Vinomofo Wine Deals

Facebook flash sale on.

2013 Hewitson miss Harry gsm?? good?
I have the 2010 and it was a tidy drop.

There is nothing new, just repeats at the same old prices, free freight is the only bonus and that's a pretty regular offer anyway.

Not worth hanging around for the drip-feed.

I'm pretty sure this is the Fox Gordon King Louis Cab Sav. Has anybody tasted this? Given how good the B&S is I'm included to give it a go.

Campbell Mattinson did on TWF in April this year. I'm not on the list but there may be some helpful folk out there that could summarise.

Remember this is the Vinomofo thread.

Can a moderator please elucidate what is on/off topic here please?

Pointing out that a "VM Deal" isn't really that great a deal because the same wine can be had cheaper elsewhere isn't OT (in my opinion). At the very least, the post should be moved to the DM and Other Deals thread if the post is pointing out a good deal/coupon/discount elsewhere.

Someone mentioned a few postings ago which AFFer was in the mix for a positive recommendation on the Fox Gordon Brothers and Sisters. All I can say is that I remember making the call to the Barossa and inquiring before I bought. The rest is history.

I have just made another interstate call late in the day in reference to your question. After a bit of interrogation, I am in no doubt that my credit card will be punished after I hit the 'post quick reply' button. I made reference to the fact that the Brothers and Sisters Cabernet is stunning, and there is an admission/agreement that it punches well above it's weight. However, the king Louis is their flagship and is treated differently. More oak, more refinement, a wine that is meant to last 15-20 at least. It does not have that Coonawarra aggressive early tannins, but like the winery is famous for, has the fruit as the dominant. I sound like a salesman for the winery. I certainly am not, I just try to do a little homework early. This Louis is a '14. So is the Brothers and Sisters. I think enough has been said.,

edit - Tom Hanks with his bow and arrow....! one hundred and eighteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Thanks for researching beefarmer, I wasn't able to find much about 2014 on t'web. The obvious conclusion being that Louis is the big brother to the brothers and sisters. Sometimes this is not always the case. The quality of the B&S makes it very hard to resist, and your post made it impossible.

I was digging to find the answer to that question. You know when you have a wine, then the reserve, then the flagship. And an incremental increase in price. Basically, I liked what I heard.....again. The sweetness of the Bros and Sis is probably tamed and your palate has to get used to this. As I type, I am having a glass of the yarra valley top padock pinot 2015 from bocaccios in kew. this is probably my fifth bottle in the lst two months. It is stunning. it is ten bucks a bottle.

Last week I bought the west Australian Byron and Harold wheelabout pinot 2014 from winemarket. Having had their rose and thorns pinot 2014 and absolutely loved it, I took a stab with this one.i couldn't find a retailer in Melbourne for the rose and thorns so had a punt. Luckily, I have flogged off 5 bottles of the case with work friends. It is mediocre just in case you were wondering. That's why someone mentioned it was being flogged everywhere. As I take another sip of the yarra valley pinot which doubles as hoddles creek 2015, I am in doubt that it could be valued at thirty five bucks. it is beautiful...all 5 have been. how good is that !

Some you win, some you lose I guess. the Wheelabout is cough unfortunately, but I will leave it for 3 years and see what happens.

I have a case of the 2010 and the 2012 King Louis Cabernet, both impressed from memory.

Noticed a couple of Marchand and Burch village level red Burgandies on offer in the VIM after dark sale. Pretty sharp pricing, but not sure I'm convinced, especially with the 2011 Vosne Romanee. Umming and uhhing about the 2012 Gevrey Chambertin though

I was thinking just the same thing.

The "not sure I'm convinced" resonated with me.;)

No.
It may be made at Hoddles Creek, but it's not the same as the labelled PN.
I think I would back RB on this even though it was mentioned to me in vivo. However, that does not detract from the blinder of a pinot that the Top Paddock is. To put it to the ultimate test, I need to buy a labelled Hoddles, which can be had for somewhere between $18-$22 I believe. More plonk !

A previous Top Paddock Pinot (2013) was from Gippsland (possibly Wickhams Rd), the 2015 (obviously) from Yarra and maybe from Hoddles Ck vineyard. If it is made from the barrels that didn't quite make the cut for the labelled version there may indeed be not much difference.

Right, I have just ordered a case of it. I'll do a blind test myself to see if I can tell the difference.
