Vinomofo Wine Deals

Has anyone tasted something better for less then $60 ?

I haven't had the Squid Ink, but I can say from some recent Fo Shiraz purchases that:

- the Paxton Jones Block Shiraz 2012 ($34), and
- the Moppity Reserve Shiraz 2010 ($55)

were both absolutely stunning wines and well worth their 97 rating, in my humble opinion. And the Wynns V&A (can't remember the price but it was below $40) was not far behind.

Appreciate it beefarmer, but it's the people on this forum that i've been gaining so much knowledge from in the past few weeks. The giant squid was my first purchase off from vinomofo, and I enjoyed it immensely the other day.

Checkout Wozzas reply, so much helpful info.

I have been tempted by the Squid Ink but I haven't heard enough glowing reviews to take the drop. Also, I have too much freaking wine.

For reference these are the wines I enjoy for under $60. I wouldn't say any of these are better then the Giant Squid.

Penfolds 389 2012 ($59 - Costco)
Penfolds 407 2012 ($59 - Costco)
Grant Burge FilSell 2010 ($35 - Dans)
Grant Burge FilSell 2012 ($27 - Dans)

Penfolds 407 2012 ($45 - Winemarket)
Grant Burge Filsell 2012 ($20 - Winemarket)

the filsell 6bottle deal of the 2013 I found thru the dan murphys forum on aff.......again, it was $20 a bottle free delivery. And what a beautiful wine the Filsell is. I haven't had one for that long but this had ripe cherries, a bit of smoke, full and sweek vanillan oak.A long mouthfeel, elegant, not too bitey tannins, and not too huge. Just supurb.

whilst on that, received my Fox Gordon cabernet 2014 brothers and sisters. Dropped into a mates on the way home for a sample. Stayed for sinner...you know the story. Simply beautiful. Such elegance in a wine that I thought would be barossan and ballsy but turned out to be ultra smooth, not tannic in the way some read wines to last -( bottle says ten years in it !) - just absolutely moorish. Great fruit character mainly young berries, but what is impressive is the clean inviting nose that damn well delivers. From front to end !!! I think if this comes back on for $10.50, grab some folks. Is it beter than glenlofty - I think so. Is it better than fox and hounds - both extremely close, both beautifully made wines. This has more elegance. This is what VM are about. Great inexpensive vinos.

If that Filsell deal comes back on let me know, that is worth a dozen or two! And if that Fox Gordon comes back I will take your advice and snap some up!

Re: Wine Deals

So today's Shiraz looks like the Hungerford Hill Collection making a reappearance after many months in the wilderness. I bought a 6 pack back in May - not bad, but not a $65 bottle in my view.

It is the Hungerford Hill, a quick search of this site would confirm that, but 'many months in the wilderness'?

I got a case within the last 4 weeks, when they had their latest free freight offerings.

PS: I visited Hungerford Hill last weekend and told them of my purchase from VM. They weren't please to hear of the fact that the identity of their wines was so easily discoverable.

Didn't need to search the site to confirm as I bought it - Just trying to be helpful to those who couldn't be bothered searching :)

I must have missed it back on sale when I was on leave!

You should show them the "clues" and see whether they recognize their own description.
Flagship, boutique, premium, 94 points ....
All VM wines identity are known once purchased and possibly confirmed here.:)

Re: Wine Deals

Just scrolled thru a dozen pages from way back when this wine was offered up previously and few said they would report back after tasting.
No reports ....mmmmmmmmmmmm does that mean we will get one in a few years when someone tastes this wine ????? Or did they forget after getting caught up in the hype of discovering new wines identity ?
Any reports on the HH ?

I'm fairly certain I made mention of this wine previously. Ended up sending it back, just not to my taste at all. Keen to hear what others thought of it but, simply put, I just didn't like it.

BUT, their Cab Sav that was offered at the same time. That was a winner.

We thought the Shiraz was a bit different too. Love the Cab Sav though and hanging out to drink another bottle.

I didn't purchase the Collection Shiraz last time, but from a quick search now couldn't see any rave reviews from those that did. JH did give it a respectable 94, but used most of his review to malign the original name of the wine. HH is a great winery, and produce some excellent wines. For instance, the Heavy Metal Shiraz 13 (a Fo purchase) was sensational, and I am hoping to keep my will power in tact to save 3 bottles for the cellar. At less than $10 a bottle more for the Heavy Metal, I will be holding out for the Heavy Metal or (if they have all gone) another excellent Fo deal ...

Me too, alas with only two left, I have to be selective. And one of those is taking a voyage down laydown lane.

I don't know about Squid Ink as I have not had the pleasure nor have I had this wine, but a friend tells me that the Mike Press 09 MP1 Shiraz Cabernet (now sold out) for $20 cellar door was absolutely devine.

The MP1 is only made when Mike feels he has "something special" to bottle.

Sorry for being a bit OT but thought it worth a mention.
