Vinomofo Wine Deals

Pretty sure they gave advance access to all members on Thursday. Also aren't these 'big' Friday sales pretty much a once a month bin end sale? Probably limited quantities of most stuff.

There seems to be quite a lot more on today than there was yesterday actually, at least in the reds section of the site. About 36 wines there (and only two of them showing as sold out right now), and no fewer than 14 of them are "black market" or "contraband" mysteries - still mostly ones that I think they've offered before. Perhaps the "advance access" for the members was for bin ends, and now we're belatedly on to the main event - such as it is. The $14 Cabernet blend is the one that stands out to me.

(Oh and -- hi there. I mostly lurk here, but I appreciate all your insights. :)

i had a credit card, then just used a paypal account on another card. most people have a second bank account they can link to a paypal or a partner/relative who will let you use they're card for a one off purchase.

I'm just saying what worked for me for anyone interested. In my case i used a paypal account linked to a second debit card and a friends phone number for the 4 digit confirmation code they send. the whole thing took about 15min and it worked, got the $100 and $25 referral on each accounts, it was delivered to the same address i use for all my other orders, it all worked like normal.

This doesn't sit well with me, I am afraid (but my lovely wife often says I am a boring, do-gooder!!). I guess you tried a cheeky manoeuvre and it has beat the system.

I too am interested in this wine and what it is like. Potentially could be amazing, haven't pulled the trigger yet..

Anyone shed some light on it?

Just slurping on some now. Very fruit-forward, subtle oak. Full but soft. Funnily enough, the blurb on the bottle is pretty accurate. Reminds me of some of the Kilikanoons I've had, which is quite a compliment. Tannins are restrained, will improve for some years but won't really need long to round out. Not a blockbuster but very slurpable.

Looks like this is the first time it's been sold, as nothing on the Haselgrove website. $40 seems a little overegged, but can't complain about $12.

We have the $14 Cabernet Blend and it's Frank Potts. Remarkable value at the price.

That was my assumption, thanks for the confirmation. I've never tried it but I'm fond of their Mulberry Tree (and the LC region in general - as a long-term Metala tragic), so it seemed a no-brainer to order some. Cheers.

I'm with you here. People complain that they don't get stuff they like and run all the same stuff but then they're happy to wrought the system.

Having said that, if you were to legitimately couple the free shipping, $25 referral and $100 coupon and managed to get 2 of the $90 black market dozens eg. the Orange cab sauv that's on there now you're looking at $2.29 a bottle. ****!

FWIW, the bottle is really nicely presented as well! We used to buy Frank Potts occasionally through Cellarmasters in the mid to late 90s, probably around the time they were taken over by Fosters. Pretty sure we paid around $12-$14 then. Just shared 2 cases of the Potts with some friends, recent converts to Vinomofo. Now they keep asking what the latest wine deals are...

Mulberry Tree is a nice drop too, and nothing wrong with being a Metala tragic either. ;)

Looks like the 2013 hewitson mother vine is back on. Any opinions on whether this is a good buy or a pass from those who have tried it?

It's an absolute disgrace that someone can suggest that this is a forty dollar pinot. It upsets me a lot that I have tried both their Woodside range and the i-777 and they are both superior. Yet the labelling on today's one says 'the very best'. What a fiasco. It has some fruit, it has some mild acidity, but it lacks depth, it lacks character, it just gets over the line in terms of body and the finish does nothing to draw in another glass. Incredibly disappointed and it will be going back. It tastes like a thirteen bucker, which would not be too far away as someone previously mentioned about their ten bucker. Sure it's a tricky grape to grow, but the marketing department needs a good discussion about where this Reserve pinot should really stand in their catalogue of wines.

I expected much more from this pinot too, being touted as their reserve at over $40 a bottle! It's drinkable, but I have had much better for all the hype... It lacks complexity/character, and I am doubtful some age will find anything special.

I can't see it there. Any chance you could provide a link?

I have some but haven't tried it yet (from memory we paid $24.50 per bottle?). Thought I'd give it a couple of years in the dark before bringing one out to try with some of our winey friends. Given the age of the vineyard, the vintage conditions and the quality of the oak treatment (and Halliday's opinion, which is worth something, I guess), it's a pretty serious wine for the money.

Is this the one you are referring to ?https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine...il&utm_term=0_7adb240a07-7c4ec2fabc-172359021

That's certainly it - Hewitson Mother Vine - but I can't find it on the site. Did you get an email notification? I turned my daily notifications off when we were traveling recently. I guess the emails must precede the wine being generally available on the site?

It's terrible and you'll hate it. Don't order it. (So I can grab some before it runs out).

If you liked the 2012 you'll like this. Typical big Barossa wine flavours.

Yes, it came in an email today

I grabbed a sixer of Mother Vine after trying one from the salvation case. It's a pretty standard barossa, with a little more refinement but I think it's in need of some cellaring. Just tastes a little young to me. In a few years, I suspect it will be a cracker.

EDIT: I should say that at 25 a bottle, it's a good drinker right now too! You wouldn't blink spending that much in a bottle shop for a decent quality barossa shiraz.
