Vinomofo Wine Deals

Hi Miss Bick

Thanks for the advice & your dedication in the quest for research findings has to be admired!

I'm still working through a case of the Maverick Twins which has an alcohol level of 15% - i think its 2013? No label, so i cant confirm. Anyway i'm not put off by the heavy alcohol content.

Ok, big mistake following the twins with a shiraz, anyway..focus...penna lane ..caramel on the nose, fruit forward, following meaty chocolate. Not the same league as the twins, but not a cheap green or bitter number either, yep i'd put it in the reasonable quaffer range, worth the money. Had worse for more money from other wine brokers, and...may improve in subtleness over 6 to 12 months.

P.s group hug, you'll note i don't follow form with the expert tasting notes, i just know what i like and try to convey what i sense. Caveat vino assaggiare.

Oh and p.p.s, many years ago on the way back up to Darwin from Vic, we stopped in at Seppelt's cellar where I asked about the scent of caramel on wines and was advised that it was an indication of vintage, i.e. aged wine.

Bugger! I hope i haven't ruined your nights drinking experience! Anyway, thank you so much for the notes and for indulging in a Penna Lane. Sounds like it could well be worth sampling.

for whats its worth i had a bottle of the Penna Lane Shiraz a few nights ago, it was my second bottle of the night so i was past the point of coherent tasting notes but i remember it being a full body pleasure, specifics elude me but i made a note to make sure i picked up a case the next time it was on offer.

Drunk Mavis has never lied to me before so i've picked up a case as well.

Love it! How i could i pass up Drunk Mavis' recommendations - I'm booming for sure!

The contraband shiraz "dripping in trophies"

https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/mof_-contraband-deal-shiraz-2013-a04d3f4f

is the Jack Estate 2013 Shiraz.

It has to be doesn't it !!

However, can it be that good, or are some of these golds from commercial entries?

Ask yourself the question - how can so many judges, from so many competitions from so many countries be wrong ?

Ahhh, Don't Think outside The Circle though.

But with the guarantee, you simply cannot loose.

Lifted fruity and floral bouquet with cherry and raspberry red fruits. Love the palate feel and length. Fine tannins. This is a really smart wine. With the food the wine becomes a little raspberry sweet but it doesn’t detract from the core of what this wine is.

Ken Dobler
An outstanding bright crimson colour. Attractive plummy aromas on the nose. The palate has enough fruit weight to carry the tannic backbone. The refined primary fruit and exceptional length looked really attractive with food.

Stuart Halliday
Full bodied and structured. Chewy on the palate. Can’t really see the Viognier there in the wine. It didn’t bring anything obvious to it so maybe that’s a good thing. The food brought the lovely white pepper and spice out in the wine and gave it good length.

Bryan Currie
Light red colour. Lifted florals and bruised raspberry nose. Toasty vanillin oak on the palate. The oak dominated the palate and the food.

Sue Bastian
A mid ruby colour with a bright purple rim. Plum jam with some floral notes on the nose. Sweet berries fruits on the palate. Quite jube like and luscious but then some dusty and drying tannins. The sweet fruits in the wine dominated this gorgeous meal.

Neil Hadley
This wine is fairly perfumed on the nose with a youthful plummy fruit character and attractive brightness. It has a full ripe palate with a silken softness to the underlying tannins but a slight sweetness on its finish.

Mark Robertson
The aroma is mocha lolly and almost confected. It has a cloying varietal Viognier finish on the palate. It’s almost overdone. The palate is redeemed with a great tannin presence. It’s grainy lengthy tarry and svelte but with food it’s simple and the acid was too dominant as it turned out.

to confuse me and everyone else, I just noticed that the Fo quote the 2015 Sydney blue/gold.....whereas the above info seems to be from 2014.
if that's the case, another year of breathing sounds just what it needed, reading between the lines. nevertheless, I do like the food matching Sydney show as a rough guide.

I just had a 2008 Smith and Hooper wrattonbully cab blend last week, one of ample I have and it was drinking beautifully. Similar area, feels good, BOOM.

i had this last Friday night, the 2010 Prancing Horse Chardonnay, lots of struck match sulfur that comes from screw cap wine when the sulfur doseage has been to high. quite underwhelmed by the chardonnay, the first sub standard wine i have bought from Vinomofo(a nd i have bought a lot!)

Is ok, only way to ruin a drinking experience is to follow good wine with really, really bad wine. As yet haven't had any bad ones from vinomofo

Wine Companion makes it difficult to search by Region of the Wine (Barossa) vs the location (Region) of the Producer (Hewitson, Adelaide Region).
Poor data analysis and search design...

What you describe can be done via putting the region (Barossa) in the Search term. But in the case, if the region is 'Adelaide Hills', then it's a slightly different issue - either VM or Wine Companion has miscategorised the wine.
