Velocity changes: Changes to status credits

Sheesh - I have just arrived home from a flight (DJ of course!) from Sydney and trying to catch up - I am quite confused and trying to wrap my head around all of this... I am sure in a few months, we will all be analysing our SCs on autopilot... :p

My concern is that my review date has been brought back significantly!!!! Very different to previous (and what's on my card)... As in different years!!!

So after I posted this morning I went back in to my Velocity account to check out the details and lo and behold, my review date was changed again to the date it was last week - as were my status credits :) I am now definitely Gold for a good while longer - and still have a few months to try to get to Platinum based on details released later. Again, I take my hat off to DJ as they had an error on my FF account, and bang it was fixed within an hour. I nearly died when the site said 'closed for maintenance' again at about 9.30am, but all is good now ... thanks DJ - looking forward to trying to figure this all out.

Still hanging on the question of who their Asian partner is.

One of my all time fave carriers MAS has now jumped into bed with QF.

I'm devastated about this: I booked a J on Malaysian in August only because they were partnered with DJ. I hope this still is in play in August and I don't lose 120 SCs :(

Yup, that's how I'm reading it. Loophole .. closed :(

Oh no!!!!

Yes. We'll be gentle.

Bless you Virgin: you are impressing us again ;)

Ok, good to know. I really appreciate how forthcoming the Virgin Australia reps are on this forum in keeping us informed...

You know what: I don't think many realise how lucky we are that they are that way. I was talking to a colleague after my meeting (in the DJ SYD Lounge naturally) and they suggested that I call the Velocity hotline or email them through their website, but with the current changes waiting times would be astronomical.

Come on here, not only are they constantly posting and responding to the thread - you know you could PM Velocity Rewards (or VA or CD)if you really need to. This is why, even if for some horrible reason my Gold was 'enhanced' down to Red, I would still keep all my flying with Virgin Australia.

Great work guys!

Cheers,

Misha

Wait that is to retain silver my mistake. 250 to get silver, min 200 to retain.

200 until the end of this year. Then it goes up to 250 to get, 200 to retain.

I don't think you need to worry about the MAS-QF deal for a while - according to the reports it will be 18 months until MAS joins OW, so I doubt they'll drop the VA partnership by August. Would end up with a lot of annoyed people if they did! Would be in MAS' best interest to keep it going right up to joining OW, if not keeping it permanently. After all wouldn't it be better to offer options to both loyal groups of Australian travelers?!

Another quick question for Velocity Rewards (as if you don't have enough)...

Under the new system, will reward flights also earn status credits?

Shouldn't be too hard to organise a status run for 32 credits if you're keen.
Not too hard, just a lot more costly than the 12 SCs I thought I'd need. I don't think I'll bother, it's only silver - I'll get there eventually anyway, just a matter of time.

My Status Credit Balance states 330 (I assume this is my rolling 12 months...sounds about right), where as my Status Credit earned since last review date is sitting at 155 (45 to maintain Silver).

Am I correct in assuming I can earn Gold with 170 more SCs or do I still have to earn 345?

Effective for bookings made from the 6th June 2011.
Previous bookings will be on the old earning system, then converted. Shouldn't be a big difference though!

See, this is exactly where I see the problem. I'm a pretty organised traveller, and have booked probably half of my flying for the rest of the year (as they revolve around football games) - work travel (the other half) will all be booked on an as and when basis.

If this means that I'll be getting an average of 14 SC's in the new system instead of 20 had I booked later (but spent the same), then I'm pretty unhappy - it's more than 25% less than I should be getting.

Imagine, if you will, that half way through a sporting season the governing body decides to change the way points are calculated on the competition table - be it soccer, rugby or whatever - but doesn't backdate points earnt so far in the same way. It's unfair, in my view.

Yes, I understand and acknowledge that status will be easier to gain, but I don't feel that there should be a different system in place to apply status credits to previous travel - it should all be subjected to the same rules.

I agree. Travel from here on in should be on the new system, no matter when it is/was booked.

This is what they did with the new fare structure..

I have to admit, it would be fairer for flights that were taken rather than booked from today to count in the new system, its penalising customers who are the airlines favourites, the ones that book a long way in advance!

I'm confused already.

My account shows my current status credits are 208 which according to the table puts me over the line to maintain my silver status.
However it also then says I need 114 more status credits to maintain silver.

On another note.....I hope Velocity really fixes the issue of points not being credited for some partners.

The Current SC's field is the total SC's earned in the last 12 months.

The Maintain is the amount you need to make by your anniversary date.

This is not based on the 12 months, but just the amount earned since your last review/anniversary date (which could have been anywhere from 1-11 months ago).

No replies? Everyone having dinner or is this confusing more than just jad01 and I?

VAA may wish to clarify for us......please, I'm itching to start booking up 170 SCs for Gold :D

Opps, cross posts.....sorry 'bout that!

So I'm correct in assuming I use the Status Credit Balance to earn next tier?

Looks like my recent EY J to LHR trip will get me gold:

SYD-AUH = 160 SC
AUH- LHR = 120 SC
LHR-AUH = 120 SC
AUH-SYD = 160

= 540 Status credits

I recall doing some calculations before I left on that trip, and under the old model I still would've been silver (unless I was mistaken?)

I'm happy :)

Yep that's it. The SC balance is for the Upgrades, as it is the rolling 12 month amount. The only thing is SC's could drop off this at any time whenever they are 1 year old, so you'd have to keep an eye on your activity statement to monitor what is disappearing when.

If there is an IT Propellor-head around they might be kind enough to do a fancy spreadsheet and post here to track it? ;)

Many thanks. I'm also assuming if SCs drop off the end, between booking a flight and taking that flight, you're still not quite there yet?

Yeah I'd guess so. But at least not all the SC's drop off, only those that are 12 months old. So it means that if you just missed out this month, then you could try again the following month.

I really hope QF are watching, because it would be good if they could follow VA's lead on this for a change.
