Velocity reinstates Singapore Airlines redemptions

As many know, booking SQ awards on SQ points you can 'hold' a confirmed award, as a PPS member I've been able to hold it for 6 months (until I could spend enough on a credit card to transfer enough points over!)

Usually it's book online, call-in to extend deadline. If you don't get it first time, HUACA

People say this...but I don't think it has ever been 100% the case...I honestly wouldn't expect it to be...all frequent flyer programs do this (make more space available to their own members than partner programs).
In fact, the opposite is sometimes true - i can often find J availability on Velocity that doesn't exist at all on Krisflyer (waitlist only). Having switched my points strategies from QFF to Velocity more recently, have been very impressed (which also says a lot about Qantas as much as it does Velocity)

Air Canada also sometimes has more availability than Singapore does for Singapore award flights. Sometimes Singapore will only have Advantage seats available, but Air Canada will be able to book them at their regular saver rate.

The pattern with Singapore is quite random.

It doesn't look like Velocity Frequent Flyer will be able to reinstate SQ First Class reward seats any time soon, as Singapore Airlines hasn't been releasing this availability to any partners since COVID.

In the meantime, you can still convert your Velocity points into KrisFlyer miles and book through KrisFlyer.

Is anyone seeing that award space for Singapore to any Australian port is zeroed out? Literally no availability for any month in the calendar.

Yup. Given this includes economy as well I'm sure its a temporary glitch.

I was looking up VA reward flights to Sri Lanka a few days ago and SQ has lots of award flights, including J rewards. I also looked up some flights to Italy and there were no SQ rewards. I think it really depends on the destination.

I was looking yesterday morning, lots of availability for Nov Syd-Sin. Now there is nothing that I can find, for any route.

It is just between SIN and Australia though...I can see normal availability on e.g. SIN-LHR.

I was checking SQ one-way economy award flights coming back BKK-SIN-BNE for Apr 2025 and found decent availability for dates I wanted.

31,500 miles per person + $120 surcharges

Checking Amex and I have just on 280,000 membership rewards points which was not enough.

I was checking Velocity account to make up difference and I found reward flights on some days for 31,000 Velocity points + $173 surcharges. Ended up booking that way instead.

Didn't realise Velocity had these sorts of discounts but availability not exactly the same as SQ.

ADL is a bit of a sweet spot
For J
SIN-ADL
KF miles 68k +$100
VA points 57k +$250
For Y
SIN-ADL
KF Miles 30k +$100
VA points 27k +$150
I recently booked April next year to Cambodia in J and found Adelaide to be the best available as well for the return: 67,000 and $385 with VA. 71,000 and $385 out of BNE isn't bad either when you consider I have to get to/from ADL from Qld anyway.

For flights where there are 4 saver business awards through KF but only 2 available through velocity, any chance that booking 2 with velocity might release another 2?

Try it and see, but I really doubt it. My experience of SQ is that they would rather fly with empty seats than bend their own rules.

Does Velocity get access to SQ's North American routes? I've been looking at J rewards space to the US (specifically SIN-JFK/EWR on the 359URL) and found some pretty decent rewards space on SQ (Saver/I Class). The spaces is availabel on both SQ's own website and Aeroplan but doesn't seem available on VA.

I know SQ does this to partners but I've always though VA is like NH/AC/AS where SQ opens some long-haul J rewards space. Doesn't seem like the case from my current search though. Not a big deal to cop the 1.55x exchange rate and transfer to SQ and book but would like to just get some clarity on what's available to VA and what's not.
