Vaccine Rollout in Australia - personal accounts.

My parents had the AZ vaccine this am...fine so far. It seems from my anecdotal hospital reports, the younger you are, the more likely to get side effects from the first dose of the AZ vaccine which are often more severe. Hearing reports of some having to take sickies the following day! The main side effects are lethargy, fevers up to 39 degrees and myalgias. Sore injection site was almost inevitable.

In broad generalisation the younger = stronger immune system = stonger response.

And likely that immuno suppressed people in general will not respond.

Oh please don't say that! Although I'm artificially immunocompromised, maybe my system will break through.

You will be just fine I’m sure!

The reactions can be quite full on for those who have a strong immune response but evaporate very very quickly it’s been quite interesting to observe...

Just a follow up to my experience. Overnight following the second Pfizer vaccine I developed headache, shivering, sore muscles etc. If hadn’t had the vaccine would have thought I was coming down with flu/ viral illness. I took some Paracetamol and Ibuprofen and was able to power on through the day at work. By the evening my symptoms were improving and next day back to normal.

Do you think the AZ would have performed any differently ?

Any difference to your 5G reception though?

I just received my first AZ at my local GP/Respiratory clinic. It was very well organised, no waiting for the shot and 15 minutes wait afterwards. They are using a very fine gauge needle so I didn't even feel it. My 5G reception is now working better than it has for the last few weeks. Definitely cause and effect there 👨‍🚀🤣

Husband had his just an hour ago. The nurse (same as the one who did me) doing the vaccination mentioned that there was the instruction to take 5 seconds to vaccinate. She felt that was too long and so vaccinates quickly. As a result, nothing felt. My niece had hers this morning also, through her GP and she did experience pain and said the vaccination seemed to take some time. Maybe that's the difference? Interestingly today I can feel where I had the vaccination. And a lump. Not painful, in fact I'm happy to feel - something 😂

Well, FWIW, I had my first Covid jab this afternoon. When I arrived at the clinic (not my current GP), they said that my GP's surgery had not provided the Health Summary requested, because they needed the new clinic to fax my current GP with a request including my signature. Well, this was done, and I got my jab (eventually), but what a rigmarole. Who said it was supposed to be easy?

Anyway, the jab was completely painless (what a great nurse) and so far no side effects at all. Let's hope it does the job....

It seems some clinics will do it well and others not so perfectly. My experience today was the opposite of yours and I believe was facilitated by the booking system they were using (HotDoc). Online it allowed me to view available slots, fill in and submit the 2 questionnaires (1 COVID and the other a patient form as its not my usual GP), confirm my appointment and then it provided 2 follow up information emails post-vaccination.
They were completely ready for me and it allowed me to be through the front doors and into the carpark assessment area within 5 minutes. Like a well-oiled machine, vaccinators were churning out a patient about every 3 minutes.
At this clinic, it seemed to be best practice and appears it was definitely economically viable for them.

Same with my clinic that was only bookable online. The only clinical contact I had was with the vaccinating nurse.

Well, I'm impressed. That's how it should be.

I'll be reviewing who will be my gp in due course (not the current one, I imagine).
