Velocity changes: Changes to status credits

Would depend on what fare class you are flying.

Cool, Just not sure because on the earn side of things, the fare classes are all put in under the one economy badge. Just wasn't sure where I could find details as to which class is under what in this case.

I think my class was K

edit: just saw this as well thanks

AUH/LHR is 3,432 miles according to MileCalc:
MileCalc :: The Ultimate Mileage Calculator for Frequent Flyers

30 SCs for -Y (disc economy) and 60 SCs for Y (economy) one way.

I will just assume mine was a discount economy one. The whole fare is a mixed class fare, premium till AUH then Economy on etihad.

Hi Velocity Rewards,

As a 1.9m tall QF Platinum FF who is considering shifting a lot of my flying to DJ, I like the new offerings.

What I would really like to see is the ability to book V Australia exit row seats on line, which I prefer over Y+ (premium economy seats due to the leg room). Is there any change of that happening for DJ Golds or DJ Platinums? It would be the final game changer for me as 90% of my flying (last year 3,250 QF SCs) were long haul international flights.

Question for you - previously there was a 2 month grace period at the end, so if you didn't requalify you would still get 2 more months at the higher status after the anniversary date. Will this still be the case?
Members will be able to use their membership card for an extra month following their Review Date, this is essentially time for their new card to arrive. All existing cards with a valid Benefits Expiry date will still be honored

If it was, then during that time one could go for enough SCs to hit the Qualify level again, to hit the status level again, and effectively never drop back. Particularly if there were no SC's in the first 2 months of the rolling period where the drop in status occurred.
Member's will be assessed for a maintain on their Review Date, so the member needs to earn the required Status Credits during their 12 month membership period.

Second question - Will it still be a soft landing if not making the requalification, from Gold back to Silver (and long term, from Platinum back to Gold)?
Yes. We'll be gentle.

I've just checked my last two transactions. Both were for 1,435 points. The outbound leg has mapped to 15 SCs, the inbound leg has mapped to 14 SCs. Bit weird...

We are currently working on the process of crediting Points to members accounts in a more timely manner. You should note that members will not be disadvantaged, as the day your upgrade takes effect, you will receive a full 12 months of benefits until your next review date.

I hope so. I am still waiting nearly 6 months after i took some flights with Skywest to post! I've lodged a missing points claim nearly a month ago and no word back..

Also how will they calculate the SC's? from the old way and convert them or in the new way?

Common problem for me and DJ, they never reply back to my emails! 2 for 2 so far!

Question for Velocity Rewards.

Are the new status credits and points rates effective for flights taken from today or for bookings made from today?

Ie I have a PE flight tomorrow that was booked last week - will it earn status credits per $ or the 45 SCs for a Zone 2 flight in PE?

You think that's bad - I was on a flight PE last night! Who knows where my SCs will end up? ;)

Effective for bookings made from the 6th June 2011.
Previous bookings will be on the old earning system, then converted. Shouldn't be a big difference though!

I've got the same, and when I go to look at my account activity it has all disappeared! I'm guessing they're doing some work to iron out a few bugs.

Yes, my year to date status credits have mysteriously dropped to 0. I'll assume this is temporary.
When are your review dates? Mine is more than 14 months away and YTD has dropped 0 as I posted earlier.

Ok, good to know. I really appreciate how forthcoming the Virgin Australia reps are on this forum in keeping us informed...

It seems that anyone who's assessment date is >12 months away will be at zero, as only the SCs in the 12 months leading up to the date are relevant. My SC total is showing as 297 and my renewal is November, but my partner is showing as zero with a renewal of Sept 2012. I'd say that the SCs will start tracking at T-12months.

Doh don't mind me. Just realised that the change isn't retrospective.

I have a flight this Friday, Blue Saver MEL-HBA, and I think I paid around $79.

So that would be $79 x 7 SC/$ = 553 converted to 6 SCs? Whereas on the new system it would have been 10 SCs...not that I'm worried about 4 SCs less!

I guess what I was suggesting with the grace period (now effectively 1 month) is I could do the following:

Say my renewal is November, and at the end of November I am at 390 SCs, so will be dropped to Silver. During December I still get the Gold benefits for an extra month. I could then try to fly 110 status credits in December to get me up to 500 for the rolling 12 month period, thereby effectively requalifying for Gold during the grace period, and then never really dropping back to Silver. Even if I didn't do it in December, and dropped to Silver, I could be back at Gold again soon enough based on the rolling 12 months.

Whereas with QF or the old DJ system, if the SCs had been wiped, I'd be 500(DJ) or 700(QF) SCs away from Gold, which would take a lot longer to requalify.

So this is definitely an improvement!

Thank you!

That sucks - that's a 20 SC difference for me on my trip this week. I was busy planning a status run to make up the remaining 12 SCs to silver, I guess I won't bother.

If you're booking from today you will get the SCs benefits under the new system, won't you?

I'm in the same boat for MEL-PPP return for a September wedding. :(

The difference is 30 SC

Yes, but the flights I already have booked for this week will earn 20 SCs instead of 40.

Only need 200 for Silver - according to ausbt right?
