Not sure the Glenlofty Shiraz 2012 is for the long haul. I've just gone back to a bottle I opened on Friday night, and its all tea like tannins and not much else. I'd be recommending drink it now, drink it fresh.

An interesting one this. Could be the year, although generally 2012 was good up there. Also, Huon Hooke gives some of the Blue Pyrenees shirazes 20 years in the bot. It does raise an issue or two, but since we are on the case, has anyone had examples of slightly too acidic pinot noirs that have come good years down the track after cellaring? Wines do soften eventually, but this is a specific, Adelaide hills pinot, query.

I don't think it will benefit a whole lot from extended ageing, but I don't think it will degrade any with a few years on it. I drank one bottle, but I'd also be leaving a few bottles for a while to see how they go.

Anyone might know what this cab might be? It's restocked so I tried to search on this forum but couldn't come up with anything...

If you put in Cabernet 2010 into the search box, it's the first result... (not to mention the second, third, fourth, fifth ;))

Any opinions on the Erin Eyes 2015 Riesling? I have never tried anything from this winery (nor heard of it to be honest!).

You must have a better/different search box to the one I have.

AnonymousCoward - do you mind showing us novices how you go about your searches? I am also struggling to use the search function, and am guessing there are a few tips that will help us get to the result (and keep the more obvious questions to a minimum).

Many thanks in advance.

My apologies - it seems I put something else in - not what I quoted. I usually start by just putting in the VM description: "mof_ SECRET DEAL Cabernet Sauvignon 2010" in this case. Then browse the results - this one looks promising:

If too many matches, put in a few more parameters, e.g. price, region. Once I have a one or a couple of candidates, just search for that wine. In this case, putting in Sandalford Cabernet 2010 brings up a bunch of posts that confirm matches (JH points, price, region etc.)

There are two parts to acidity in wine, the ph and the total acidity.

To further complicate things there are different types of acid present in various amounts and malo-lactic fermentation alters the mix more.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acids_in_wine

The particular combination of ph and mix of other acids is what makes a particular wine taste acidic, sour, tart etc.

As wine ages the total acidity doesn't change much.
"During the aging process, the perception of a wine's acidity may change even though the total measurable amount of acidity is more or less constant throughout a wine's life. This is due to the esterification of the acids, combining with alcohols in complex array to form esters. In addition to making a wine taste less acidic, these esters introduce a range of possible aromas. Eventually the wine may age to a point where other components of the wine (such as a tannins and fruit) are less noticeable themselves, which will then bring back a heightened perception of wine acidity."

They had Trapeze Pinot a few months back. And in the past they've had the 6 foot 6 Pinot which went gangbusters when it was offered! I think they also still have the Phi hanging around which they can't get rid of.

how was the 6 foot 6?

they also had yering station (black market) around the same time which i bought, but missed last horizon and riorret (de bortoli) last year

Wozza..just logged....i passed on it but got the quickly sold hawsburn 2011 from new Zealand......i think a better philosophy could be to get a six pack at 15-20dollars

i missed the hawksburn the last couple of times - what's it like?

That's right. It wasn't a Tassie wine - it was the NZ Ant Moore.

If they included the Ant Moore, the Phi, the Trapeze, the 6 Foot 6, the Petaluma and the Duck Sauce, I would be very tempted. I doubt they would offer that pack for $99, so I am guessing it would be 5 cheap ones and one (reasonably) expensive one to seal the deal.

in the meantime, have you checked out any of the pinot noirs at http://www.mywineguy.com.au using MYAMEXWINES50 to save $50 if you spend $200 (code ends today)?

otherwise, hoddles creek is generally considered one of the best value around and often sells out within a few months

Based on your report, I've cracked open that case and popped one into the fridge. Will open sometime this week to see if mine are in the same condition.

Finally got around to opening this. Definitely a different taste - something like Sauvignon Blanc. The label says best drinking between 2013 and 2015, so whilst I don't think it's cork taint (it appears to be sealed with one of those remanufactured corks - brand name escapes me) it might be past its best. Will try another shortly.
