Vinomofo Wine Deals

The other half would like it to, to keep me from any more bargain purchases.
Goodness know the many things I needed to do I promised her.

Just out of curiosity was the "Wild Witch" offer in Jan from the winery?

I don't think the site has caused any divorces yet, but it's been close a few times and some people leave so they won't be tempted to spend too much.

Yes, the Wild Witch was from the winery, I sent the first delivery back as they advertised screwcaps and sent cork-sealed, screwcapped version re-sent without any real hassle.

Did you get some of the Saltram #1 Shiraz 2010 @ $49?

I got a case but not from VM but from Winemarket and $10 less due to frequent extra incentives.
This #1 is available at much much less than the $100rrp everywhere, Costco $67 and now DM free for $170 purchase.
Looks like Treasury is pushing very hard to offload stocks.

So posting derogatory/defamatory throwaway lines is a bit of fun for you?

I'm a pretty small cog in a very big machine, I have some small influence in some areas, but nothing like the power to "cause damage to wineries", many of them are their own worst enemies when it comes to pricing, marketing etc., that's how their wines end up on VinoMofo.

My site started way back in the late 90's in similar fashion, I was doing the research for myself and decided to share it for free to anyone. It grew from there.
The fee was initially $12 and implemented so I could see who was using the site, about a quarter of the subscribers still pay that amount, another 10% have free memberships.
I'm retired, the site is a hobby, not a business.

You don't seem to understand that sometimes access to good information in a timely fashion has a value far greater than the small cost.

And not all of it is "already available online", you might be surprised at how much isn't.
And you get the value added of my opinion and those of other members, some in the industry, many knowledgeable in aspects of wine that I am not, including imports.
And two regular tasting groups in Melbourne and Sydney have formed via the interactions on the forum.
I could go on a while, but you aren't interested, and that's fine by me, I don't need any more subscribers.

I think what people easily forget is that running a website costs money. Hosting fees, software license fees etc.

Any thoughts on today's WA Cab Sauv? Only a few 2012 WA Cab Sauvs got 95 at the Sydney Wine Show, and none that seem to be priced at $50...

And thats the thing. Before I discovered RB I was doing this research myself, but it could take considerable time to search out good buys. My time is worth way more than that to me!

And as noted not all easily available, while a fair percentage of my wine is from VM an equal size chunk is not and I simply wouldnt have known without RB's site. On pure value for money the big winners you remember for years were not easily found, in fact I doubt I would have even known they were there to look for them.

But I also agree with RB's final comment, a tight knit and small group is good, we have already seen signs that VM's success may already be impacting its ability to get the wines really cheap! I have seen a few sites come and go for exactly this reason.

Cracked two bottles last night that just arrived.
Tomich Woodside Sauv Blanc 2014 - verrrry pale, almost like water in the glass but it is really nice, very quaffable, and very refreshing. Nice bit of citrus about it. Loving the Adelaide Hills atm, if only it was still summer. Went beautifully with some home cooked Indonesian spicy sambal chicken off the BBQ.
Maverick Twins GSM 2013 - glad I jumped on this train, thanks to all who recommended it! Yum berries, nice and full bodied, finishes a lot smoother than its VM price would suggest. One of my favourite bargains so far, and I still have 11 bottles. /fist pump

Still trying to decide on the Devil's Lair. I've had it in and out of my basket a few times now.

I was eagerly awaiting the first opinion of the Maverick 2013, thanks for sharing :)

Thanks. Works. Bought the Spanish "Mouthful" red for $95.
A change from OZ red.
Good review overseas and Robert Parker 94 pts.

I was going to do the same, but cork puts me off a little...plus the budget going a few 100 over for this month already doesn't help.

Cork is fine provided it's not cheap and coughpy quality cork.
Also easily finished and not cellared for years.
