Vinomofo Wine Deals

Hi RRV. We almost always meet at Martin Place, for it's central location. On Friday, we ended up at Ambar Bar and Cafe [the place on the right at the top of the steps to the MLC Centre food court that overlooks Martin Place]:

AMBAR

And it turned out to be BYO.

I reckon we'll make it a regular spot for our monthly / bi-monthly meet ups now we know it's BYO. I've put it out there before. Others are welcome to join us. We mostly talk wine, the Wine Lovers thread and life. We often share wine swaps too, splitting 12 and 6 packs or just swapping and gifting wines we know the others will like. I'll post up details of our next get together on the Wine Lovers Meet Up thread I started last year.

Thanks for the kind invite, I would love to attend these type of events but I am based in Brisneyland. On another note I rather enjoyed the CW Ferguson too, probably a little more than you did

I sill haven't opened mine yet, however words cannot describe how disappointed and cheated I felt when the delivery arrived. Being new here I didn't see previous postings on the matter but I am fully prepared for this to be a quaffer, dinner party 4th bottle of the night type wine. Time will tell.

Life is too short to feel disappointed and cheated - when you do try it, if you don't like it use the Fo's excellent return garuntee - you have 12 months from purchasing

You never know you may enjoy it - yes if your tastes are like AC, no if like Beefarmer. Definitely polarising:)

I didn't have the cabernet but did get the matching shiraz which I found quite nice drinking with reasonable structure and some good tannins. I'll try to leave half of the dozen for another 18 months and it'll be much better then.

Sandalford! Have you been to the winery? They charge for a tasting glass, Even their toilets are amazing luxury, so I'm thinking, nice vino or not, prices have got to be inflated. Damn shame, but hey life is about drinking nice wine etc...

There is a 2014 Coriole Chenin Blanc in the wine club case, I've never tried chenin Blanc before.
What's it like?

I've drunk many a Coriole Chenin Blanc, although not any of the recent vintages (my contact at the winery has now retired). It is a good reliable wine. It is similar in style to a pino gris but perhaps more acidic. It isn't anything amazing in terms of complexity but you can't go wrong with it.

Keith Tullock "The Kester" maybe. 95 Halliday pts, check. 85 year old vines, check. 5 red star Halliday winery, check. Open fermented, check. But cellar door price for the 2013 is $70. ???

Ditto I've always been very happy to buy this anyway, but at VM discount - like a flash. I'd say it drinks more like semillon rather than pinot gris (or grigio :)). Think very dry, tart, crisp & refreshing. Don't expect any floral, rose or gooseberry notes ... By the way, if they do the Tahbilk Marsanne again, jump in if you like this crisp, lean style. Though this will age gloriously in the vein of Riesling.

Pretty certain I tried this Robert Stein Shiraz at one of the recent Sydney outdoor cellar door events. Not sure it blew me away at the time but then that was probably the fact it was $50. Its a very reliable winery and their reserve stuff is usually very good. I reckon you could do a lot worse at this price. If it were on as a six pack Id probably take the plunge.
