Velocity changes: Changes to status credits

I understand and acknowledge that status will be easier to gain, but I don't feel that there should be a different system in place to apply status credits to previous travel - it should all be subjected to the same rules.
I agree, but I understand why it's been done this way; I'm guessing DJ don't want to suddenly find themselves with twice as many silvers as they had previously.

But I do think all future travel should be treated the same, regardless of when it was booked. (Overall I'm happy with the changes, but this would make it better!)

Have to remember that there are some scenarios where the old system is better, so people might not want a previously booked flight to credit under the new system. For example, as a Gold Velocity member if I bought a fully flexible fare MEL-SYD a week ago at $399, I would have got 2793 points/SCs converted to 28 SCs, but under the new system I would only get 20. Anytime something like this changes, there will be winners and losers.

Maybe the "fairest" way to do it would be if the system could calculate both and credit whichever is higher. Bit difficult to implement from an IT perspective though.

I'm sure if you missed Gold or Silver by a small amount for this reason you could call Velocity, or PM Velocity Rewards here and they might be able to work something out! (Sorry, didn't mean to dob you in guys!) :p

The Current SC's field is the total SC's earned in the last 12 months.

The Maintain is the amount you need to make by your anniversary date.

This is not based on the 12 months, but just the amount earned since your last review/anniversary date (which could have been anywhere from 1-11 months ago).
Caveat on this - if your review date is more than 12 months hence, your current SC's files is Zero, irrespective of how many flights may heave earned SC's on!

Yes true ... I mentioned that earlier in response to another question, but forgot the caveat here again!

For Red members then I assume there is no review date on the account anymore, as it would only be "generated" when going up to Silver?

DRW to CNS via PER, ADL MEL CBR SYD BNE ROK TSV :lol: (the original great circle route).

If you live in a city with less than optimal number of direct flights (i.e. Canberra) you spend a heck of a lot of time connecting not through choice anyway. Things now get interesting at the reasonably priced Flexi price point where apart from peak times connecting and direct flights are the same price. e.g. CBR-OOL for next Tuesday the options are:

CBR OOL direct Saver $129 10 sc; Flexi $268 20 sc
CBR SYD OOL Saver $154 20 sc; Flexi $268 40 sc

It's rare to see savers at the same price if there is a choice of direct and connecting.

Will have to give that a go! I am new to the whole frequent flyer thing, it's so addictive! lol

Any idea how a flexi is cheaper than a saver or are there a few more bumps in the IT dept of VA? ;)

Strange zone examples here:

If you are earning SC per sector, why have a DRW-Apia example, or ADL-Apia for that matter, and I am not sure what the loads are like DRW-MKY?

I've noticed quite a few of these lately, so not sure if it is a glitch or not. Just remember if you want to change it then you'd have to change it for another flexi fare which could be significantly higher depending on how close to the date it is. And flexi are still not that flexible - there is an $80 fee to cancel from memory.

Also happy if anyone has any ideas how to increase SC gain on the MEL-SYD run...

No idea how to stop via CBR (or even BYE/OOL) and making it cheaper or on par :(

Stupid MEL & SYD being so close together... *grumble grumble*

Unless you book as a multistop (which becomes more expensive) I don't think you can even do routing via another city, or at least not on the VA site.

Hey Misha

Did you notice this today while flying?

Dedicated Priority Boarding lane when travelling with Virgin Australia departing from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth domestic airports (available at most gates); and when travelling with V Australia (all airports)

The F/A I spoke to today tells me its dead set and started today. Each gate has two lanes. (Insert comment comparing it to American Airlines, and how they always get it right.)

Did you see it today as you passed through the airport?

Have a look at some fares involving connection on QF some times. Red-e-deals can be more than fully flexible

Awesome!! Take note Qantas! Yes the AA system is great - it's about the only thing I like about domestic US travel!

True, but you can't deny, after somebody posts a comment about priority boarding, there is always, within the next three posts, a reference to how well AA do it.

Awesome!! Take note Qantas!!

I want to see it before I believe it. Why I want to know if Misha saw it today?

I noticed this online today so when they called the first boarding call for my flight I left the lounge to check it out. There was nothing there (and this is normal gate 34 at SYD) so I sat in the gate area and waited for everyone to board before me. No priority entrance and no mention of it either. :(

Shame as I think it would be a great new idea, and easily (and cheaply) implemented...

Yes take note - once they actually start it ;)

Interesting. I wonder if it has anything to do with being a A330 gate.... But then again, you can use dual aerobridge with A330, so it makes even less sense.

Somebody today asked me whats the point of priority boarding, the que only takes 2 mins. So I pulled a Ryan Bingham..

"No, it takes 5mins a flight, last year I did 52 sectors, thats 260mins you willing to spend 4 and a half hours queing to get on a flight?"

Hehehehe
