Vinomofo Wine Deals

The other problem I have is people like "redbigot" hanging around this forum, which by the way I think is great forum, and then having the nerve to extract information and then charge people for it on a yearly basis.

It's more likely the other way round.
I seldom visit here (only here today as a subscriber alerted me to some posts here) and I and my subscribers do our own research...
We often have the wine identified and posted on my Forum within 5-10 minutes of the email landing or tweet from VM.
If you aren't a subscriber to my site you have no idea how it works and what resources we use, but it's not from here.

PS The fee is to keep out the riff-raff, it works pretty well.
PPS If people weren't getting value they wouldn't keep renewing and participating, since 2008 when I started charging a fee.

VM never threatened to shut anything down, and I totally understand their point of view in terms of suppliers. I'd be interested to see what their views on RedBigot (no, this isn't a dig at RedBigot, I'm just interested) as it is a private forum that charges for membership (that I'm considering signing up to shortly!).

We have a reasonable relationship with VM, I and my members buy a lot of wine from them. They have asked me in the past not to post details of wines on public forums like Twitter, Ozbargain etc and I now generally only post the identities of the wines on my own members-only Forum. I've had no complaints from them for a very long time now.

Catch 22
So Vinomofo are lurking on this page I wonder if they are also looking at the Redbigot, begs the question who else is lurking on these pages.

VM used to have a membership to my site, but that lapsed and I don't know if they have one now I don't know about.
Just about every VM (and other merchant) mystery wines are very quickly (often under 10 minutes if there is enough info) identified by me or some of my members and posted on my Forum.
But they haven't complained to me and we have communicated many times in the past.
They tolerate small private sites/forums like mine a lot more than public forums and I and my subscribers buy a LOT of wine from them.
There is some truth that wide dissemination of the details of mystery wines may affect their ability to get future deals.
But there is still a big glut of wine and many wineries of all sizes looking to move stock quietly, some amazing bargains amongst them, and a few duds.

Sounds similar to this site.

Good some common ground between wine enthusiasts who pursue the same thing. Good wine at good prices. I think if we pour another glass and rise above rumour and innuendo we all profit. I have been a member of Vinomofo since day one and have purchased over $30,000 of wine from them (yes the zeros are correct) I am also a member of RBG and a happy camper. Its kinda like if you haven't tasted a grange you shouldn't give a review of a grange. I personally haven't so i'll leave it alone. I don't think vinomofo would begrudge me a little help from a private forum.

Yeah, plenty of people with access to the various review sites etc.
Some are dead easy to identify.
It's the ones where there is little info that are the challenge.
And like this site, mine has lots more interaction on topics not related to VinoMofo, but mostly wine-related.

Yes I am pretty sure it has a rating on vivino so it could be just released. 6pk vs 12pk, I have had plenty of wines from VM that were sold as 12 but came in 2x sixers. And yes it is exported overseas.

Not Langmeil.
This was identified by one of my members at about 1:30 yesterday (5 May), a tricky one, I couldn't work it out.

Not Langmeil? How was this 'identified' with absolute certainty? Unless you have insider info? A lot added up, a few came to the same conclusion. That is ok, will have a bottle and if it is not up to scratch, back it goes! :)

Oh, do tell? Which wineries and how have I or my site caused damage? Since you are not a subscriber you have no idea what is on the members-only part of my site/forum.
I and my members support and have good relationships with many small producers.
And what are you setting out to do that is any different?

Sound like the sort of unsubstantiated rumours that people who are starting their own business and want to spread some dirt to me.

You have my vote (as subscriber to both sites)!

Definite identification, we have our ways and means, a lot of resourceful members beavering away. I ordered a case, expect it to be good at that price. But as you say VM returns policy is a big safety net.

Hah, that made me laugh! Yes, it's quite possible some people do have inside info but do you seriously expect people to advertise that they do in a public forum. Specifically to do it when it's likely that they have been asked not to!

so you bought it ?? i hope it works out well for you and i am absolutely sure you will like it....you shouldn't be sending this one back

Thanks Steve. ;)

No problem, I regard the subscription as money extremely well spent. And there is something about your site, maybe it's being a paid site, but I have a high regard for everyone's integrity and everyone contributes.

Not saying that most are not great here too but amongst that there are a few spongers who take and don't give much back. And they are the ones who seem to imagine the worst of others, maybe it's a transferral thing!

Didn't you also think it was the Langmeil? Yeah I had a crack :) Well a bit disappointed it isn't the Langmeil, but if Red B bought it and he knows what it is, it should be ok.

Precisely. There has been almost nil moderation intervention required since the Forum was implemented in 2010. And it's now the most active wine forum in Australia despite a relatively small membership.

i am very impressed with the moolah you have spent on VM. No doubt you have saved at least one and a half times that amount, which is big bickies...Seriously, how many botts do you drink weekly as this is an incredible investment. My wife thought i was bad after I kept telling her you can't take it with you, but thomas, how are you going to drink that much ??? the good dr.r. himself said that he had enough till about 2026, so what's your estimate?

as far as some bloke called red is concerned, why the bleeding angst on some punter who loves wine? who gives a cracker that he charges for homework...plenty of folk are benefiting on getting quality product at a discount. what the %&*% is wrong with that everyone ? this bloke red is being diplomatic with everyone and is quite nice in his responses. he shouldn't have to be ! and i don't know him from adam..

It seems you are humored easily, not sure what was so funny. Yeah, I honestly wanted him to name names, give up all his secrets....*facepalm*

Had the Arturo 2014 Shiraz turn up yesterday and I like to try one to gauge what I think it'll become. I'm sorry but first impression was its a Barry Crocker and have organised a return. I like my Heathcote Reds but not like this.
