Vinomofo Wine Deals

My tip is the Fox Gordon Eight Uncles Shiraz 2012 when reading my book.

Isn't that 14.5%? Biggest clue is the 13.9% alc to me.

EDIT: Vintage Cellars says 14.5, winery says 13.9... think I know who to trust. :)

Yeah my thoughts exactly. I checked the whole book now (No Life) and it's definitely that one. Decent deal for a dozen, arguably the Geoff Hardy is easier bet for similar value. Coincidental i was talking about my Hannah's Swing kop.

Bought the Halliday Wine Companion for $20. Seems he has been very generous with his ratings. What makes it more confusing is many of them have the 'value' star next to them which rates based on price/quality rather than overall quality. Fox Gordon Hannay's Swing 2012 is a great drop. Wouldn't pay the $50, but paid $15pb (after credit) and well worth it!

Any clue on the 200 case Contraband deal? My tip is the Fox Gordon Eight Uncles Shiraz 2012 when reading my book.

Interesting. I bought Fox Eight Uncles from Vintage Cellars a couple of weeks ago for an effective price of $8.57 a bottle (advertised price $14.99, plus bonus $25 cellar share when buying 6 plus triple points) - a couple of dollars more than VM price for a dozen, but I knew what I was buying!

On the RO website this wine gets 94pts but on the mo only 90 so I don't think it is this one.

Youre right, the site I saw only had a gold medal and two 90 point reviews. Might have jumped the gun

eight uncles must be it, 13.9% on multiple sites

Wasn't it $168 delivered? Glad I didn't steer people wrong with the ID :) . Still thinking about a case of this for myself, so please report back when it has been sampled!

Currently enjoying a glass of this, very smooth, quite light for a Shiraz, saying that I have never had this kind of blend before with Mourvedre I don't think. Not a strong flavour on the palate, but a nice bit of fruit. Take all this with a grain of salt though as I can't say I am the most discerning consumer, I can tell good from bad and better from worse but not so great on intricacies, just happy to get something I like. And this I like!

Glad to hear you're enjoying your wine travelislife. I took a punt and purchased the contraband deal ($99 + del) so will report what it is when it arrives. The big problem I find with this Vinomofo site is buying too much wine

A big thank-you

I thought buying in a group and splitting a case would mean i bought less, but i buy so much more when i can break it down to smaller amounts. Its only $25 for 4 bottles of wine!

I almost bought this as well based on the barossa 2012 combo, only scared off by the 90 halliday points. We are spoiled for choice with cheap, high rating wines

Given the 90 point rating it was touch and go but I am hoping it is the Fox Creek which is not a bad drop IMHO.
With sharing I will only end up with ~ 6 bottles.

Malbec blend is the capel vale cellar exclusive Malbec/Petit Verdot/Cabernet Sauvignon - can see it on their website

Havent found a review yet so no idea if its any good

Wish I had a share buddy. It is the only thing stopping me from buying more from the Fo, (although I have rung up over 1K in a few months) I really don't want to have to buy 12 bottle at a time esp when you not entirely sure of what it is and whether you will enjoy it. I just end up giving a few bottle of each case away to family and friends :)

Welcome to AFF Rocket09, where are you located? You might find a share buddy if you state your general location.
I share mine with 2 work mates and 2 other mates that buy from Cracka. We don't all share everything all the time, in fact one of my work mates simply buys 1 bottle to try and another 2, 3 or 4 if he likes the wine.

I share some purchases with a Flyertalker who lives in Australia - works quite well, although our paths don't cross as often as I would like.

Probably should look at getting another buddy as I have too much wine!!!

Thanks Buzzard. I am in Hobart, and I am sure I could sell off a few of each case if I tried ;) I have a few that are on the fence about joining a group buy arrangement, they are all young families and are not huge wine drinkers so a little hard.

I visited Capel Vale earlier this year. I was appalled at how bad their wines. I visited 15 vineyards in WA and this is the only place I refused to buy something from. Highly over rated producer in my opinion. If this is the Capel Vale, there's probably a very good reason why they haven't listed a score or a review on the site for it.

Buzzard had said he was looking for comments like 'BUY BUY BUY'. In this instance I'd say RUN AWAY RUN AWAY RUN AWAY!

In the last week there have been a lot more mixed cases offered. Such as:

Father's Day Red Vino Pack - Mixed Case

High Rollers 3.0 - Mixed Case

Shiraz Line Up 4.0 - Mixed Case

Even though there's a slight premium that you're paying per bottle as compared to the price you'd pay if you bought a whole case of the same wine from Vinomofo, I think the High Rollers and Father's day packs are very good value. I'd certainly purchase these if I didn't already have obscene quantities of wine.

And there's always the salvation offerings that come up if you're looking for a mixed case.
