Velocity reinstates Singapore Airlines redemptions

I have been trying to find a velocity redemption to Europe for my family on Singapore airlines for next year.

If you search for flights online from Sydney to London there are nothing but economy seats.

If you search for flights from Sydney to Singapore and then Singpore to London there are business class seats. There is just a big gap between flights. In other words, if you are willing to spend time at Changi airport then you are able to make the journey in Business. I was thinking of doing this then book a hotel at Changi.

Does anyone know what the best way to do this is or has anyone actually done it? Is it best to book both legs seperately or ring up to make the booking?

If you book them separately, they will be separate award tickets - so likely a higher rate than all the way through.

SQ use married segments. That is why you see different availability.

Thanks THR and Aikman for your thoughts. So am right in saying that if I ring up then the velocity team might be able to combine the two flights (say 9 hours apart) into a "married segment" and I would pay a lower rate / fees?

You can call but it is highly likely SQ won't show the availability and not permit them to be linked.

According to one of the frequent flyer websites, transfers between Velocity and SQ are about to be switched back on.

"While Rohrlach is hesitant to “commit to the exact date” on transfers taking place once again, he says “we’re definitely working as hard as we can on that because we know it’s really, attractive to out members… I’m pretty confident we'll have some good news soon.”

and

"Also coming back: the ability to use Velocity Points to book first class and premium economy seats on Singapore Airlines’ flights."
I hope this is true

If they're really keen to "strengthen" ties then Velocity Platinum access to the SilverKris lounge would be nice.

Air NZ Elite get it so don't see why it can't extend to VA

Isn't the author ex-ET?
I note on SQ website for Kris flyer reward redemption every flight says waitlisted - what does this mean? I guess self explanatory but EVERY flight i s like that ..

Sorry for any confusion
It was that the author of the Point Hacks article quoted used to be one of the main Executive Traveller authors

A quick question about booking Singapore airlines rewards on the Velocity site. Premium economy does not appear as an option. Only economy, business and first appears. Does anyone happen to know why this?

Velocity has only brought back economy and business rewards on Singapore Airlines so far.

There's a suggestion that Premium will be available again 'soonish' so if you're fine to wait they shouldn't be far off. i.e. it's not expected that they won't return or it's a long way off.

VA WP do get access to Silver Kris Lounges before an SQ flight. [edit] Other than in SIN where there is a separate *G lounge [/edit]

Shame there are not that many with most of those closed currently.

In Singapore they only get access to the Gold lounge which is of a poorer quality.
Yes, that is true - as with any other *G using status to obtain lounge access at Singapore.

I have clarified in my post.

It is only 9 Carat Gold.

Although it does have natural light, which the new F and TPR don't.

Look i'm not sure if i'll ever actually visit TPR to validate my thoughts (I was impressed by the new Silver Lounge on a few recent visits!) but it does seem a strange choice that the 'lesser' lounges get the better views.

How far in advance are SQ Award seats made available through Velocity? Looking at making a booking for early June 22 2023 and want to snap it up as soon as it becomes available.
