multiple trips.
What I do like is the almost instant email confirming the transaction.
So, while not so much a fan of just were Velocity seems to be heading, very happy with the Global Wallet, and have just loaded it with funds for a trip to the UK, France and Italy, via Thailand next month.

I haven't experienced any issues with the global wallet card service whilst travelling. The one thing I did encounter was at a hotel which had telecommunications problems, and they wanted to take an imprint of a card (very old school!) - so in this case I had to dig out a card with embossed numbers on it instead.

A quick question - other than playing the gambling game an utilising a potentially lower exchange rate - is there any actual benefit to converting funds to different currencies? I usually don't bother, and let the conversions happen as I make transactions/withdrawals. I never like to guess in advance how much I want to convert.

Has anyone had any dramas with late points allocation after using their Global Wallet card?

I only activated mine in early January, loaded it up and spent most of it while on vacation, with the last transaction being on Jan 20th.

A couple of weeks ago I was wondering why I hadn't seen any points to show for it so I followed the link and shot off an email to the team and the gist of the reply was that the points will be allocated within four weeks of the last transaction. Obviously, four weeks has now come and gone, and still nothing. So, I contacted them again and got the classic handball consisting of the phone number to the membership centre. I'd rather not, thankyouverymuch, unless absolutely necessary.

SO - am I jumping the gun? Are my points 'late' or not?

Transactions seem to show as double processing in my VGW account, (NOT the VFF account).
Anyone seeing this?
The cash balance is right though, ie, transaction XX.xx by 2, then another one, XY.xy by 2.
Only touched my VGW card to the merchants reader once!
Don't know for sure if there was a double bonus via purchases on VGW though.

I've never got the allure of VGW. It doesn't seem any cheaper on forex or ATM fees than using regular CCs, and I actually get more points with my CC and it has the benefit of insurance. Is "locking in" the rate the only benefit?

I'm legitimately interested - everyone seems to be quite enthused by it, but I just can't see why it is better than what I do already with CCs. I feel like I am missing some benefit that is staring me in the face and I can't see??

Some people are unable to get points earning credit cards.

So points earning debit cards can be an solution.

Edit: back to one transaction per purchase again.
Coo, those double appearances were great, thought I had double points, but nope, they are back to one again.

Referring to my recent post for everyone's info I was credited with points today, 6 1/2 weeks after my first transaction and 5 weeks after my last. Better late than never I guess.

To grubbidok - I treat the card as a means of purchasing stuff, be it a restaurant meal or accommodation on holidays, or normal expenses such as fuel, with the bonus of earning points. Because it is pre-loaded, it is a virtual debit card; I don't use debt-inducing credit, so what's not to like about it?
