Velocity to partner with 7-Eleven

Got my first bonus points email

To celebrate you earning Velocity Points at 7-Eleven for the first time, we're giving you 50 bonus Points* on your next visit.

Am stuck at the 7 eleven Aust app, at date of birth section... bugger I had such high hopes for "success".
1969 not acceptable, and "oh no... something went wrong, when I try to go backwards.
I even tried to use the suggested date.
They have/the bot has gotten as far as confirming my email address, too, just dob is te hiccup.
Have password written down, and app on smar(tish) phone.
Is 7 eleven mobile checkout app the one we need, to add VA FF#?
Edit: this is not the app needed for the VA FF # points earning thingo.

I've installed the My 7-Eleven App from 7-Eleven Australia and it hasn't asked me for my date of birth - I'm using an Android phone. It doesn't mention "Checkout" in the App name, so perhaps you need a different 7-Eleven app?

Ah, tried typing play.google.com into google search on phone and its there.
Ta, Sodoer.
I used the phone's own app area, and none there was the one "we" need.
Will try the rigmarole again.
Wonder if it will accept me a "second" time.
Edit: bah humbug... as some have mentioned, the app we need is selective on what devices the app will accept, it does not approve of my phone, not compatible.
Thats the end of it for me.
Not buying a new phone for this.
Ok, back to normal.

The 7 11 didn't work/download on Mrs moo phone, yes cows have phones (hands free obviously).

Android system has to be minimum 9. Something from memory.
Oh well.

After wearing out my finger to get back to my birthday this app then tells me the supplied data is invalid.

Shove it

What moron wrote this app, which probably excludes 25-50% (my guess) of phones in Australia.

Not everyone rushes out to buy the latest iPhone or Samsung as soon as it's released (or do they?).

Doesn't say much for Velocity, does it?

Absolutely nowhere near that high, you don't need to have the latest phone to run it.

The app supports iOS 12 onwards which means support as far back as the iPhone 5S (2013) and covers 93% of the Australian iOS market, and Android 9.0 onwards which means support as far back as the Google Pixel (2016), Samsung Galaxy S8 (2017), etc, and covers 80% of the Australian Android market.

The mobile OS split in Australia is currently 55.42% iOS, 43.61% Android, 0.97% other - so the app won't work for 13.57% of Australian mobile users (including the 1% "other" who have virtually no app support whatsoever) and that number will drop off fairly quickly over the next 12 months as users replace their 5+ year old devices.

I think it's reasonable for them to not support Android 8.1 which will stop receiving security updates in the near future. There are several high and critical rated security vulnerabilities being discovered in 8.1 on a monthly basis which simply aren't getting patched anymore.

I guess it's all about maintaining the huge profits of Apple and Samsung.

Just as well I'm not forced to ditch my 5 year old car and buy a new one ....

The pace of technological change in the mobile device space is wildly different to that of a petrol engine car, not to mention the feasibility of repairing an $800 mobile device compared with a $30,000+ vehicle.

You can pick up a mobile for way way less than $800 that will run this app. Not made by Apple or Samsung either.

As a long time user of Motorola phones, you don't have to spend much to keep up to date. But, how much do you want to spend on maintaining security of your phone and possibly computer to avoid id theft etc?

For sure, just as you can pick up a car that will get you from A to B for way way less than $30k.

I was just attempting to make the point that repairing any $800 electronic item often costs too much in labour to be a viable option, it's cheaper in the long run to just replace it. In comparison spending $1000 to keep a 5 year old car on the road is much cheaper than replacing it.

It's based on the operating system not the phone.

For those who can use the app, it's great. Not just for earning Velocity points (and a decent earn rate at 2 points/$, but also for their specials and fuel lock. And the instant (or just about) transfer of points is brilliant.

And trying to link the worthiness of Velocity with an app which they have nothing to do with and which doesn't work for a only a small number of people that can't or won't update their operating system, is a reach.

Used the fuel lock offer 2 days ago..locked fuel at 126.9 cents per L in Brisbane where I was over the WE, and filled up my car at local Sydney 711 petrol station where fuel was 159.9 cents per L..and scored 711 bonus Velocity points as well :)
