Velocity Platinum

Purple does make sense as it ties in with the purple premium brand that they are rolling out (PE/Business are represented with purple).

Anytime Lounge Access will be one of the new levels benefits......;)....;) ?

+1 for the purple idea. Blends with the new 'colour scheme' just launched and provides a point of difference - why copy QF with a black card??

Maybe branding the level as 'elite' (or alternatively 'diamond' - NOT 'platimum') with emphasis on the 'royal' purple card could work well. Also, maybe some form of special colour branding on the card - gold typeface? (would have to be careful with this)

I am interested in where it would be positioned though? Will gold be 'enhanced' in the sense we have become so accustomed to? Or will the new level provide benefits beyond the gold offering, with a relatively high gain/retain requirement?

Also, 'Velocity' needs to go!! People know 'Frequent Flyer' is QF; nowhere near as many know that Velocity is DJ - The new name would need to have 'Virgin Australia' and a reference to flying - like Flying club

I agree with everybody. I don't know how many times I've had to go, Velocity, you know, Virgin Blue.

I'd say Mile High Club, but that might confuse people. Something like Global Rewards ;)

It may not be a bad marketing idea to call it "The Mile High Club" because it is obviously going to draw attention both from the public and the media, and who is going to forget a name like that? It sounds refined/stylish but also comes with a naughty/vibrant twist just like the name, Virgin.

Slogan could be "Get it up"...

I've just pulled out some of my research on colours. It's hard with colours as there is no natural hierarchy and many colours have connections to certain types of feelings and connotations.

My earlier thought was that there could be a whole new take on Virgin (Australia) Blue. I think a system based on colours isn't so great, but you could use colours to show the levels.

What about this as a different way of looking at the higher level, rather than the super formal black. You might want something more individualised.

At the highest level or one of the higher levels, you can a more individual card which might be a combination of a designed warm / cool with some neutral tones in it, say a stripes of a violet blue, orange yellow and grey or like a red orange, green blue and a grey. Or a picture of your favourite VA plane. I think one of the banks had some sort of make your own card thingy.

You could also go with white as the highest level. And you probably want a super exclusive name for it.

4 level colours - Blue (in recognation of old airline name and fares), Red, Purple and White. Or White, Blue, Red, Purple. Or White, Red, Blue and then Purple.

For the highest level, you can also have a pick your own benefits thingy, where say you don’t want lounge access or whatever service, you can give that up in exchange for, extra points or whatever.

I guess the level names would depend on what type of items or things "The Flying Club by Virgin Australia" wants to be associated with – minerals, gems, animals, exotic locations that they don’t fly to, etc.

Hmm…

Then again, naming it the mile high club could compel more people to aim for the elite lever tier ;) (I'm sure many would be disappointed with the actual benefits)

Think they'd honor old Global Rewards points? With interest of course

I think it may be just a bit too naughty.

But just think what it wold be like when the coles partnership happens...

"Are you a member of the mile high club?"
"Yes, Gold."

Many, many cheap jokes that could be made with this...:)

I hope Virgin put out such a good product that it forces QF to improve also...

Also will be very happy if they link with AirNZ, uber happy days ahead then =)

Given that it's an Australian airline, I doubt they would use the word miles. You could call the top tier that name though.

Does anybody think they'll team up with Star Alliance, or is that an abandoned dream?

This would be lovely.

I think a universe type level system would be good. Like star, nova, etc. or what about the spheres of earth.

No one said they had to be exact words, after all you are just creating a name / identity and can really call if whatever you want. Maybe each could be linked to some sort of environmental initiative.

The spheres is a fantastic idea!

1. Troposphere - Starting level
2. Stratosphere
3. Mesosphere
4. Thermosphere - Highest level you can achieve
5. Exosphere - Only achievable if you have been on a Virgin Galactic flight, most exclusive tier in the world, or should I say, galaxy?

I don't think we will see new names for the status tiers. Maybe new colours, but nothing else. Red will always be the lowest tier, otherwise they would have to re-issue the 1.2million red cards, which wouldn't be very cost effective. (Then again, great PR)

Then again, there was the QF White=Bronze thing.

Hmmm, I think I just invalidated my whole arguement. :-|

Actually, I was talking about like geosphere, atmosphere, biosphere, etc. BUT you have pulled apart the layers of the atmosphere, which works way better.

You can have like levels, each climbing to the next, as the higher layer in the atmosphere. I like it a lot.

You called also call the program Atmosphere or Sphere or now suddenly it's too dated, Flying Club (which I do still like).

Atmosphere.
Go Higher.

Atmosphere. Virgin Australia.

VA should pay us to be on their creative team.

Actually, I just made that up. Gees that good. Strong, short, powerful, potential.
