Vinomofo Wine Deals

That marketing is crazy tempting!

You're right. I find it is best to completely ignore it and concentrate on concensus views, whether that's here or by wine writers.
One exception is that if you identify the style and flavour profile that you like (and more importantly, dislike), you can match that up with the descriptors in the blurb. Ignore whether they say claim it is good, because they're not going to claim it isn't. As you get more exposure to the wines themselves, you can identify a wine that you've had before and would buy again.

One more thing...
There is no such thing as an objective view in wine. Everyone likes something different, but of course there's a lot of overlap. Just be aware of what you like when buying in bulk!

Does anybody have any idea what this might be?

Black Market Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 – marked as $50 down to $16?

https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/black-market-deal-cabernet-sauvignon-2011

It's listed as from NSW. I've searched the various WineCompanion listings looking for a match, but none of the 94 point 2011 cab savs from NSW seem to match of any of the listed criteria. Any ideas?

Thanks,
DB

Robert Stein Vineyard Reserve Mudgee Cabernet Sauvignon seems to match up ok; 94pts, 5 red star producer and 14% abv.

ETA: I see that AnonymousCoward and redbigot got there first!

Nothing in Wine Companion matches $50 and 94 points from Hunter Valley

Browsing around the other NSW regions, there's one from Mudgee that seems to match: Robert Stein Vineyard Reserve Mudgee Cabernet Sauvignon, except VM says "40 year old vines" and WC says "85 year old vines".

I suspect WC meant 35yo vines in 2011, Steins first plantings were Shiraz in 1976.
The wine scored 88pts on The Wine Front.

Clearly! Already have a six pack of the swing on the way, but couldn't resist adding another to make it a round dozen, free shipping tipped me over the edge!

Resistance is futile. :)

I've been checking in on these forums the past month or so and just made my first purchase on Vinomofo, Hannah's Swing of course. I couldn't resist with all the positive comments on this wine.

I have a feeling that reading this forum is going to make it hard to resist buying a lot more wine :)

By memory it's Innocent Bystander Mule (may want to check, not sure if it was ever confirmed?)

Confirmed, and may need some quiet time for itself to reflect and grow, I am not an experienced wine reviewer so my descriptions come directly from uninformed senses☺ First aroma ok, but detected a scent I refer to as cheap Aust. Lambrusco, but that could be it is still immature. Apart from that slight whiff, it is still a nice red with character.
Steady, i said i'd let you know re the Gunda...well in Dame Edna's words..Spooky! I thought OMG, it's a shiraz knock off of my favourite Tassie Pinot from Blustery Banks at Spreighton. Only one better in Tas, but slightly pricier, over on the East Coast at Cranbook. Yes i do love the Gunda shiraz, glad i got it. But can you tell me what the slight bitterness in the aftertaste is? Is that what everyone refers to as pepper?

Yes, I've just order another dozen. Its just too good to pass up. I've given up waiting for them to re-list the Brothers and Sisters...

It's the 3 Oceans Explorer cab sauv:
Thanks ac, yes i do remember some comments way back, but also got one in a mixed cab sav box, from memory quite nice, but obviuosly not memorable for me so will keep waiting for some fresh blood on the scene. Btw also just jumped on the Swing band wagon. Like the lower alcohol it claims. Getting a little tired of the power affect rather than just power taste, bring on more 13 percenters!

Drank a bottle of the Hannahs last night; I reckon this is one of my favourite shiraz. Just so deliciously easy to drink.
