Vinomofo Wine Deals

A test for any marketing company would be to sell a wine as a 'pinot blend'..............anyone ever heard of that type of wine?

The Shiraz Pinot was once a quite common blend, especially in the Hunter Valley where it was made in the classic Burgundy style. It's starting to make a comeback with a few winemakers, so I suspect we'll see more of it in time.

thanks :)

don't know how i missed trying that url after failing with yarra valley in it as per https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/thousand-candles-yarra-valley-shiraz-2012

What came from Rockford? I'm heading over for the Black Magnum golf tournament in a fortnight so will be tasting there and then attending the fabo dinner Rockford put on.

Hello everyone
I have only recently discovered vinomofo and this thread. I was previously the type of person that would buy a $20-$30 bottle of wine at the bottleo when required. Now I have seen the light and had some very nice wine from the wine club case.

I particularly enjoyed the 2013 Murdoch James Estate Pinot Noir. (Martinborough, NZ).

Apologies if you have already discussed this wine, I found it delicious. Considering buying a case of it.

I also got a case of the Misty Cove Pippa Rose methode traditionelle. Marlborough, NZ. There is no year on the bottle, which seems odd to me. Any thoughts? However, tastes very nice although sparkling rose may be an acquired taste. Nice for $11 and could make a nice gift for BBQs, dinners etc for the host if I can't get through it all on my own.

I also have the black market mixed case on the way.

I am thoroughly enjoying discovering new wine, and tasting wines I wouldn't always have chosen. There is a 2014 Coriole Chenin Blanc in the wine club case, I've never tried chenin Blanc before.
What's it like?
Ps. I am new to wine collecting world, so please be nice!

Welcome to the Wine Lovers and wider AFF community, Jef6050.

I'm afraid I can't be much help on your specific wine questions, as I haven't tried any of the wines you have got. But what I can do is offer the follow tit-bits to hopefully get you on your way more generally with using this Forum, and more specifically the Wine Lovers section:

I've been a member since July last year, and progressed my wine journey in much the same way you did. The Fo (as some of us like to call them) is a good starting point, as is their mixed cases if you are developing your tastes. If you want to step up in quality for a variety you like, just observe the experienced members put strong recommendations down on a particular wine. The 6 and 12 packs of certain wines will be a good winner for most. There's a good example of that if you look a little further up this thread - you'll see lots of members saying good things about the Hannah's Swing wine.

Take a look at the other two key thread on the Wine Lovers section. They are (a) the Dan Murphy's and Other thread and (b) the Nice Wines I Have Tried thread. The Dan Murphy's thread will open up current deals from other wine merchants, some bricks and mortar like Dan's, some online retailers similar to the Fo, some deals direct from the wineries themselves. The Nice Wines thread is a bit of picture filled fun, where members share their thoughts on the wines have liked. You don't have to be James Halliday to post there. All comments are well received.

Don't jump too soon on a deal that has just hit. Sometimes within 10 minutes of a wine being revealed there is a chorus of experienced members recommending you don't buy.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, like the excellent ones you have below. You'll often get some great advice.

Before asking a question on a wine that's been up for a while, do have a go at using the search function at the top right. If you put the Fo description like Black Market Shiraz Blend 2012 $100 to $35, the answer usually pops up for you.

Set a budget each month, and try to stick to it. Otherwise, you'll end up buying enough wine to start your own bottleo! Many of us here will attest to going a little bit mad, especially at certain times of the year when all the amazing deals come one after the other. There's always another great deal a click away, especially if you regularly check the Fo and Dan's threads.

Don't be too despondent if a Fo deal disappears in a flash. They use online mob selling tactics to create demand, and a deal will often pop up again. It's rare for the Fo to sell out in one hit, although it does happen - I'm thinking of the Halliday Hero Pack that had the 99 point Serrat in it.

And try and stay out of trouble better than me and Beefarmer have managed!Who's he? You'll have the fine and poetic pleasure of finding out over the coming time ...!!

Have fun.

You will have a great time.

I don't think I am important enough to score an invite to that one, but I hear (and read) that it is a fabulous day.

Many sparkling wines are what we call "Non Vintage" (or NV - definitely not to be confused with NEVADA).

A Non Vintage wine contains grapes blended across vintages. This allows the winemaker to make a consistent wine from year to year and remove some of the variation that comes from the specific weather conditions of any one year. It also allows a wine to contain some very old grapes alongside some newer ones which help to build up the structure of the wine. This technique is common to sparkling wine and fortified wines, although most "table wine" is only ever released with grapes from one vintage (hence the year on the bottle).

A NV Champagne from one of the big houses should taste roughly the same now as it did every year for the last 10 (or more) years.

A 2012 vintage table wine is likely to be noticeably different to a 2011 vintage table wine from the same winemaker on the same label. This is in part due to the weather conditions, as well as the makeup of the blend and other "winemaking" techniques (oak, etc.).

I had a bottle of this (probably from the same mixed case). I think it was nice, I can't really remember, lol (this is probably a good sign).

Chenin Blanc isn't widely grown in Australia, but is grown extensively abroad (Europe, South Africa, and I think in America).

It's definitely a disadvantage (for my wallet). Making two separate $125 purchases over two weeks (which is what i did - damn FOMO) somehow seems to trick the mind into believing it's cheaper than a full dozen for $250. Yes, I understand it's irrational.
