Velocity to partner with 7-Eleven

Also the people complaining the app won't install on their device - you're using software that is waaaay out of date and has some pretty serious security vulnerabilities. Get yourself a cheap but up-to-date Nokia if you don't want to splurge on a Pixel or Galaxy

Pretty happy with this partnership so far. Got my 711 bonus points and saved $0.38 per litre on fuel using the fuel lock feature.
I'm a big fan too, love the Fuel Lock option,
When you drive away from your home, you can scan the area for fuel prices & if better you can lock in & fuel up near to home when car empty within a week,

Wonder if other servo's will / can adopt this. I find it very beneficial.
Will definitely use 7-11 Mobil fuel now over my previous main user in Shell.

Great win/get by Velocity on this one. So may points I got (like many I presume now), can only use internationally at some point.

Yep, there's no 7-11 fuel stops anywhere near me but there's a co-branded Mobil right near the airport so can easily wait and do a fuel up there.

Don't even need to be driving away from home! I lock mine on my train commute into the Sydney CBD.. there are a couple in range around Burwood-Ashfield station that are consistently 30c below the competition.

Brisbane is currently on the up cycle (around $1.85/L for 95) but I've locked in at $1.37. Looking forward to going to a $1.85 station just to see the discount applied!

Locked in a price a few days ago right as everywhere was skyrocketing. Filled up yesterday when the price was 46c/L higher than my locked in price. Points, including 711 bonus points in the velocity account this morning.

Very impressed.

Well, despite all this wonderful stuff, I'm not racing out to buy a new phone.

My phone (and my partner's Samsung S7) work admirably on 99% of apps that we would want to use, and until that changes, 7-11 won't be one of our preferred retailers.

Not the end of the world, but Woolies petrol stations can rest easy.

Part of the reason why they're quite restrictive about what devices can run the app is because of the fuel lock feature.

If you've got the technical know-how, then it's possible to spoof your GPS location and lock in prices from other areas of Australia that may be at vastly different points in their fuel cycles.

By locking down to newer models where it's actually harder to spoof a GPS location they can prevent some of that behaviour.

So when you have a fuel lock, do you have to tell the attendant that you have a fuel lock before paying? (Just reading the FAQs where it says you must do that).

I would have thought that scanning your card would update the total automatically.

No. Just scan you 7 11 card on the app before paying...the discount will be added automatically :)

I went on Gumtree, then paid $50 for an old iPhone, just to use this 7-11 app. The iPhone sits on the desk at home, I only switch it on once a week to lock price using 7-11 app.

To give you an example, my car uses LPG, and the cheapest LPG in my area in Sydney right now is 79.9 (using NSW govt fuel check), but it's only 65.4 in Malvern. If I need to full my car up right now, I would quickly fly REX to Melbourne carrying my $50 iPhone from Gumtree, go to Malvern, lock in 65.4, fly back to Sydney on REX again, and fill 50L of LPG into my car, which translates to a saving of 14.5c per L = $7.25 savings for this fill, or 32.7% off. I just need to fill my car 7 times to recover the cost of this iPhone, then I'm getting 30% off every fill. 😄

Can I just say, its a con/cop out, for both VFF and 7 Eleven.
Its not all equal for everyone sort of an offer/deal, its quite/very selective, not an even playing field.
There are no 7 Elevens stores in South Australia, so that means effectively, a certain part of the Aust population, can't/are not able to participate, even if they wanted to.
Also, a person must have a modern(ish) smart phone to participate, ie, those with the very basic mobile, can't participate either, ie, below Android version 9 can't participate.

Maybe they did their best to match the number of actual BP stations in SA :)
