Vinomofo Wine Deals

I've come on here to weight into the debate about revealing these secret deals.
First of all, I am quite amused how Vinomofo get their back up about revealing these "black market" deals, when their own site, probably a result of a failure in their own system actually reveal the wines to you to confirm suspicions.

Exhibit A: Fox Gordon 'Eight Uncles' Barossa Shiraz 2013 - Red Wine

The other thing is, if you didn't want people to know, why give so much information about the wine in the first place?

The other problem I have is people like "redbigot" hanging around this forum, which by the way I think is great forum, and then having the nerve to extract information and then charge people for it on a yearly basis.

It's all very quiet on this wine front.
Got myself a case of Poonawatta 1880 last evening (free freight). Strange that earlier in the day it was shown as "Sold Out"?

Any ideas on current offers:
1. BLACK MARKET DEAL Pinot Noir 2012 Adelaide Hills not $50 but $15
2. BLACK MARKET DEAL Shiraz 2011 South Australia not $65 nut $19.50

jason you have really been on the splurge lately haven't you....the weather is now becoming very red wine friendly so enjoy.

I disagree. Redbigot was running before this thread started and looking at the educated guesses on here and those on Redbigot they can be poles apart. Redbigot is rarely wrong. As someone who's a member of both my opinion is that there has been way more info surreptitiously shared from Redbigot on here than the other way around. YMMV

It's addictive. I haven't even try all the wines that arrived before "scratching the itch" again.
Cannot resist the urge to bag a bargain.

Redbigot existed even before Vinomofo although not in it's current form of paid subscription.
With his knowledge and all the resources (wine books, search engines (need payment)) I doubt he came here for "answers".
However once in a while he make an appearance with some appropriate comments.

BTW I missed "The Other Red Bigot" (Torbwine).

Totally agree, if I want an educated guess Ill be going to redbigot, if I want uninformed gossip then I can be sure some here and some other sites will provide.

RB has been doing this way longer than this forum exists, indeed as far as I can tell he is only recently aware this site exists, indeed he is concerned that people on his site may be posting here!

Perhaps the Tomich Icons of Woodside 1777 Pinot Noir? Price match and it is under cork. Could not find the % alcohol though, nor the Halliday rating. Any other suggestions, anyone?

I'm very confident that's it. They had the Tomich Woodside Sav B as a black market a week back which i got. Very Nice.

Has anyone tasted the Tomic pinot, this or a recent vintage? 90 Halliday points and 13% alc aren't inspiring confidence. But if it's good quaffer quality or better and only $15 then might be worth a look?

For lateral thinkers, think of a view from a church in margaret river and a name for a toilet......how wild could this be?

Any ideas on this one? - mof_ SECRET Deal Shiraz 2011 - Red Wine
They're making it hard to guess by withholding the alcohol & cellar date.

This was on Feb 26 and still around. If I remember correctly someone suggested Seppeltsfield or Kellermeister but NOT confirmed.
Looks like no one from here bought this.

I just wouldn't buy it with such little information available. Especially given its a 2011.

People who dismiss 2011 are missing out on some good wine. If you talk to the winemakers they will tell you it wasnt a bad year, but a difficult one. No winemaker is going to release a poor wine, and we've had some absolute gems with 2011 on the label.

I didn't dismiss it. What I said was I wouldn't buy that wine, if Vinomofo refused to supply enough details. Especially as it was a 2011 vintage which has been widely recognized as a poor vintage in the area. I too have some great bottles from 2011. But many of the wines from that year just aren't worth buying when there's still so many great opportunities from 2010 and 2012 available currently.

But I certainly cannot agree with this statement 'No winemaker is going to release a poor wine'. The reality is that many winemakers just can't afford to skip a vintage just because it is poor.
