Vinomofo Wine Deals

Is it me, or has the Fo had a few bad weeks...? Or are we just becoming too demanding - those Fo monster wine consumers (created by so many good, good deals) that I mentioned earlier in the week?

There's definitely a cycle with their deals. There's a long time between drinks for the great deals.

For those of us who are relatively new here, care to relay a couple of the better ones?

Just one example includes 2001 D'arenberg Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 for $39 a bottle.

But this exact question has been asked and answered before. You need to get into the habit of checking the previous messages in this thread.

Myself and many others have listed clearly what we thought were the best Vinomofo purchased we've had.

Actually I usually do. Fair point. However I've just tried searching a few variants of "best Vinomofo deals" but this hasn't got me anywhere.

For me the best deals were the 2 top of the range Katnook namely Prodigy Shiraz & Odyssey Cabernet for half price $50

A few days ago my dear blog friend Beefarmer challenged me to compare the Robert Bowen Cab Sauv 12 against other Fo purchases I had recently made. It was an interesting exercise, as it revealed I had acquired 5 really good Cab Sauv's over the last 3/4 months. Ones that made many of us coo over the electronic airwaves of the Tinternet. I am not suggesting they are 'the best', but it does give you a good indication almost all of their offerings (particularly in the $20 - $35 mark) are very good indeed.

I am conscious we have had Pinot-Gate, Mitolo-Something or Other-Gate and today Whatever-it-was-but don't call it Iconic Shiraz-Gate!

Hopefully that helps, Buzz especially if you are new and reading the more negative vibes that have been airing over the last few weeks. The Fo are usually on top of their game and bringing us great deals for the here and now and also for the cellar.

It is interesting, the negative vibe thing, as I have only been around for a few weeks, but I have bought some pretty good wines in that time. Glenlofty 2012 Shiraz, those Fox Creek Fox and Hounds. If this is "off form" I'm looking forward to when they get on their game.

oooh new salvation case, $50 iconic shiraz is most likely the 2013 Hewitson mother vine, which isn't too shabby.

Still if your going for a mixed bag case, the BoomBox has the 2010 Giant Squid ink which got best red wine of the year in Vienna a couple years back and more golds than you can shake a stick at.

I'm going to break my usual rule and let the cat out of the bag as I think VM have been a bit dodgy/careless with this one.

One of my members has managed to identify it as Warramate, assumed to be their White Label Shiraz. VM have had Warramate wines before.

Warramate is associated with Yarra Yering apparently, purchased by them in 2011, but kept separate, hence the "iconic" bit by association, Warramate dates from 1970, the Warramate site is essentially defunct and they are 4 stars under their own listing. I see VM have quickly removed the 5-red stars claim, presumably originally attributed from the Yarra Yering association.

Mad Max Is Watching...everybody ! ............................................................................................................................great film by the way

Best quaffers: Glenlofty, Amelia Park, Hannah's Swing, Fox Creek Fox and Hounds
Best value: Wynns Black label, Wolf Blass Grey Label, Wynns V&A Lane, all 2012, at half-price. Hewitson Mothervine and Mad Hatter also very good.
High end wines: Lindeman Trio, Rosemount Balmoral, Haselgrove The Cruth, Giant Squid Ink

Some of these deals where available from other places but plentiful from VM

A couple of excellent pinot offerings may soothe a few burnt hands, mine included. Although everything else for me has been pretty excellent - both value quaffer, and the more "fancy" $30+ bottles.
Yet to get a white that is either undrinkable or poor value.

Or maybe today's Warramate $50 iconic and premium producer.

Re: Vinomofo Wine Deals - Squid Ink

Anybody tried any of the following yet:

1. Quorum Shiraz 10

2. Hewitson Private Cellar Shiraz Blend Magnum 10

3. Tier 1 Barossa Shiraz 08

4. Giant Quid Ink

????

The [first 3] are in the Pool Room aka the top shelf of the wine cabinet at the moment, ready to try one (from their 6 packs, with the rest already tucked away under the house). I have not tried the fourth, the Giant Squid (what a cool name), but I am tempted to buy the Boom Box or a 6 pack if you good guys tell me it's a gud'un having tried it.

I've had 6 of my Quorums. Wasn't convinced at first so was drinking to get rid of them, but have come around to think it's actually quite nice. It's cork so store properly. Had one or the Giant Squid Ink - thought it had a bit of a bitter aftertaste, but I also had a bit of a cold so I'll crack another before rushing to judgement- otherwise the flavours were good: not too much fruit, good tannins.

Don't have the other two, but did drink a 2005 Hewitson Private Cellar Shiraz Mouvedre on the weekend. Nice and smooth- good drinking now.

Re: Vinomofo Wine Deals - Squid Ink

Had the Tier 1 about a month ago. Was super underwhelming for how it was advertised. Not particularly complex, seemed to die off at the end.
I also don't think it has any cellaring life in it either.

1 more for the best Vmfo deal:
Parous 2010 Shiraz, surprised this hasn't been talked about at all. It went out at ~20/btl now selling at ~$80. Wish I bought every last bit when the fo had it.

Thank you AC and also DMnz (I am guessing you are of the All Black flavour with a name like that!). My expectations have been deflated somewhat, but (silver lining) re-aligned, so if they are good then I will hopefully have a positive experience drinking them. Better than the other way around.
