Not sure how this is going to work in practise, but I'd add:

* Type of deal (black market, etc.)
* URL when posted (can be handy to refer back to) ... could just be the funky bit

Might also consider splitting winery and wine.

Why does the type of deal matter? The purpose is just to identify a wine.
The links don't work after the deal expires, so I'm not sure what benefit we get having a bunch of links to "this deal has expired" pages on the VM site

Re: Consolidate VM Deals List

Not wanting to knock the idea but would think the problem here would be maintenance of this table, who is being proposed as the person to maintain this?

If it was set up as a Google Doc, the person who identified (or confirmed) the wine could edit the document, adding the newest one at the top of the list. No need to delete things since they often re-appear (ultimately the list MIGHT get too big, cull periodically?).

Potential issue - we've heard that the mof_s read this thread so they might take to editing the document ...

I'm happy to edit a single post of mine to list wines I see identified. It might not be comprehensive, but should (hopefully) stem some of the "what wine is this?" questions. I think the "date offered" column proposed by Dr Ralph would be useful - we can cull anything over, say, 6 months old.

I am getting the hard sell from my new found friend at the Fo - aka Sarah the broker - regarding the Squid Ink. I am guessing nobody has taken delivery of this yet or tried it. Opinions from my dear wine enthusiasts? It's $60 a bottle at the Fo price, so needs to be a serious wine for me to jump on a 6 pack at that price.

Mine has arrived today. But being the careful character that I am I will probably let it age for a while before I open one. 24 hours should be adequate I think.

What do you mean when you say edit?

I believe that after 24 hours only a mod can change/edit a post - happy to be corrected

I would vote for a medium that isn't going to get indexed and turn up in search engine results. Something that requires a login. I'd reckon it's in everyone's interests to be a little bit circumspect. Ultimately wineries will opt for other ways of dumping excess stock if their RRPs are so transparently made a laughing stock of.

Fine I'll shut up then. Good luck with your little project.

It's an absolute disgrace that someone can suggest that this is a forty dollar pinot. It upsets me a lot that I have tried both their Woodside range and the i-777 and they are both superior. Yet the labelling on today's one says 'the very best'. What a fiasco. It has some fruit, it has some mild acidity, but it lacks depth, it lacks character, it just gets over the line in terms of body and the finish does nothing to draw in another glass. Incredibly disappointed and it will be going back. It tastes like a thirteen bucker, which would not be too far away as someone previously mentioned about their ten bucker. Sure it's a tricky grape to grow, but the marketing department needs a good discussion about where this Reserve pinot should really stand in their catalogue of wines.

Got my Tomich Reserve Pinot today (took 20 days). Have already emailed to return. I couldn't even finish 1 glass. The description sounded like my perfect wine. I can't quite nail the problem as i think its a few. Here Goes 1/ So focussed on structure they forgot the fruit. 2/ Tannins are unripe 3/ Fruit is underripe and almost hidden by acidity. If it was processed at 13.5 to 14% abv the acid would hardly be noticeable as the ripe fruit would balance it out perfectly and it would cellar really well. They tried to make an Ata Rangi in the wrong country and climate. I tried straight and decanted and aerated. A few years in the cellar would mellow it but it can't magically make the fruit appear. IMHO. I think I will steer clear of these cheap pinots from VM and hunt down real premium elsewhere.

I like the idea - my take on the structure would be to do it by the actual wine. Name every confirmed wine by producer, varietal, region, vintage, JH points, RRP etc and then have a box saying if it is currently on VM or not with the link to it if it is. If in MS excel you can have a column for date last offered and can sort by that to find current deals that are confirmed.

I'm just asking "why?" - please don't take it as a personal attack - it's not intended that way.

If you have a reason why this information would be useful, then please share. Just stating "we should do x" doesn't help - it's just creates work for the maintainer if there's no actual benefit to capturing that information

You can certainly restrict signon to a Google Doc but then someone has to take responsibility for that (including resetting passwords etc.).

Re: Consolidate VM Deals List

i'm going to be pissed if ya'll ruin vinomofo by exposing all their dank deals.
So let me get this right, the main reason you joined this site was so you could get access to the information others offer, but you now want to restrict that information?

And you offer a suggestion of how to rort Vinomofo but don't think that may ruin Vinomofo deals?

Have to say this forum has traditionally not been too kind to those who's idea of sharing is to share with them only. We all recognise there is a threat that if we share this could lead to deals being shut down but its just in our nature to share.

Yes, there are certainly drawbacks. My main concern is that a record of every date each wine was offered would mean plenty of people would easily discover in a web search (just looking for reviews, say), that certain wines are offered frequently enough at a 60% discount through VM that you'd be a complete mug to buy them from, say Dan Murphy's. So then that winery has trouble selling their wine through DM the next year. Perhaps omitting the dates and just keeping one record for each wine is the answer. After all, the objective is just to ease identification of whatever's on at any given time really, right? Here, we could just say, "yeah I think today's shiraz looks like row 54 in the spreadsheet is back again". :)

haha Yeah i obviously agree with the sharing, but you can't make it tooo easy for people.
You do realise you're the third result google gives when you google "vinomofo deals", every secret deals pretty much been revealed in the back pages but at least people have to look a bit, a public google doc a few clicks away may be too easy.
