Vinomofo Wine Deals

So, I will only do a little review on my initial (virgin) experiences with the Cullen DM 08 [for fear Dr Ralph will track me down, get me struck off, thus leaving me penniless and unable to buy these fine, fine wines, which in turn will mean I can't clog up this Fo purchase thread with this unnecessary (no-Fo) banter ...!!] :

The Cullen DM 08 is exceptional (unlike the Parker FG 08 that was slow to blossom), this was off the hook good, from the go. And it matched perfectly with my wife's spud, tasty cheese and Woolworths own baked beans!! The topping was my culinary genius! I have already uploaded my Vivino opinion:

"This is pure class in a glass. If Queen Elizabeth II was a wine - this would be it. It's understated royalty, exuding real pedigree. It's drinking well now, like HM 20 years ago, but will easily evolve into one of the best wine monarchs of our generation. It's very expensive, but well worth it."

This is the real deal, and well worth it's beyond ostentatious price tag.

Vivino 4.5 Stars (in my humble opinion)
Wozza, I have tried a couple of Pinots to go along for the night, but Robert Parker says give maximum if it deserves it. I don't know anything about Vivino, but did you sell this one short? Reading between the lines, and they are only 6 point five millimetres long, do you re rate?

Great question, Beefarmer. Vivino allow you to score out of 5, and you only score in whole numbers or halves. And so, I have leaned towards a tougher marking system, rather than adopt the JH - it's all good or amazing - kind of scoring.

Was the Cullen DM 08 as good as the Grange 85 I had last month? No. Or the Seppeltsfield Para 100 1914 Tawny I tasted at the last Langtons Top 100 Wines night? No. But was it better than the JH 97 pointers I have recently had from Fo? Absolutely yes.

If I could score the Cullen DM 08 a 4.8 I would, but alas I can't, and I do not believe it is in the world class camp I reserve for the 5 star'ers.

It does highlight the gulf that I believe exists between the drink them now 95 and 96 pointers (which I believe includes a number of the higher scoring JH rated wines) and the truly exceptional wines of 97 and above. The JH 97 pointers I have recently had (the Moppity S 10 and the Paxton JB S 12, which were both stunning wines) are just not in the same league as the Cullen DM 08. But, according to JH only one point separates these three wines. In my humble opinion, I don't think the Aussie experts we all love and trust leave enough head room in their scoring for the best of the best.

Nothing popped up in the top ten results for a search against: Pinot Noir 2010.

Alas, it doesn't matter, as the deal has sold out.

Re: Black Market Pinot Noir 2010 $50 down to $15 Yarra Valley

Question for the VinoPerts. I know if I have a dud wine in a straight 6 or 12 I can return for a refund but if for example I purchase the Pinot High Rollers mixed and get a dud i have to just cop it on the chin (is that correct ?). I had dud Pinots (plural) lately from VM so was reluctant to pull the trigger unless there is some recourse for getting a dud single. I am suffering from VM Pinot Paranoia I think. Would the $300 be better spent toward a 2013 Ata Rangi or 2011 or 2013 Escarpment Kupe 6 pack at $63 p.b ($378) and $67 p.b ($402) respectively?

I don't think it's been offered before. That said there can't be that many wineries in Halliday's Dark Horse list that are also inbYarra Valley and sell $50 pinots. Unfortunately away from my computer at the moment so can't assist with the search

Can't see why they wouldn't honour their refund guarantee in this situation.

Have you contacted them?

Where have you found the KUPE Escarpment 13 for $67 a bottle?

That's a great deal, and a serious PN. The KUPE is in another stratosphere to any of the Fo High Roller PNs in their latest pack. So, if I were you, I would jump on the KUPE at $67 a bottle and skip paying $50 a bottle for the Fo High Rollers.

Considering some latest offerings, my old mate Gordon Sumner's song suddenly starting in one of my ears. That bee has a great sting by the way. Giant Steps are what you take, walking on the moon, I hope my legs.........as someone says, doesn't matter but Innocent Bystander is probably not it.

I went ahead and ordered 6 of the escarpment (the $67 was with a discount code) I should have clarified that the prices were with a discount code sorry. I already have 22 of the Ata Rangi 2013 in my cellar as I drank 2 prematurely and they were yummy. I am at the stage with Pinot where I would rather pay a fair price for a good Pinot than a discount price for an ordinary pinot. I also have realised that adelaide hills Pinot and me don't get along and never have despite my attempts. I can't define what it is but I have narrowed down to Burgundy/Martinborough/Tasmania/Yarra Valley. I guess that makes me a narrow minded pinofile.

Really? I hope you were able to sample some of the Ashton Hills offerings before making that judgement call. If not, give them a go :)

I am guessing that you prefer the less acidic versions that don't need to be cellared to be enjoyed. Probably more fruit forward styles with bigger all round textures. just a guess.

Now I am going to have to try another hills. Probably better stated that when adelaide hills is good its very good and when bad its very bad, I just can't seem to pick them. Most of the ones I tried were through VM. Some really good ones I've had through VM were not from the hills, St Huberts, Coldstream, Trapeze (PHI was ok but wouldn't buy again). My favourite VM was the Serrat

I got the 2013 Ata Rangi and 2011 and 2013 Kupe for cellaring. (WF says to 2033+ AR and 2026 for the 2011) I don't really like the fruitbombs but more darker and spicier. Not a big fan of Mornington Peninsula. Pinot seems very terror driven so you seem to like a region or not. I saw a mt gambier patrick pinot get good accolades recently so would like to try it. 2014 Patrick 'Estate' Pinot Noir - Patrick of Coonawarra - South Australia.

went to dannys for the 6 wolf grey deal.....outstanding reviews for both shiraz and blend. Got 4 straight, and 2 blends....and the 2010 black. Furthermore, bought the multi recommended paringa pinot, late twenties.........i will be keen to compare it with the Helen and joeys
