Atmosphere is clean, Atmosphere is quiet, Atmosphere is simple.

Hahahahaha. Love it.

Atmosphere
Go higher.

Atmosphere. Each layer has it's own rewards. Virgin Australia.

I was purposely trying to avoid using "Atmosphere. The frequent flyer program of Virgin Australia." It takes away a little of the clean, quiet, simple seduction.

To the whiteboard, team!

I like the idea of a non-rare-metal card for the 'elite' top tier too. Although, I would suggest purple. Still goes with the new colour scheme, but would not require the mental change that using red would.

Purple was my guess too. And it would be consistent with other 'premium' products from VA. Think premium fare, premium check-in signs at priority check in, purple colouring in their new lounges. And red and silver/charcoal are already taken. Apart from purple, the only colour left is white. That screams no frills rather than premium in my opinion.

Scene is a classroom with a really boring teacher lecturing about the atmosphere. Teacher droning on in background. Young student listening but not hearing, looking out the window staring into the above.

Suddenly it is years later and he is working at VA on a plane or with flyers or something and he recalls this and then suddenly he does this rough quarter circle shapes fanning out that form the atmosphere layers; like waves spreading upwards.

He goes around to all the VA staff talking to them about this thing he created and you hear extracts of the program highlights. Then it is the end and he's finishing giving his presentation. It turns out he is in a boardroom over looking a busy VA terminal and he is presenting to Richard Branson and other senior people. Richard says, I love it, let's go.

The rough lines he hand drew turn into beautiful graphics of the Atmo promo material.

The lines are on the left of the logo and the word Atmosphere on the right in followed by the fading in of some of the other lines above and as the logo is being "drawn in" you hear a clean, quiet and simple voice - "Atmosphere. (pause). Each layer has it's own rewards. (pause). Go higher with Virgin Australia."

I like this purple reasoning a lot.

niceee, but can we have ol' Hans whispering the words "clean, pure, premium" in the background for the whole ad?

Haha, sure whatever you want. Maybe those words should appear in the "conversations" that this program creator has with the random VA connections he meets while sharing his idea.

I've just gone to Youtube to find the video with Hans in it and following our conversation, it's so much funnier now.

I gotta say, their main ad, still is pretty catchy and I am immune to a lot of advertising.

The idea of atmosphere really appeals to me, although I think it'd be hard to associate in a consumers head the link between atmosphere and a frequent flyer program (albeit the reasoning is there).

I was under the impression VA would be re-issuing velocity (or whatever its called) cards, especially since they will need to give one to every Fly Buys member in the country (all 10.2 million) anyway. Surely the cost wouldn't be excessive for a production run of that size and as mentioned would be great PR.

I would think the cards wouldn't cost them more than 5c to make each because they make so many of them. Then admin of sending them out and stuff would be the costly component.

Purple colour is the best idea. It just works for the tier given their current branding, so it has to be done!

My two cents worth:

1. Don't really care what they call the program.

2. Don't really care what colour top tier is, although it they rename all levels to a bunch if random colours that would be just as confusing as the name Velocity. Whilst Silver, Gold, Platinum might be the same as QF, it's pretty well understood (eg. Credit cards, many FF programs, etc).

3. I do care about what benefits it will bring over Gold, considering there are no Flounges, no domestic J lounges (and I doubt they will considering they haven't been built as part of the refurb), and apart from points, seating, and luggage, what else does WP give you on QF.

4. I do care about the points level required, particularly if they go to a miles based system for domestic rather than spend. Currently with the points per $1 system I probably would qualify for Platinum with Virgin, even if at worst case it is double Gold (which personally I hope it's not, depending what the benefits are). If it goes to miles based though, I might not even make gold again.

Maybe each could be linked to some sort of environmental initiative.

Seriously???? Your not Cate Blanchet are you???

Save the planet!!! .... Fly more frequently and burn heaps of jet fuel, leaving a massive carbon footprint...

Ahhhh, modern environmentalists.. Just love Em .....

Have we all missed something else???

Just logged in and the SC's have all CHANGED!!!

Have to run to a meeting, but will be looking in detail at what's changed when I get back to my desk!
