Vinomofo Wine Deals

https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/mof_-secret-deal-pinot-noir-2013

I'm not even going to start to guess what this is, my NZ pinot knowledge is about as broad as my knowledge about astrophysics. But I feel like I may need to learn about string theory, over a glass of pinot...and in a 6 pack is more tempting.

Does anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: Doing some digging on Google...perhaps one of the Villa Maria Pinots? Maybe the Private Bin? Numbers look close, and fits the 'drinking it London' write up for exporting.

I was trying to figure this one out also. I have no idea sorry :(

VM has been quite underwhelming dating back to around January. Both in terms of the quality of what's on offer and also the pricing. Seems like a 50% discount is much more standard now than the previous 70%. I'm not really bagging the discount as much as simply stating I'm far less likely to pull the trigger at mediocre quality swill at higher than before prices.

Langtons Fine Wines publish a little black book every year that you can get for $10 from Dans, they give Barossa Valley shiraz in 2013 a 9 out 10 (as they did 2012). Doesn't sound encouraging for your wallet!

I don't know how much extra is in the book, but for proper cheapskates, they actually have a basic table of scores on their site too: https://www.langtons.com.au/media/pdf/VintageChart.pdf

The Wine Companion website has one too - maybe only available to subscribers though, from memory.

Did anyone end up grabbing the Capel Vale Cab Sauv 2014 when it was on offer in March/April? Any good? How does it compare to the 2013 which was cough?

Re: https://vinomofo.com/wines/mixed-case/95-point-lineup

I would venture the McLaren Vale GSM is likely the Ulithorne Dona GSM 2014 while the Yarra Valley Shiraz could be the De Bortoli Yarra Valley Estate Grown Shiraz 2012. Any opinions on this and what the others might be?

Interesting reading. The thing that holds for me and hopefully keeps the Fo going is the owners genuine desire not to sell absolute cough (which a lot of the other discounters do) wine. They may not be having as many premium ones but for the everyday drinker the service is great.

Totally agree with you there, so nice to feel confident you won't receive any duds (except on a taste preference), the monimum quality is there for the price range.

In other news, I opened a bottle of the Hannah's Swing the other night, had a sip then on advice from AFF let it decant for a couple of hours.
I definitely noticed a marked difference between the freshly opened bottle and the decanted one, but both were good to me. I enjoy sweeter wines, and I tend to like Barossa shiraz so it definitely had the guts of what I like to drink, though I noticed it seemed to have a prominent acidity in the mid and end palette for me which was the biggest mark against it.

In all, I won't be sending mine back. I don't think it's my best mof_ purchase but it's certainly not the worst. I like it better than the Hewitson Mother Vine that was about the same price point and also well regarded earlier in this thread. I'll happily forget about it in the back of the cellar for a nice surprise in a few years.
The FG Brothers and Sisters Cab Sav I had the following night however, blew it out of the water for value and edged ahead for taste too.

Catching up on thread after a family trip. You people are going to turn me into a lush! All these descriptions...just had to crack the boxes of Hannahs Swing and the Brothers and Sisters to taste As you know my tasting notes are basic, but Hannahs Swing without the hour or so of breathing, lovely berry aroma and soft dryness on the tongue, let you know later how it pans out, but looks promising for an easy drinking shiraz, oh and yes a little on the sweet side, but i like that.
Bro and Sis, wow!my fave aroma, Black currant full on. But on tasting not so much on first sips, quite dry on the palate, again needs to breathe for me.
Katy, if you are out there, did you get to try the Thistledown shiraz? If so, did you like?

I have both and I am a fan. I think the 2013 is slightly more enjoyable but not significantly. If you liked the 2013 then I think you will enjoy the 2014.

The Secret deal GSM Barossa 2013 is Hewitson Miss Harry, not too bad value at $13.90
A great time would be had comparing a Fo favourite and one I had last month, the Maverick Twins GSM 2013 and this Hewitson 2013. Anyone had both and would like to compare?

I know Steady loved the Twins Cabernet blend and wrote about it recently, but the GSM is a different baby altogether. Both '13' Twins are very very, good wines.
