Brisbane VA lounge is the worst culprit, time and time again - can't even log on!

As usual site was throwing up errors this morning and just generally being a pain.

As a result I booked 2 x MEL-OOL on JQ - I just can't stomach their website.

Had that experience in SYD last Friday...the password / T&Cs page just will not load...in any browser.

PER lounge wasn't much better on Tuesday night - extremely slow speeds, and kept getting logged off. The lounge was extremely busy though, so probably a heavy load on the server.

Trying to use the Velocity booking engine over the past two or three days and presented with this error. Any ideas?

Re: Velocity/Virgin websites are ........

This crazy s""" is still going on!!
I'd like to book a flight.

Can anyone confirm that they are getting to the flights screen, thus proving it is a problem my end?

Thanks

Did you try going to the VA website, logging into Velocity there, then use the Book A Flight box from the home page, but select "Use Points Plus Pay"?

That's how I search for and book Velocity award flights.

This shouldn't be a procedure one should need to adopt to give a business money. They clearly have an issue but refuse to fix because either A; the have no money to fix it, or B; they don't give a cough and continue to treat their customers with contempt. either way, if they wanted to fix it they would have done so years ago. I understand that things happen with computers and websites sometimes break, however, theirs has never really worked and has been a half baked effort from the start. Very poor effort from a business who relies very heavily on the customer using their website to give them money. Im so amazed this is still going on 5 years after they had their big "Game change"

Well I wish your revelation was more or less true, because that would mean there would be a lot more seats available to redeem online!

As it seems, there are enough mugs who are smart enough to know how to book them (and I assume without having to contact the call centre) that finding award seats at any odd given time remains at least a moderate undertaking.

Plus, I just saw an ad on TV the other day with Velocity crowing their winning the award for best award seat availability in Australia, "so your points are even more valuable for getting you to where you want to go."

Re: Velocity/Virgin websites are ........

Alright, so just gave Reward Flight searching a go.

If you access the "Book A Flight" via the VFF home page (i.e. go to the "Redeem" menu), you'll get the 401 error as shown above. Very odd page they seem to be trying to point to for that frame.

If you go to the VA home page, then log into VFF using the link in the top right, then use the Book A Flight box on the left hand side of the home page, but tick "Use Points+Pay", you will be able to see reward seats and prices etc.

What is odd is that when I get to the fare matrix on the next page, the system doesn't appear to recognise that I am logged into VFF, i.e. I see the two boxes for VFF# and password on the right hand side, whereas if it had recognised my login it should show my name and points balance.

I didn't follow through with a booking to check whether I'd have to log in again, but that's still all weird.

Also, at least once when I was doing lots of dummy inputs on the VA home page for reward seat searches, I'd get a 405 error (Apache return error page). Since this is not a consistent error, I wonder what is going on there.

So what you are saying is that their site is cough and broken?

Sorry, there are no excuses after so many years. The only clear thing is that they need to pay someone some decent coin to fix / rebuild from scratch the abomination of a website. Any wonder they are losing money, they make it difficult to even book flights.

Add to that i just looked out of curiosity BNE-MEL for November. Qantas 165. Va 195. Yeah right, VA have birdseed and a thimble of water i know, but i just have to slum it in qf, enjoying a more comfortable seat, an actual meal onboard and saving 30pp each way.

Re: Velocity/Virgin websites are ........

I think the Sabre rollout was all about fixing the back end to get the travel agents on board. As I understand that was somewhat successful.

Same for me. I have been VA loyal for years, but to be honest they just annoy me now! Was booking a trip to SYD next Feb and as usual just went to VA site. Was about to pull the trigger when I thought I'll just price compare with QF. $310 return on VA...$230 return on QF. It's the first time I've booked QF with my own coin for a looooong time, but I sense it won't be the last!

Re: Velocity/Virgin websites are ........

I know I said I wouldn't fly VA again, but their fares have pulled me in, they have just brought in another million seat sale.

Likewise for me. I did MEL-BNE-MEL the other day and QF was $40 cheaper each way. The VA website has been a joke for years and nearly makes the SQ website look like a beautiful thing.

The only use I have for VA these days is somewhere to store my points.. that's of course if you can find a seat/get the website working properly.

I have had 7xx_ odd VA points, and just made a booking, MEL - ADL and paid only about $45 or something, and the payment went through ok.
Checked my card after it, and the $45 or so is sitting in the authorised part of my banking internet section.
So with me, VA seems to be ok, as far as the booking and paying for a seat side is concerned.
Wasn't a reward redemption at 6900 points though.
Edit: You won't get the 401 error if you go to www.virginaustralia.com and enter that way, instead of following the million seat sale link.

Re: Velocity/Virgin websites are ........

I have booked numerous award seats over the past two years using the velocity site - no hassles.
All of a sudden, in the past few weeks i'm getting the weird error and I cant get through to flight awards other than the workaround listed on last few pages.
That's why I posted

Re: Velocity/Virgin websites are ........

This 401 auth error still occurring today. Should I be shocked? Either it can't be fixed, or they don't know about it, both very ordinary situations to be in.

They'd know about it. VFF can't be trusted with any high value of points IMHO. The only way of accessing my VFF account is the work around that anat0l mentioned so I intend now to transfer all remaining points out of VFF. It may be nothing, but it's a risk that worries me a tad.
