Vinomofo Wine Deals

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Bit of Googling didn't turn up much. Not much of it on cellartracker and wine-searcher suggests this is a sub-$10 wine. Not idea where the $26 price VM comes from.

Argentina is re-valuing its currency :p

I'm an animal of experiences.. so the Malbec in J on LAN was terrible and I didn't find anything moorish in Argentina at all…cynics may suggest that I didn't look hard enough.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

the Fox Gordon Sauvignon Blanc, a recent black market deal, scored very highly with my Sav Blanc drinking friends: My white wine is riesling, and the Mt Langhi 2011 riesling through vinomofo ( not so long ago) was fantastic

(A new blog on VM wines and how they taste might be a good way to go ( nice wines I have drunk recently do not specialise in VM wines and I know for me reports on various VM wines would be welcome)

The fox Gordon range has been a great find for me this year. Saturday night, the chardy was lovely, not over processed, not overly wooded, just great drinking. The fox savvy is delicious, and luckily different to the cats pee-like mediocre new Zealand savvys. Great time with summer drinking some whites, and they get better as the glass warms.

Got our mixed sparkling case two days ago, which was great, as when I ordered it, it didn't look like it would be delivered until January. Currently in the fridge waiting...

Here is the Ray Jordan 94pt review: 3 Oceans Winery | WineLinx

I bought a lot of the 3Oceans wines this year from the FO...cabernet, shiraz, chardonnay and another I think. Really impressive good wines for the money. Yes, it appears a little bracket creep coming into the pricing structure of the FO, but let's be honest, if the quality delivers, then we all should be happy. For what it's worth when considering value, one week ago for lunch, five of us had a 2010 Grange. I know what you are thinking, too damn young. No choice in this matter due to health issues. So what did I think of it? I even tried contacting Tyson S for his thoughts on decanting but no reply. He scored it 100. Best young wine he has EVER had were his comments. Quite simply, I was expecting the wow factor and most of us would. I scored it a 7.5. No wow factor except the most finely trailing tannins I have ever had that lingered on incredibly. Not distracting at all, just unique. My issue with it, and it was my first taste ever, was I expected a bit more body to it. Sure it's a 96/4Cab blend this time, but at least it isn't over extracted. Neverthless, I have the bott for memory and experience, one I will never forget.

Scoped my reviews, July this year, the 2013 Explorers Shiraz.....it's the 2013 which is good as I am not buying. But based on my notes, I think others should. Not word for word, but here it goes...deep deep ruby with mahogany margins, a little bit of heat on the nose, youngish berries. On palate, chocolate presence, palate about 8/10 for fullness, great refinement. it's better with food as tannins are there. a lovely nice long finish, not to jammy. it is good. it will keep. 8.2........now I read ray jordans comments and there are a few similarities. It is obvious that we both like this red. Salute and buon natale !

On beefarmer and Big Red's 3 Oceans discussion - I bought a case of the 2013 Shiraz on-spec this year and took a bottle to my regular golf club lunch last week. The table was impressed and I agree with beefarmer's write-up - really quite a nice wine. I couldn't remember the price but said I thought it was ok for about $14. Apparently it was better for $10.80! Anyway - it seems worth another dozen at $13.50.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Quick question. I'm reorganising my stash/ cellar of Vinomofo procured wines. Is it OK to stack the cardboard cases on their sides so the bottles can be more easily accessed? Boxes of dozens stacked about 6 high? Only ask as the boxes have 'this way up' directions, but maybe that is just for delivery? Cheers and happy holidays to all!

You can do it, but I find this tends to work best with "bordeax" style bottles (the ones that are the same thickness at the top as at the bottom). Bottles that are shaped like champagne/chardonnay bottles, depending on the box that they are in, have a tendency to slip out, if there's no cardboard dividers. If the glass bottles are touching directly, they tend to "slip" and potentially fall out through any hole you might have made in the top of the box.
