A great time would be had comparing a Fo favourite and one I had last month, the Maverick Twins GSM 2013 and this Hewitson 2013. Anyone had both and would like to compare?

I know Steady loved the Twins Cabernet blend and wrote about it recently, but the GSM is a different baby altogether. Both '13' Twins are very very, good wines.

I agree with your comments on the Maverick Twins as I picked up a case last month as well and most of it is gone already. The Hewitson is arriving at my place this week so will be very interesting to compare the tow side by side.

... to crack the boxes of Hannahs Swing and the Brothers and Sisters to taste As you know my tasting notes are basic, but Hannahs Swing without the hour or so of breathing, lovely berry aroma and soft dryness on the tongue, let you know later how it pans out, but looks promising for an easy drinking shiraz, oh and yes a little on the sweet side, but i like that.
Bro and Sis, wow!my fave aroma, Black currant full on. But on tasting not so much on first sips, quite dry on the palate, again needs to breathe for me.
Hmmm, liking the Hannahs Swing better, Bros & Sis a little tannic for me, but hey, some perfumes smell like pea beau or aeroguard to me too

If you are in Perth I'll take the rest of your Bros & Sis off your hands. :)

A winery I visited in Margaret River prided themselves on their 'kerosene' notes. W.T.F!?
And yes, the wine smelled exactly like kero. And tasted like dirty petrol. But the inlaws loved it. Crazy!

And know what you mean, bought an aged reisling from Clare Valley, definitely brewed at the bowser...

P.s. when visiting my sister in Perth, went to a little french winery just down the road from Sandlefords (Red River..Little River?) Best food and white wines in the region.

Ok, hold the phone...seems Fg Brothers and Sisters is one of those wines that likes to surprise you...had another glass after nice steak and fresh veges, now i'm tasting jammy, syrupy richness...complex wine? or wine with a complex?!

Glider, you didn't formally mention what varietal had the kerosene odour but most of us would have gone for a cooler climate Riesling.

This same character in a wine had me very perturbed when I bought two cases of a certain Riesling from Dru Reschke in the bottom of Coonawarra as he calls it. Dru backed up his guaranteed refund claim that if I didn't like his style of winemaking, and that's how it eventuated., I could get my money back from him.

A few long longg weeks went by tooing and froing, the silent treatment, but showing a lot of compassion, I got every cent back AND got to keep all the balance from 2 cases.

This wine of Dru's spelt like sucking out petrol from a car tank, the nose and flavour was that powerful. What do you want for nothing?

As the years have gone buy, the remainders have gotton better.

Maybe We could have a drink together if I went on one of those AAPT European River cruised that Dru is going shortly. If it's junket or a tax deduction, who really cares? He honoured his word.

Glenlofty Shiraz Viognier is back up, I enjoyed another bottle of this the other night, might jump on another case using a credit for a fantastic quaffer.

Is that the 2013 you were drinking? Is it as awesome as the 2011 or 2012?

Yes the 2013.
I can't speak for the earlier vintages, as I didn't try these.

Some reports from longer term mof_ enthusiasts were that it wasn't as good, but I very much enjoyed it

anybody know what the Great Southern shiraz $60 down to $19is?

It's a one-off wine made by Devil's Lair (or at least their winemakers), so pushing it a little to use the DL 5 red stars and "winery price" of $60.
Luke Skeer is chief winemaker at DL (ex Wynns Coonawarra), DL is still part of the big TWE range I think.
Our Team - Devil's Lair

Extra info is that it's called A to B or A2B or something similar.

I can't find any more info on it, hoping someone else can.
