Vaccine Rollout in Australia - personal accounts.

The problem was this report from QLD.

QLD had put out the advice that people with allergies should not have AZ because of 4 cases in regional QLD.However no evidence was presented that it was actually anaphylaxis. The cases were investigated by ATAGI and the advice was to continue with the previous 15 minute wait after the AZ or Pfizer jab.Yet we still see this misinformation being used by people who really should be getting the most up to date advice.

In the USA they were over 100 reports of anaphylaxis with the Pfizer vaccine but when investigated only 1 in 6 met the definition of anaphylaxis.

Yes I had edited my reply with the tga report I found. It was late March that my friend was told she couldn’t have AZ, so I assume by now the nurses’ have changed what they are doing. Although she only had her Pfizer jab a few weeks ago and no one at the surge centre said “it’s fine - you don’t need Pfizer you can have AZ”.

I’m not sure my mums reaction is anaphylactic either, if it’s like mine we just come out in hives all over.

Like me.

FWIW I was seeing my dentist this morning as I am undergoing treatment and I am on antibiotics due to this (Non-penicillin based due to past allergy) and he confirmed that there was no reason for myself not to proceed with my AZ Vaccination next week.

Some more personal accounts (topical for the above conversations).

My health service has been giving the vaccine since day 1, and I've only ever seen one actual anaphylaxis. This person had anaphylaxis to the first Pfizer dose, so was referred to the ID/Immunology clinic at my health service to sit in their chair and have the second dose. Same reaction and had her in ED for an adrenaline infusion overnight.

Plenty of code's and ED referrals in the first few weeks of the program, but once better education on vasovagal vs anaphylaxis was rolled out, they stopped pretty quickly. Still get the occasional code/referral for non-vaccine related stress reactions.

I’m in Melbourne.
Yesterday I tried to get an appointment via the 1800 call centre at the 4 clinics closest to me.
Was told ”all booked up for this week & next”.
So drove to Jeff’s Shed, parked underneath, walked in & didn’t have to wait at all. Total time on site approx 25 minutes, including the mandatory 15 min wait time post-needle.
As a bonus, it turns out that they cover your parking fee as well 🙂.

Not an account from Australia, but a personal account of an Australian - 30 yo son got his second AZ shot a week ago in the UAE. He said it knocked him quite badly with exhaustion and general malaise - sleeping 14 hrs a day for 3 days in a row. So he suggested that anyone going for a second shot of AZ allow for this possibility. he had a very minor reaction to first shot - just a sore arm and a mild headache, so was surprised at this response.

Vic really should do vaccination holidays! Seem very well organised. It’s a mess up here at home :(

They seem to be quite diligent about monitoring side effects. I have now filled in 2 surveys - one a few days after vaccination and one today which is 8 days.
When you say 'they' I presume you mean the clinic? I've had no contact. But that was before the media did their clot spin out.

It seems to be ACT health sending it out. When we were vaccinated they asked us to scan a qcode on the wall and fill in some details and we would be sent voluntary surveys. It seems to be originating from ausvaxsafety.org.au

New York might be offering free vaccines to tourists - now all you need is a reason to get out of Aus and fly there :). The ultimate in vaccine tourism.
Alaska already had plans to do this, the idea was they could use up all the AZ stocks the US has been sitting on given they don't seem to want to use it ........

Not really a personal account in Australia, but the UK - but Mrs FB has had her 2nd AZ jab (9 week mark, had an option for 8 but pushed back as the sweet spot is 10 weeks). Let's see if her side effects are as bad this time round as the first.........

I'm just waiting for my invite for my 2nd Pfizer jab, supply is more lumpy so it's pot luck.

In Vic reports are along the line that demand to be vaccinated is now up and that booking slots have now become hard to get over the next fortnight. Not long ago if you were eligible they were very easy to get.

Also while numbers vaccinated on the weekend are always lower, the total for this Saturday was the highest yet.

So after having been opened up to everyone over 50 the the numbers per day are significantly higher. Hopefully the momentum continues.
