Vinomofo Wine Deals

Had the Arturo 2014 Shiraz turn up yesterday and I like to try one to gauge what I think it'll become. I'm sorry but first impression was its a Barry Crocker and have organised a return. I like my Heathcote Reds but not like this.
it sure as hell isn't traditional, but it's very funky.

i am very impressed with the moolah you have spent on VM. No doubt you have saved at least one and a half times that amount, which is big bickies...Seriously, how many botts do you drink weekly as this is an incredible investment. My wife thought i was bad after I kept telling her you can't take it with you, but thomas, how are you going to drink that much ??? the good dr.r. himself said that he had enough till about 2026, so what's your estimate?

as far as some bloke called red is concerned, why the bleeding angst on some punter who loves wine? who gives a cracker that he charges for homewofk...plenty of folk are benefiting on getting quality product at a discount. what the %&*% is wrong with that everyone ? this bloke red is being diplomatic with everyone and is quite nice in his responses. he shouldn't have to be ! and i don't know him from adam..

My wife and I consume approx 5 bottles a week between us and friends (Pinot Noir (me) and Semillon (her) mainly and some cellared shiraz cab etc. I expect my cellar to exceed 2026 and am already winding down my purchases. The only consolation is a good friend of mine's father who is 94 stopped buying wine at 80 and had 3500 bottles in the cellar, He finished the last bottle a month ago and then went to a retirement home. Impeccable timing. Vinomofo is only 75% of my cellar and RBG has opened new horizons for me (quick plug). I was clearing out my old dads cellar recently and cracked a 1966 bottle of red wine from portugal (not a word of english on the bottle) and I was floored by its brilliance. Incredible. Then I thought surely someone will finish off the last of my cellar and raise a glass to me hopefully.

funky as in lively fruit, a great medium palate, tannins evident but easy drinking. unique quite obviolusly, can't help but think they threw something else in there at undisclosed under fifteen per center....while i was drinking it, i thought that it tasted like purple--odd, but still a very nice wine but definately not for the purists. they say the way to temper a big cat is to throw some merlot in there. straight from the horses mouth so nothing surprises. for the dollars, the arturo is eminently drinkable.

Oh, do tell? Which wineries and how have I or my site caused damage? Since you are not a subscriber you have no idea what is on the members-only part of my site/forum.
I and my members support and have good relationships with many small producers.
And what are you setting out to do that is any different?

Mate, I'm not to say anymore because I don't want to detract from your site as it is. If it's as great as it is you can let your subscribers speak for themselves and no need for you to come and be defensive about it. ;)

I just don't agree with charging people for information that's already available online. But kudos to you for making a service that works and people that are happy to subscribe to it. What I'm doing is for friends so it's a different target audience and it's something I do for fun anyway.

/edit: Hell when I started this thread inadvertently, I posted for fun and didn't expect it to grow as big as it did. I just enjoy people sharing stuff!

Good some common ground between wine enthusiasts who pursue the same thing. Good wine at good prices. I think if we pour another glass and rise above rumour and innuendo we all profit. I have been a member of Vinomofo since day one and have purchased over $30,000 of wine from them (yes the zeros are correct) I am also a member of RBG and a happy camper. Its kinda like if you haven't tasted a grange you shouldn't give a review of a grange. I personally haven't so i'll leave it alone. I don't think vinomofo would begrudge me a little help from a private forum.

If I am with VM and seeing this post a Grange is on the way. ;)

So posting derogatory/defamatory throwaway lines is a bit of fun for you?

I'm a pretty small cog in a very big machine, I have some small influence in some areas, but nothing like the power to "cause damage to wineries", many of them are their own worst enemies when it comes to pricing, marketing etc., that's how their wines end up on VinoMofo.

My site started way back in the late 90's in similar fashion, I was doing the research for myself and decided to share it for free to anyone. It grew from there.
The fee was initially $12 and implemented so I could see who was using the site, about a quarter of the subscribers still pay that amount, another 10% have free memberships.
I'm retired, the site is a hobby, not a business.

You don't seem to understand that sometimes access to good information in a timely fashion has a value far greater than the small cost.

And not all of it is "already available online", you might be surprised at how much isn't.
And you get the value added of my opinion and those of other members, some in the industry, many knowledgeable in aspects of wine that I am not, including imports.
And two regular tasting groups in Melbourne and Sydney have formed via the interactions on the forum.
I could go on a while, but you aren't interested, and that's fine by me, I don't need any more subscribers.

beefarmer has given you enough info to identify the wine in that cryptic post.

Maybe enough clues to solve the puzzle but I am very very slow.
By the time I come out with a solution, it's no longer available or sold out.

But I like his hints about the Churchview recently, "in the loo looking out" :)

It might come back, this one maybe not.
Deals are like buses, there is always another one coming, sometimes a long wait and then they all come at once.

"Slow" people are welcome on my site, there are enough fast ones there to help out.

I was a lurker to your then unpaid site since way way back.
I am very slow and still mulling on joining since then. That's me. :)

Call and ask if they have any still?

Seven years! Don't wait too long, I might retire at the next level and shut it all down. :p

The other half would like it to, to keep me from any more bargain purchases.
Goodness know the many things I needed to do I promised her.

Just out of curiosity was the "Wild Witch" offer in Jan from the winery?

I thought we all agreed to give up being cryptic (after the Amelia Park rubbish) on this site and just state what the wine was if we knew what it was?
