Just got an email from VA Global Wallet informing customers of some upcoming changes.

This email is to notify you of changes affecting your Global Wallet[SUP]®[/SUP].

  1. From 15 January 2015, an additional supported currency wallet will be available. The South African Rand (ZAR) wallet will be automatically available to all account holders and will be able to be accessed in the same way as other currency wallets offered.
  2. From 14 February 2015, an ATM fee of ZAR 20.00 will be applied when you make a withdrawal from your South African Rand wallet.
  3. From 14 February 2015, the following condition is added to the Terms & Conditions in the Product Disclosure Statement for your Global Wallet[SUP]®[/SUP]:
"If you have not made a deposit or withdrawal (excluding transactions that were not initiated by you, such as fees, charges and interest) from your Available Balance for three years and the Available Balance exceeds $500 (or any other amount that the Commonwealth Government advises from time to time), Cuscal may be required by law to transfer the Available Balance to the Commonwealth Government as unclaimed money. Cuscal will usually notify you before they do this however there may be circumstances where Cuscal is not able to (such as where the record of your email address is no longer current). You can do a free search of unclaimed money records held by ASIC (on behalf of the Commonwealth Government) through the MoneySmart website - www.moneysmart.gov.au.

Available Balances under $500 (or the current threshold for unclaimed monies if this changes) will remain with Cuscal and will be returned to you 15 business days from receiving the form by following the funds redemption procedure in clause 21.

If any part of your Available Balance is held in any Foreign Currency Wallets, this will be converted at the Applicable Exchange Rate when Cuscal transfers the funds into its central holding account(s)."

My card was blocked for entering an incorrect number just once. Thank goodness it didn't occur overseas.

My card was blocked for entering an incorrect number just once. Thank goodness it didn't occur overseas.

Hubby tried to use his card while in the US recently and it didn't work, he went online and reset his pin/password and it worked after that.

No idea what caused the original issue but glad it was an easy fix.

I'm pretty sure the number was correct and that was the first time the number got entered.

A small update on things;

* Afew weeks ago I tried to reactivate my VAGW account after cancelling it for the purpose of trying to get a standard/normal Velocity Platinum card (Those attempts failed, I gave up after my 3rd call to the Contact Centre and my 2nd Plat GW Card); The Overseas Contact Centre for Global Wallets now tell me apparently I can't reactivate my account, and suggest I sign-up for a new Velocity account to open a new account that way. With my overseas trip pushed back (again!), I'm not going to bother chasing that up just yet, just another annoyance to sort out at some point.

* Having just dropped to VA Gold, my membership pack arrives - And, surprise surprise, I have a shinny new non-GW Velocity Gold Card now in my possession for the year ahead. After my latest call to the Contact Centre to try sort out my GW Account pre-drop (As above), the agent then had no knowledge of VA issuing standard cards anymore.

I'm just annoyed that either a) I've been lied to by four different agents in the Contact Centre and/or b) Four (or more) agents in the Australian Contact Centre need reminders on what membership cards they can provide... and/or c) Someone really needs to sort the I.T Issues around Opting-In/Opting-out of receiving a GW Card

/1st world problem rant over

The positive is that you have a card that does what you want it to do - just be a VAFF card.

Thumbs down for the VA CSC staff

If you have to do online ID vertification for a VGW card or replacement card, and the online ID system would not accept, use your First and Middle name and Surname if your Australian passport has this in it, ie, First and Middle and Surname.
Was doing something, that needed Australian passport of online ID, First Name and Surname only came back not accepted.
First and Middle name and Surname duly entered, and it worked.
Just saying.

Quick question. Is there any possible way of making BPay payments FROM a Global Wallet card? I can't see a way to do this, but thought that a clever person here might have a work-around. Seeing that the GW card is a debit card and some other bank issued debit cards can be used to make BPay payments, someone may have figured out a method to make it work? I live in hope!

I recently had a similar thought, I was hoping for a way to make a payment into the GW card with my Amex card to be able to make B pay payments were Amex isn't accepted

My thought was more along the line that you can earn points using the GW as a Visa card, so why not also earn points using the card to make BPay payments? Hopefully someone may know the answer?

Go to the businesses or organisation website, look for "pay my bill".
You can pay there.
But bpay a bill directly from within VGW, nope on that.

Thanks AP. I was hoping for something like a 3rd party clearing house setup. So you give Visa details to the "clearing house" and then they convert those funds into a BPay payment to your nominated payee. Maybe it is still a pipe dream?

Received my GW card in the mail today. With expiry date of 02/16, next month!!! In fact the cards pictured in the Global Wallet brochure have a longer expiry date, heh. Contacted Virgin via twitter, they're going to send out a new card.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but the load fee for this card is now free, instead of $1. Monthly inactivity fee is now $1, down from $1.95.

But I can see a problem with using this card. I swipe my Velocity card at BP to earn points, but use a different credit card to pay. Simply swiping the membership card at the eftpos terminal with the Visa on the back, is almost certainly bound to cause an inadvertent Paywave transaction. We shall see.

The load fee reduced to $0 has been there for a while. I can't believe they still have the inactivity fee; one reason why I haven't activated and loaded my Global Wallet yet.

My folks had their red Velocity card swiped at BP then paid with an Amex. They didn't seem to run into any problems. I don't know if they have activated their Global Wallet yet, though.

I didn't know that the Velocity card is swiped through the same terminal used for card payments; I thought it would have been scanned or swiped via a separate system simply for the purposes of getting your Velocity number, hence your Velocity account. Notwithstanding the same terminal used for scanning the Velocity card and payment, an inadvertent Paywave transaction is a risk taken almost all the time.

Yep, it's the same terminal. Swipe Velocity card first, wait for confirmation, then swipe/insert/tap credit card. I'm still chuckling about being issued a credit card with only one month before expiry on it. Virgin weren't able to tell me how that happened.

And I agree, the inactivity fee makes no sense whatsoever.

Isn't the expiry date linked to your anniversary date? Mine is I think.
