How far in advance are SQ Award seats made available through Velocity? Looking at making a booking for early June 22 2023 and want to snap it up as soon as it becomes available.

330 days out, same as with other Velocity partner airlines.

Well - doing a trial booking we can currently book up to May 28th - so you will be booking very shortly.

However, and maybe this will change, there is NO J availability on SQ currently - and there hasn't been for a few weeks

I'm hoping this changes soon as I am looking for early August flights - so have a little time up my sleeve

The problem is on SQ it is bookable at the moment until 21/6 and in ~15 minutes will be until 22/6. So very likely most premium seats will go. And forget about F awards on SQ through VA. They will be as rare as hen's teeth.

There are particular issues with SQ right now. They are devaluing KrisFlyer points on 5 July so a lot of KF members will be booking awards now at the current rates, potentially looking to get the dates changed when for future inventory is released. This has caused a dearth of premium seats at the far end of the calendar, which has led KF members who actually want to fly on those dates having waitlisted for huge blocks of dates in case one of those dates frees up. Plus, I understand SQ may have done a ring around to PPS members to encourage them to block book award capacity at the far end of the calendar. If I were a betting person, I would say that a huge amount of award space has been booked by people not intending to use the flights they have booked/waitlisted and at some future point, those bookings will be released.

Pre-Covid there was usually fairly good availability of premium seats (at least through KrisFlyer) and most did not get snapped up the moment they were released.

Actually there is now quite good J saver rates on the SQ website. From BNE-SIN they are available most days from February to 21/6. A lso good numbers SIN-europe.

The problem with F saver awards is due to the fact that the number of Actual F seats has been reduced dramatically. A380 F seats now 6 against 12 previously. B777 still just 4 seats. On top of that not all aircraft have returned to service. It is just plain old supply and demand rather than any conspiracy at SQ.

where can i find what J saver and F class is ( First?)

For SQ rates on their website but on 5/7 the points will go up.
I haven't checked VA rates but I believe more points than SQ charge for saver rewards.

Points transfers returning from 19th July, transfer rate still unknown. Premium economy rewards can also be booked now.

There's also a new Singapore Airlines carrier charge inbound from October and the partner reward table is changing slightly for a few airlines, also from October. Economy will be slightly less, business will be slightly more, no change to PE or First/suites.

Ouch. So that's the catch for the Transfers returning, VFF and KF imposing carrier charges for bookings from October onwards, and per person.

So if booking 8 reward seats, multiply the charges by 8.

Although saying that, SQ/KF's carrier charges is still lower than secondary partner EY's charges for Business/First.

How is the carrier charge related to the transfers?

Well, if you leave points in VFF there will be new fees for booking on SQ, if you transfer to KF their will be a transfer rate TBA (possibly worse than original). To me, a new fee when booking on the VA side suggests the transfer rate to KF
will be poorer.

I haven't transferred points before, but is there an issue with holding points in either KF or VFF and then switching as needed? Or switching repeatedly? I also know KF points expire in 3 years, can you just transfer them out prior to that with no issues? And if you transferred them back, does that reset the 3 year expiry?

The main issue is that you'll lose points with each transfer. The ratio has never been 1:1 - the latest was 1.55 to 1 in either direction.
