Just got home and very anxious to try the latest.....the 3oceans 'the explorers' shiraz 2013 from w.a....all I can say is, without food in you, this is a serious one. Nothing like the sweet barossans, this is leaner, drier, medium to full, lovely fruit driven, all those adjectives on the bottle are there, and it is very impressive. At the price, about $12, ridiculous value. I chatted to someone from Bright today who was a VM customer. We talked about quality, and price points. He gets his VM broker to recommend wines under a tenner. I would like to say that spending two to five bucks extra sometimes really rewards. This is a case in point. However, I will diversify as the third glass kicks in.....allow me to gather my thoughts because I think there is another you should all buy.......... I don't want to appear as a spruiker for VM, rather a spruiker for quality at a bargain price. This note is really about one wine from west oz, the Harewood 2012 shiraz cabernet, that sits there for sale. Like you, never heard of them. Like you, I do a bit of research before a purchase, and if it smells like a duck, it will be a duck. I shot of an email to the winery, and I am very satisfied to report that I hit the buy button four hours ago. After my concerns about the wine were put at ease. those concerns are always the same - has it enough weight and carry, has it character, longevity etc. Just buy some I suggest. I have no interest in the winery whatsoever, don't know the bloke from Adam, but what I do know is that in the last few months, west oz has thrown up Amelia park, sandalford, 3oceans, churchview and now this harewood...good luck for those punters who buy, and I look forward to the first critique, probably next Wednesday or thusrday night. Just poured another top up of the 3oceans, and my final comment is....a stunning wine, one that really opens up with air....8.4
