Any thoughts on the Black Market 2014 Pemberton Sauvignon Blanc?

https://vinomofo.com/wines/white-wine/black-market-deal-sauvignon-blanc-2014-4c1794ee

The Bellarmine description gets close but the winery price is $20 compared to $27 on the 'Fo.

This one's an enigma that I don't think anyone's ever confirmed what it is. Other possibilities that have been tossed around are Capel Vale of some sort, or Domaine Vineyards Pemberley - neither of which match well. RedWineBigot probably has the definitive answer. I rarely buy Sauv Blanc, so I haven't looked into this one myself - just waiting for someone else to confirm what it is. :)

Not the Sauvignon Blanc your after, however I can confirm the other one the Fo have up at the moment is the Evens and Tate Breathing Space.

Cracked my second Mitolo last night.

Exec summary : Should have sent it back and will probably give the other 4 away

Ditto. I have just posted another Vivino review saying:

"This wine has caused quite a stir in VinoMofo circles, and has divided opinion on whether it was too smooth and understated for the flagship tag or too chocolate bomb and alcoholic. I experimented with my second bottle, opening it up for a day. On initial opening it is quite smooth and understated, but when you leave it, the wine reveals why it has that dark rich colour - it's a massive chocolate dark cherry fest. But it's still smooth. It's going to need some serious sleep in the next 5 years to calm down."

I really want to return this now. I am even happy to pay for the two bottles consumed to get a refund on the remaining four.

Why the apparent turnaround? When the Cantiniere was closed I quite liked it's understated, smooth style. But now I know what it will turn into.

When drinking it for the second time, I felt like the kid that fell in Willy Wonka's chocolate lake - way too much chocolate for me. And, to complete the Willy Wonker metaphor, I felt I had been sucked in by the mof_ platitudes on this wine. It's definitely not for me, and a lesson well learned in doing more research on an unknown wine. Two hours later we were all starting to wonder what we had brought. Two hours later, I would probably have given it a miss.

Oh well. That's two duds out of many excellent Fo purchases. And at least the Wynns Black Label (WineMarket) and Hewitson Mother Vine (the Fo) are arriving next week to restore wine order in the Wozza house.

You are very welcome, tgh. Ironically, I acquired a second case of the Black Label because it has a lovely chocolate feel to it. But it's really well integrated and finely balanced in the Black Label, and is on the market for almost the same price as the Willy Wonker wine I want to offload!

bit unfair to willy .. he is probably more approachable then the Mitolo.

Leads to me wondering what Mitolo think of all this..

The 'fo , in a reputation damaging marketing exercise , sends it up as an ultra premium ($68) product when they knew that it was nothing within a long cooee of it...

Leads to .. what I already knew.. the 'fo can no longer be trusted...

Leads to… what will I think next time I see something with a Mitolo label….

This was a Mitolo creation, which VM bought the whole production run. Well that's the story. If so, it's a Mitolo problem not a VM problem. To be fair, Mitolo always make these big wines IMHO. Serpico, GAM, Savitar - I think either you like them or you don't...

Fair comment, AC. Mitolo do make big wines (well), and we should have expected nothing less. Although maybe the puffery was just too much for what it actually was. I think winery and retailer were out of sync on this one, and it has left a fair few of us a bit disappointed and less trusting.

Does anyone have any opinions to offer on Evans & Tate Metricup Road Cabernet Merlot 2012 and Evans & Tate Original Cabernet Merlot 2014? Thanks.
