Vaccine Rollout in Australia - personal accounts.

Was like that for me at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton last month. mygov update came through that night.

Just got a message saying the vaccination status has been updated and the digital certificate is there in myGov. Looks very official, but can't use it anywhere ☹.

Still no side effects 13 hours later other than tenderness on arm, not even a headache which I got after the 1st shot.

So it's now close to T+27 after the second Pfizer shot. Still nothing major, just some tenderness at the injection site, and had a little trouble sleeping on that side. This morning, no problems leaning on that side.

It's looking like the side effects on me with the first shot was worse compared to the second one. I had a headache not long after, tenderness on the arm for a few days and tiredness for like a week.

I am late 40s and trying to vaccinated. GP doesn't want me to have AZ. Been in the Qld Health queue for ages, got an email saying we haven't forgotten about you and likely in October. So some of us are trying....

Some of the GPs seem less than helpful. A lady I know went to her regular GP to be vaccinated. She had Polio as a child and has minimal feeling in her legs. Her GP refused to give her AZ on the grounds that she wouldn’t be able to detect a clot because of the lack of sensation in her legs. He told her she wouldn’t be able to be vaccinated because her age group wasn’t eligible for Pfizer. No attempt to contact ACT Health or advise to her to do so.

Last I heard she was going to Brisbane to visit her daughter, who was going to sort it out …..
I had recommended the respiratory centre in Canberra. She phoned up and they were very helpful and said if she was contra indicated for AZ no problems getting Pfizer. So she is now booked in for a Pfizer jab. Still bemused by GP response!

Just had my second AZ at same place (Sandringham, Melbourne) as first dose. Team are from Alfred Health but located in local GP surgery. Very well organised.
Vaccine update and certificate available on MyGov online by the time I got home! Date stamp was during my 15 min post vax wait time.
Yay! I've joined the fully vaccinated club.

2nd AZ vaccination yesterday. Easy to get in (North Ryde Respiratory) despite booking at my GP not available for 3weeks. As an aside when GP appointment was not available for weeks, got my first dose here with 40 minutes notice. Plenty of slots available, not crowded.

Have held off until 8 weeks after first dose, was a bit surprised after listening to 11am updates that nurse actually tried to dissuade me, not encouraging at all.

Yes, that is interesting as a GP friend has been encouraging anyone 6 weeks or more past 1st AZ to get their second.

Yes, I was convinced when a friend who’s partners sister (an epidemiologist) phoned them up and told them to get the second vaccination NOW, similar ages/situation to me!

GPs have every right to refuse to give the vaccine to their patient, regardless of what the guidelines are be it from the TGA or ATAGI.

You totally missed the point, which was that he wasnt refusing based on a medical assessment but rather complete ignorance of the fact that he was allowed to give it to anyone 18+ after a consultation and discussion of risk. If he has medically assessed it as not suitable that is fine, but to not know about the rule change this many weeks after it changed is plainly pathetic.

If you are going to reply on GPs then those GPs need to know the rules, one that fails to keep abrest of chnages which have been well publicised shouldnt be particpating in the program at all.

The GP gave the right advice in a previous post as Pfizer is not officially open to under 40s.Being an Uber driver doesn't occur in the essential worker list that GPs are meant to stick to.

Except he was asking to sign the waiver to get AZ, which is absolutely an option supposed to be available to him (and which you support). So instead of his GP being helpful, he had to go GP shopping where another Dr with no knowledge of his medical history happily gave it after a 1 minute chat, making a mockery of the whole model of "see your GP", no one can properly assess your medical history in a minute.

In other news:

My Vaccination record was updated and the Covid-19 Digital Certificate issued within 2 hours of my second shot.

After first Pfizer dose i had a minor headache on the second day (although that might have been work related lol), but definiate sides effects from dose two in severe lethargy the next day, I couldnt focus and put myself to bed and slept over 12 hours (I normally only sleep 5 hours), was up for about 3 hours and then slept another 12 hours. Back to my usual self today though.

Sorry to say but sometimes you have to GP shop. Some have much more vaccine than others, are more used to it and are following the indication and advice more accurately than others. Unfortunately ATAGI has created such a mess even some healthcare professionals are not clear. And PS good on you for trying!

1 week to go for me to get out of the 4 week danger zone.

3 weeks after my first dose, I have 9 weeks to go till my second dose is due.

In 1 week's time I will reach the point where the second dose could be safely given if there were to be a bad outbreak, and in 6 week's time I'll reach the point where I could be fully vaccinated sooner than I would have been with Pfizer if first doses of that are still unavailable, even waiting the recommended 12 weeks between AZ doses.

I had my first Pfizer shot today at RPAH. It took slightly less than 2 hours from joining the queue to leaving the waiting room. So bring a book if you are sick of looking at your phone.

Though going from the screening area to the registration/vaccination hub was a little 'follow the leader', the process itself was quite smooth and none of the staff seemed that stressed, something that I found surprising. Kudos to all those involved.

24 hours post my 2nd Pfizer dose, arm less sore than last time and no other effects, maybe a very slight headache if anything.
In and out in 30 minutes at the Noarlunga clinic south of Adelaide again, all still running very efficiently.

Had 2nd dose of Pfizer on Tuesday afternoon.
Sore arm as per first jab for 24 hours.
However, around the 24 - 30 hour mark (yesterday afternoon), l did feel a bit uneasy/hot flush. Took a very hot shower (which felt great and helped a lot) and went to bed. Woke up this morning 100%.

I can understand why people would want to take the jab on a Friday - so they have a weekend to recover if there are any after effects.

Recovering on a weekend?! What better excuse for a sickie than taking a shot for the good of the country! There's bound to be some further potential to leverage this aspect of the vaccinations in certain demographics, as well, I suspect :)

Cheers,
Matt.
