Vinomofo Wine Deals

I think I have it figured! Although I can't find alcohol content to check. I think this wine is Haselgrove Protector McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2012. 90 from Halliday, and no, not very tempted!
No. 4 stars only. Back to the drawing board.

so 95 = 5/10 ??

Not sure how you come to that conclusion.

You might find it useful to have a look at the most recently released Halliday Wine Companion to see the number of wines that score 90 or less.

Bargain is a relative term. Would you pay even $4 or $5 for a bottle of wine that you hated? Saving 99% wouldn't interest me if I was buying something I didn't want or hated.

There aren't many wines that Halliday scores 90 or below.

I havent bought the wa shiraz (bellarmine) myself but it hasnt gotten good reviews from the people i have talked to who have bought it.

I will definately give this one a miss.
Thanks for setting me on the right course.

What I'd be more concerned about is the 90 pt score from Halliday. Given 95 is probably his average now, a score of 90 would have me extremely worried (surely it constitutes a failure). I wouldn't buy without having had an opportunity to taste first. Of course, you could use the free return policy vinomofo offer to do a taste test for yourself and return the rest if you aren't happy.

Halliday has definitely become more generous in his old age, especially for Pinot Noir.

In his defence, there are some great wines being made in Australia now. Most of his recent 95-97s have been genuinely fantastic wines, so I think the ratings are deserved. However in recent years wines of similar quality would usually be in the 93-94-95 points range, and 96-97 would be truly outstanding drops.

Even today, a wine with 90+ points from Halliday should still be "reasonably good".

I'm glad I went with the SA Shiraz which turned out to be K1 by Geoff Hardy. Enjoying a glass right now :)

Good? Mine just got delivered... no drinkies for me yet. Half to drink this year, half to store for another year. :)

Was that the Tzimmukin?
We had a bottle of that with Sunday dinner and it was outstanding.
Very glad I bought a case.

Overall I've been pretty happy with Vinomofo (even if the wallet hasn't).
Reading the posts here from Daver6 amongst others has led to me buying and tasting some great wines that I wouldn't previously have considered.

So cheers to all the great contributors , keep the recommendations coming :D

I always read this read hoping to see a poster write BUY BUY BUY!

Had a case of the 2012 Shiraz Blend is Hewitson Ned & Henrys Shiraz Mourvèdre. delivered this morning, haven't had a chance to drink it yet but for $143 delivered seems pretty good value.
Wasn't it $168 delivered? Glad I didn't steer people wrong with the ID :) . Still thinking about a case of this for myself, so please report back when it has been sampled!

Is that relevant? Vinomofo have a generous money back system if you aren't happy with your purchase.

It's only relevant to the person who deems it is relevant.
I'm referring to the Krug they had recently - a comment upthread indicated that it was a grey import.
So if it has been stored improperly, just as with any wine, then most people probably won't be happy with the outcome.
Wasn't aware of the money back system but that seems to be good for this type of business.

Welcome to Vinomofo - Vinomofo

I've used it previously (as described in earlier post) without a problem.

If someone is Grey Importing $200+ bottles of wine, you would hope that they have some idea about wine storage... but you never know :p

Bought the Halliday Wine Companion for $20. Seems he has been very generous with his ratings. What makes it more confusing is many of them have the 'value' star next to them which rates based on price/quality rather than overall quality. Fox Gordon Hannay's Swing 2012 is a great drop. Wouldn't pay the $50, but paid $15pb (after credit) and well worth it!

Any clue on the 200 case Contraband deal? My tip is the Fox Gordon Eight Uncles Shiraz 2012 when reading my book.
